TK
http://www.redskins.com/story.asp?ContentID=12254 Morton Practices, Could Play vs. Carolina 11/13/2003 By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com Head coach Steve Spurrier said Thursday that running back/kick returner Chad Morton “has a good chance” to play in Sunday’s game against Carolina. Morton practiced with the team on Thursday for the first time since suffering an ankle sprain in the Week 9 game against Dallas. He is listed as questionable for the game. "Chad was running around pretty well," Spurrier said. Fullback Bryan Johnson, who is listed as probable, also practiced on Thursday and is expected to be able to play on Sunday, Spurrier said. Johnson, who suffered a mild concussion in last week’s game against Seattle, may be fitted with a special helmet to help him avoid concussions in the future. “We’re trying to find a new helmet for him, one that has a type of bubble on the top,” Spurrier said. “Kevin Mitchell has one, so we’re trying to get Bryan one.” Cornerback Matt Bowen, who also had a concussion in last Sunday’s game, participated in practice and is expected to be able to play on Sunday. He is listed as probable. Complete Injury Report. Brrr… Spurrier labeled Thursday’s practice as “one of the top three coldest practices I’ve ever experienced.” Strong wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour cut short practice by about 30 minutes. “We got through most of it, though,” Spurrier said. “We cut out our special team kicking. We got most all of our plays in. Of course, we couldn’t throw it all in the wind. But we were able to get some things accomplished.” Players practiced without pads and were limited in contact drills, Spurrier added. Extra Points Spurrier has not named a starter at the tailback position for Sunday’s game. He has indicated that Rock Cartwright could get increased playing time at the tailback, but Cartwright has been getting the bulk of practice time at fullback due to Johnson’s injury. Said Spurrier: “Rock is capable of playing a lot at tailback whether he starts or not.” Cornerback Fred Smoot, running back Ladell Betts, center Larry Moore and safety Andre Lott did not practice Thursday. Cornerback Rashad Bauman and defensive tackle Jermaine Haley participated in some light drills, but did not practice fully. Spurrier said backup quarterback Tim Hasselbeck is “pretty close” to having a full grasp of the offense.
WallyG3
I think Johnson being healthy is more important than Chad "fastest speed bump in town" Morton. He has heart and all, but putting him out to block a blitzing LB just looks silly. P. Johnson has been doing pretty well on returns anyway. Impressive how fast Hasselbeck has reportedly picked up the offense. Makes you wonder what the Ham-meister has between the ears.
