NFL: Washington 27, Seattle 20

LANDOVER, Md., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins used a gutsy call on 4th-and-inches and a trick play Sunday to overcome the Seattle Seahawks, 27-20.

With the victory, the Redskins snapped a four-game losing streak.

Second-year coach Steve Spurrier survived a huge gamble on Washington's winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

With the game tied at 20-20, Washington (4-5) faced 4th-and-inches on its own 25-yard-line with 6:19 left. Rock Cartwright was able to eke out a two-yard gain for a first down.

Later, the Redskins were facing 3rd-and-5 on the 10-yard-line when Ramsey threw behind him to his left to Gardner, who earlier caught a touchdown pass. With Seattle's defense all on the left side, Gardner easily hit a wide-open Trung Canidate in the right side of end zone for his first career touchdown pass.

Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot made an interception with 39 seconds left to seal the win.

Seattle fall to 6-3.

let's face it, that fourth down call from a football 101 perspective was as stupid and reckless as you can get

but from a field on perspective it WAS the play that turned the outcome of the game. it took the momentum away from the Seahawks who were expecting to get the ball back in great field position.

but if it had NOT worked, geez Spurrier would have been flailed in public by everyone all week from the Fox guys to the ESPN guys to our own media in Washington.

hey, famous generals in history were often successful by doing that which others thought was reckless or against the established laws of war.

the trick is you have to win these gambits :D

today, we finally did.
