Tom [Giants fan]
And I just read that the channel could be on cable TV by it's launch date: The following is from a story on nfl.com: NFL Network to launch on Election Day NEW YORK (July 10, 2003) -- It's official. The National Football League's foray into television begins on Election Day -- Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003. NFL Network will launch at 8 p.m. ET on Nov. 4 with its signature show NFL Total Access, hosted by Rich Eisen. The launch of NFL Network will follow Week 9 of the NFL season when the playoff races are beginning to heat up. As the first 24-hour, year-round television destination for NFL fans, NFL Network will bring together the NFL community in a unique way. With cooperation from the league, players, coaches, the 32 clubs and NFL alumni, NFL Network will be a gathering place for all things related to the NFL and America's most popular sport. The announcement of the launch date was made by NFL Network President and CEO Steve Bornstein. "The launch of a network that celebrates the NFL is a tremendously exciting project," said Bornstein. "Our mission is to deliver programming that honors the NFL's rich tradition and captures the excitement that turns on millions of fans. We will use a lot of innovation to bring our audience the most technologically advanced content possible." With original shows, preseason games and the resources of NFL Films, NFL Network will be a cable and satellite channel serving a broad audience with in-depth, innovative and compelling programming. In addition to the Nov. 4 launch date, NFL Total Access has been selected as the official name of NFL Network's signature show. NFL Total Access will emanate from a studio in Los Angeles and serve as the hub of NFL Network's programming. Fans, players, coaches, owners, officials, teams and the league will look to NFL Total Access each night for latest news, information, and insight from around the league. At launch, NFL Network will be cleared in more than 11,400,000 U.S. homes as part of an agreement with DirecTV's basic service. It is expected that NFL Network will have carriage agreements with cable operators prior to the Nov. 4 launch.
