It would cost a crap ton to bring the island into anything resembling an American standard of living, specially in the rural parts of the island. ~ About half the islandars want statehood so that the US can fix the island. The other half want independence. That other half is GROSSLY misguided. ~ I don't care which way we go, but I think the status quo is a sad middle ground.
