Now granted, these ****ers could have been proactive and done somethig about this two year ago when they were in power. But gas wasn't $4.00 a gallon two years ago.

And the Dems skipped town for five weeks without even bringing the issue up

Thanks Nasty

People voted for these rubes because............................?

Washington, Aug 1 - In a dramatic revolt against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) refusal to allow Congress to vote on legislation to increase American-made energy and lower gas prices, House Republicans today refused to leave the House floor after Speaker Pelosi adjourned the House for the five-week August break, staying in the chamber to speak directly to Americans watching the historic event unfold above the floor in the House gallery. Even after lights, cameras, and microphones in the chamber were turned off, House Republicans were undeterred, continuing to make speech after speech demanding that Speaker Pelosi listen to the calls of the American people – including those coming from whistling, applauding, and cheering Americans sitting in the gallery – for more environmentally-responsible drilling for oil and gas here at home to reduce the price at the pump. Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) defied the Democratic majority by providing live updates on the protest via Twitter directly from the House floor.

Members participating in the spontaneous uprising included Reps. Roy Blunt, John Boehner, Michael Burgess, John Campbell, Eric Cantor, Shelly Moore Capito, John Carter, Mike Conaway, John Culberson, Charlie Dent, Jeff Fortenberry, Virginia Foxx, Louie Gohmert, Pete Hoekstra, Duncan Hunter, Thaddeus McCotter, Mike Pence, Tom Price, Ted Poe, Adam Putnam, Bill Sali, John Shadegg, John Shimkus, Tim Walberg, and Lynn Westmoreland.

The protest came just minutes after House Republican leaders delivered a letter to Speaker Pelosi demanding that she call the House back into emergency session this month to deal with America’s ever-worsening energy crisis. The letter noted:

“With American families and small businesses facing record high gasoline prices, Congress has adjourned to leave Washington for a five-week break. The message this sends to the American people is bad enough; its ramifications, however, are far worse. You have the power to call Congress back into session at any moment to deal with issues of urgent national importance…”

“Congress should not take the next five weeks off while the American people suffer at the pump. We respectfully request that you schedule a vote on the comprehensive American Energy Act during an emergency legislative session this month."

Today’s floor revolt has offered Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic leadership colleagues a preview of what they can expect during the August break: House Republicans continuing to hold the Democratic Majority accountable for their refusal to listen to the American people struggling with high gas prices.

So, you just found out Congress bails in August or is this another anti-Obama rant ?

It's an anti-democrat rant. What the **** have these losers done in TWO YEARS? NOTHING?

Yet I just paid $71 today to fill my truck. And they took off on vacation for 5 weeks

Thanks ****ers

There was no proposal to lower gas prices, the bill they're referring to was about offshore drilling-which won't have a true effect until years down the road.

Now that being said, this is pathetic. You can't just 'take your ball and go home' because you don't want to hear what the other side has to say. This is a Democratically controlled Congress, if they wanted to defeat the bill they should have tried to do it by legitimate means.

Pelosi is a dumb *****

Because as bad as the Democrats might be, and as much as most Americans might disagree with some of their politics... The Democrates are not known to be corrupt, out of touch, and incompetent at their core... And six years of Republican rule in congress and eight years in the Presidency has demonstrated conclusively to the nation that the GOP are all of these things..

It will take a decade to remove the stink of the Bush Administration and the lousy republican stuffed shirts in the legislature from the GOP brand.... The democrats will be given their chance to show they can be as historically poor as the GOP has proved to be in the early 21 century, before the country will trust the GOP again.

Bush merely lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling and oil dropped $6 a barrel. Think of the psychological effect on the price if Congress even ACTED like they were serious about following suit

But where the hell are they? Gone on ****king vacation?

Who was stupid enough to vote for these people again....................

Yeah, that's why they have a whole 10% approval rating

Explain this to me.

Why is it, if offshore drilling is such an EXCELLENT idea, that this just now became an issue...during the election season...despite the fact that oil prices have consistently been on the rise...

Hmmmm

It's been an issue for over a decade, but the public became lazy about the idea because gas was cheap, complacency is a mother****er.

So the fact that it came up just now is pure coincidence?

I think if the GOP really thought this was the magic bullet, they would have gotten it done when they had the majority in Congress.

Yep. That and some people gave more sway to the enviro's than they did to energy policy

2.68 cents in September of 2006, again it wasn't the "magic bullet" because it really wasn't crucifying peoples wallets. So with that being said 2.68 does not equal 4.00. The price of gas is a big problem now and those in power are doing nothing about it.

But how far will drilling drop the prices?

We know that it won't have an actual physical effect on supply for a long time, how much will it do to bring down the prices that everyone seems to love to blame on the speculators.

I think more of a concerted effort needs to be made to research and develop alternative fuels but I agree that the Dems in Congress are doing very little right now except complaining and shooting down the GOPs ideas.

Congress has a 10% approval rating, not Democrats in Congress.

Simple fact of the matter is without a veto proof majorty in the house, or a filibuster proof majority in the senate, and without the Presidency; their isn't much congress can do...

The American people will definitely pass judgement on the Democratic congress, but before they do they will actually put them in power, rather than just give them a seat at the table.

GOP thinks it finally has an issue that it can hit the Democrats hard on.

The fact that this bill would have zero effect on the price at the pump today and only a few cents difference years from now means nothing to them.

The question is whether you can get the public focused on this, and paint the Democrats as evil obstructionists.

So far, it's working pretty well. The GOP is great at this game.

If we had started drilling in 96 we'd have it by now but the same ol tired of argument of it's gonna be x amount of years till we can use it keeps being thrown around. It's real simple, the sooner we start, the sooner we reap the benefits. Yes the oil producing nations will lower cost or increase production because the higher the price, the harder and faster we'll drill.

Again, why didn't Congress get this done when the Repubs had control, earlier in Bush's Presidency?

That was a perfect time to do it, while Bush was scaling back environmental standards etc.

Sarge, Dick Cheney was in charge of setting Bush's national energy policy. And Cheney invited in the big oil companies to basically tell him what they wanted done. For eight years Bush hasn't done anything productive on energy. Didn't build a single new refinery, he cut efficiency rates for cars, gave tax cuts for folks who bought SUV's, and gave massive deductions to oil companies who were making record profits year in and year out.. Bush basically said the market would sort things out, while giving tax cuts to the industry and cutting government regulations......

Even today what the GOP want's is what the big oil companies want. They want to be able to drill where there are known pockets of oil. Doesn't matter that those pockets won't hit the market for more than a decade. Doesn't matter that those pockets are no where near enough to satisfy our problem today, much less in a decade from now.

Actually, I think they did try, but it was blocked by the Democrats and a handful of dissenting Republicans.

If they have any sense at all, they'll get rid of the psychos

For two years they don't nothing but try to surrender to AQ, cut military funding, raise the minimum wage and shoot down every idea to give regular joes a break at the pumps

And now where are they?

On ****ING VACATION

Where are the Dems?

Where are the Dems?

Where are the Dems?

I dunno maybe because between 01-05 we had a couple bigger issues to contend with?

when u make a comment like this, it helps when it doesn't start out with "I think" and ends as vague as "handful" of dissenting republicans.

way more credible if facts are given. :2cents:

And tell the audience why there where no new refineries built. Or no new nuke plants started. OR no other drilling in Alaska or anywhere else
