codeorama
Who decide to use the term "shock and awe". Was that an official pentagon thing or a media creation? If anyone knows... thanks.
Art
Media creation. The Joint Chiefs didn't use that term. It came from unnamed sources within the Pentagon and from a book that described what Shock and Awe was, and some at the Pentagon said there would be characteristics of that. I don't think what we employed there was true shock and awe as described in the book about it, but, it certainly had a marvelous effect of degrading the Iraqis, limiting resistance and scaring entire regular army units into melting away into the background rather that fighting. codeorama
I thought that it was, I just wasn't sure. But the media sure jumped on it. thanks
redman
I think more and more that it was a propaganda move to play with the Iraqis and mislead them into focusing on an early massive air assault, versus the ground assault that actually started us off. What's funny in hindsight was that the media, who were obviously taken in, where basically whining during the first week that the shock and awe campaign that they were promised didn't materialize.
AJWatson3
it's probably the same fella who thought of the MOAB: Mother of all Bombs. "shock and awe" does kind of sound like the name for Wrestlemania XXII or something, doesn't it?
