Packers also interested in Lional Dalton

I think we had better grab Dalton for a 5th round pick. This is about the best we can do before the season starts. :)

Packers Eyeing Dalton; Wilkinson Update -- from FFMastermind.com

The Press-Gazette reports the Packers are one of four or five teams that have talked to Denver about trading for DT Lional Dalton, though their interest appears to be lukewarm. The Packers still were negotiating with the agent for DT Dan Wilkinson on Thursday, though sources said Detroit increased its offer and is the front-runner to land him.

Wilkinson is not coming back here.

Larry Smith isn't worth a contract based on his conditioning and readiness to play.

Dalton may be the best player we get a chance to grab while we still have time to have him come in and learn the defense before the opener.

If we wait too long we might end up with NO players or with a player that comes in too late to start right away.

I think the outcome of tonight's game will be the "tipping" point. If Haley/Noble and the 3rd pivot man like Cannida or B. Jackson play well.... then we're going to pass. If we get slashed for big gains by Antoine Smith/Kevin Faulk, who are far less than capable backs, then we're on the phone before the game ends.

That would effectively end our 2nd day drafting in terms of potential "diamonds in the rough". Our 4th and 5th rounder would be gone in 2004. Of course, some savy trading down on day 1 could recoup both of those picks....but certainly not something to rely on.

after all the 8-8 and 7-9 softpedalling this team has done over the past 3 or 4 years, we can no longer wait on 'diamonds in the rough' 2 or 3 years from now :)

we have to plug this hole one way or another and prepare to contend for the playoffs in 2003.

no, the odds are this team is not going to go 14-2 and win the Super Bowl, but in my mind it HAS to step forward from what we have seen to this point and cash in with a postseason appearance.

that is worth the draft pick or two if need be to close the gaps :D
