LOL...I'd say more like 5-5:30 on a Friday before a holiday weekend for max fun. there's a place off of 97 near between baltimore and bowie. I'll see if I can find a link. You can go somewhere up to 30-40 minutes away to ride on bumper cars after work, but going to places like Kings Dominion or the Adventure World is more of a day trip.
