Ax
For what it's worth, this is how coach Spurrier looks compared to some other first time head coaches after their first 23 regular season games. John Madden 17-3-3 Don Shula 16-7 Vince Lombardi 14-9 Joe Gibbs 14-9 Steve Spurrier 10-13 Bill Parcells 7-15-1 Dick Vermeil 7-16 Chuck Knoll 5-18 Bill Walsh 5-18 Tom Landry 4-17-2 Jimmy Johnson 4-19 All this really means is that some people are way too impatient these days. Chill. With the exception of Madden, all of these other coaches had multiple Super Bowl appearances during their careers. So will SOS. Symbol
Can't chill until Spurrier learns how to coach in the NFL.

bubba9497
I posted something last week simular showing the record of many hall of fame coaches who took over bad teams, showing a trend that most didn't start winning until their third or fourth season. Madden took over a winning team in Oakland that had been in the Superbowl the year before. Shula took over a winning team in Baltimore from Web Ewbanks, and Gibbs took over a a fairy good Redskin team from Parde. Lombardi was the most impressive. He took over a one win team and took them to two winning seasons (barley over .500), and the championship his third. Tom Laundry took 7 years to build the cowboys into a winning team. Ax
Sorry I missed your post bubba. Sounds more in depth than mine. Good job.
Canadian Hog
you know, for a guy who has never coached in the NFL, inherited a team last year with mediocre talent, and had to go with a inexperienced qb, I think a 10-13 record ain't that bad. Sure, we would like to see better, but at least Spurrier hasn't been a total embarrassment. Next year, is the year in which to grade the ball coach fairly.
