GSF
Does any one know, or can anyone provide a link to a list of what percentages of our oil we buy from different counties? Thanks.
Nighthawk
It varies from Oil company to Oil company. Sunoco for example doesn't buy any oil from the middle east. Here's a link to their corporate site where they detail where they get their oil from. http://www.sunocoinc.com/aboutsunoco/nerefiningf.htm Sources of Crude Oil, 2001 Refining and Supply (Thousands of Barrels Daily) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crude Type: West African Light 437.8 West Texas Intermediate and Oklahoma Sweet 133.9 Canadian 82.8 North Sea 37.1 South and Central American Light .6 "Lubes-Extracted" Gasoil/Naphtha Intermediate Feedstock 3.2 Total 695.4 If you check other oil company websites they'll provide the same information. Canyonero!
Also, certain regions of the US get additional/reduced imports from the world. The Upper Midwest gets most of it's oil from Canada for example. Here's a chart that breaks down how much oil we get from our top 10 oil export countries. And here's a thread from a while back that breaks it down by company.
codeorama
After the war, we won't need to buy it from anyone.
JimboDaMan
I think I've read that we "only" get 5% of our oil from Iraq, mostly from people stating this war has nothing to do with oil. I put "only" in quotes because a disruption of 5% could probably be covered from elsewhere but would be pretty significant if for some reason we couldn't. Oil isn't the deciding trigger for this war, but its crazy to ignore its influence completely. Most experts think Iraq has been operating at a third or less of capacity, and at triple the production Iraq becomes a major player.
