Stone Cold
just curious what some of you may think about this... is it important that we sign a coach sooner or later? do we play the waiting game for the colleges and other nfl teams to finish? do we go through a lenghthy, drawnout, albeit thorough interview process? or, do we sign a guy quick and get as much of a leg up on next season as possible...thoughts? Burgold
It is important to sign the coach well enough in advance to be able to review tapes of the team last season before the free agency begins so he can make an informed decision as to both who to keep and what we need. Are you suggesting that the new HC should have a say in personnel decisions?
Burgold
yup. Not necessarily make them, but absolutely have a say. I think that GM and Coach should not be the same guy, but that one has to understand the type of player that works in that coach's ideal scheme. To be honest, I think Snyder/Cerrato did this both with Norv and with Spurrier. They asked them what do you need. Spurrier wanted speed. Done. Norv needed a defensive overhaul. That was the 2000 spending spree. Most of us have lauded the potential of this team during each preseason... maybe that's just the fan in us, but it could be also that the moves made sense for the most part. Mind you, to be fair, this draft seemed a huge head scratcher at the time. With Dockery being the most confusing after they signed 12 guards in the offseason and Gibran being equally confusing considering his liklihood of being drafted by another team when there were punters and others of more practical use still on the board.
