Ignatius J.
Today, during player introductions, FOX highlighted smoot as the key player in the secondaey. They almost always show champ's picture and highlight his name, but I think word is finnally starting to spread on our younger CB, who continued an excellent streak of games today. -DB
Phat Hog
Did you also notice that they did not throw to Smoot’s side nearly as much as they did to Champ’s side.
Ignatius J.
That has been happening all year. It's just that FOX finnally noticed. -DB
NavyDave
I love smoot and have to believe champ is still hurting but he might as well forget about the 18 to 20 million dollar signing bonus
Skeletor The Invincible
Phat Hog, you should have said, "They NEVER threw at Smoot." But. I think we've all seen Smoot give up his fair share of big plays this year.
Ignatius J.
They did throw at smoot at least once on a slant play for ten yards. -DB
DieselPwr44
Was Smoot's name ever mentioned during the game today??
Cskin
I wouldn't throw to Smoot either if he was covering Jerome Pathon. It's not like Pathon is the second coming of John Taylor. They didn't throw to him because he can't get open. And... why throw to Pathon when your #1 receiver is wide open all day.

OaktonSkins/BushFan
I'm waiting for all of the Bailey apologists and Smoot detractors out there to step forward and defend their position. I know that there are a few of us here that have been right all season long about Bailey's regression and Smoot's superior play.
Cskin
I'm not sure I even need SUPERIOR play from Champ... I just want an occasional INT or deflected pass or caused fumble. And... the next time I see his head shaking back and forth and clapping his hands in obvious disgust or disbelief will be the 100th time. Heck, I could see that w/ a rookie CB in there. RF4L
That's the only year Champ was worth a crap, his rookie year! Had great games against the Plummer and the Cards. What happened to him?
OrangeSkin
Getting a couple first rounders from a team based on Champ's overblown reputation is sounding pretty good right now. We just have to hope that the "experts" don't start to notice Champ's poor play and in turn cause his stock to drop.
Ignatius J.
They've already noticed it. See this thread.... Also, the announcers mentioned how Horn told them that the key to beating champ was to test him. The cats out of the bag. The only remaining question is: can we get a seventh rounder for him? -DB
DieselPwr44
Would there be any difference in playing Jimoh in Champs spot? They both give up the same plays. Were they seperated at birth??!!
Ignatius J.
yes, there would be considerable difference...... it would not even be close. -DB
DieselPwr44
Originally posted by DrunkenBoxer yes, there would be considerable difference...... it would not even be close. -DB How so? I'm sure Jimoh could get beat deep 2-3 times per game and could give us Champ's normal 1-2 pass interference penalties per game. To me the only difference is,Jimoh gives up the td,Champ just sets the opponents up for an easy td. ....(ok,ok,I'm frustrated with Champ's play but who isn't??) panel
Champ was covering Joe horn, and he only had 10 yards receiving, besides the Pass interfearance, I have no complaints.
Ignatius J.
I know you're just joking, but: if we left jomoh on an island with horn all day, lets just say that we would CRUSH the saints in time of posession. -DB

Smoot is good, but he isn't covering #1 guys like Champ is, and he certianly isn't helping on the run like champ, but he does tip those balls. DieselPwr44
Ok, all joking aside, say you are Dan Snyder owner/ GM. Based on what you've seen, what kind of contract would Bailey be worth?
Ignatius J.
exactly the one we offered. If he would take it, I think you have him sign it, and don't look back. -DB

Wouldn't you try to negotiate something a little cheaper?
Ignatius J.
No. we will not get him for cheaper. I am a firm believer that the dumbest thing you can do is overpay for someone who had a contract year. This situation is exaclty the same. You pay for what you have seen over a career. The guy is a redskin, and if we can make him a lifelong skin, I think we will see him rebound. He has played well until this season, and he has been injured. -DB
