Ax
Last night on sports with Sonny and George, Sonny talked about how in 1972 George Allen used a 5 down lineman formation to stop the run in a game against the Packers, with great success. Sad it was confusing to the Oline since they hadn't seen it before. I doubt anybody's seen it recently. (unless you know someone who has) Don't know if I'd play a whole game like that, but it might be worth a try on occasion. You could alternate between LB's and S's so you'd either be in a 5-3-3 or a 5-2-4. We definately have the CB's to make it work. Might be a good offspeed pitch. Whattayathink? HapHaszard
Dunno, but it sure sounds interesting. Confusion to the cats.
Chrisbob74
Can't see us using this formation!
marhobo2
I think George likes the flavor vanilla.
Symbol
Can't see it happening in this day in age, where Oline men that aren't wearing burgandy and gold are trained to pick up a blitz.
NavyDave
Actually this formation was seen in the superbowl. The mad defensive guru Bill Belicheck used 5 d linemen when facing the rams and caused several turnovers on the former Rams RT and fatbody we signed last year. Phat Hog
Our starting 4 + Arrington Or at least make sure we don't line the LBs up as far back as we usually do
inmate running the asylum
I remember when George Allen used the 5 DL against the Packers. The Packers had RB John Brockington who was a load and who carried them into the playoffs that year. I don't remember who their QB was, but I think they had a poor passing attack and that is why the 5 DL scheme worked. As I recall we won 16-3 or something like that. George Allen was very creative, something the Redskin coaches lack.
