don't spend themoney on a QB?

I see people interested in Bledsoe. He costs us about 5 mil next year. That's a third of our available cap space for a guy who has been hurt this year.

If it were me, I'd go a completely other direction. I'd offer Dilfer a 1.5 to 2.0 million deal early in FA for this year. Then I'd try to spend the remainder on Joe Johnson. For the same amount of money, I think our team would be much better with this option. At that point, I'd like to get Lang back, but I wouldn't cry if we couldn't. Getting Johnson would give us alot more leverage in the Lang negotiations.

As for a QB, Dilfer isn't great, so I'm okay with drafting a future starter. However, if we have Dilfer, I don't think we HAVE to draft a QB in the first two rounds unless one of the top prospects should fall to us. In fact, I think it would let us go for the best available athlete route. If we could get another DL, we could opt not to resign LAng, though hopefully he will be signed before draft time. Personally, I like the idea of using a transition tag on Lang. I'm totally not sure what the market for an undersized DT who plays with great hutzpah (sp?).

Bledsoe's a guy -- if you all acquired him -- would both scare and please me, as a Cowboys fan.

He's still a top talent in this league, and one of your gaping holes is clearly a QB. A Bledsoe type talent with some of your other personnel could be deadly. Of course, as mentioned before, there is the concern of whether or not he actually fits your team's scheme...

But, I'd also love to see you all trade away picks for a 30 year old QB with injury concerns, and pay a hefty price for his salary. Of course, if he's released for some reason -- as has been speculated at various times -- then the part about the draft picks is no longer valid.

Dilfer seems to be the opposite of Banks -- doesn't really scare you with athletic ability by and large (although he was a high pick years ago), but has the head for the game and limits mistakes. He doesn't strike me as a franchise QB in this league though, clearly.

I wonder how Rohan Davey's performance yesterday will catapult him up draft charts. Wasn't he a low 2nd round to high 3rd round prospect previously?

I don't think you will see Bledsoe here. If we are going to get an established starter and pay him good money I think it will be someone that has had a healthier medical chart.

Bledsoe is a lot older than 30 physically, just as Bernie Kosar was in Cleveland after taking all those hits. The Pats had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL over the past 4 years and Drew took some very nasty shots.

I too think the Redskins will opt for a 'gritty' quarterback like Dilfer who is coachable but competitive.

Or you will see Marty go back to something familiar if Grbac is released by Baltimore.

Marty's moves so far have shown him to be on the conservative side.

Trading for Bledsoe seems to be the move of a riverboat gambler like Jerry Jones or Al Davis. smile.gif

I'm not too keen on trading for Bledsoe unless the Pats cut us a great deal. The one good thing is that he'd come to us free of accountable bonus money, which would give us the ability to lower his cap figure in a given year by guaranteeing his salary. While his base salary figures are high, they only increase from $5 million to $7.5 million for the next five seasons to 2007...

2002 $5M

2003 $5.5M

2004 $6M

2005 $6M

2006 $6.5

2007 $7.5M

2008 $12M

2009 $13M

2010 $14M

What about Sage? I don't see any reason to waste a first or second rounder on a Carr or Harrington if we have Sage waiting in the wings. We could sign a Dilfer or Miller, and possibly send Sage over to NFLE. He'll be ready to go by the time he's needed.
