if you're from France there never was a holocaust?

We asked for it, hell, practically begged for it. Bush never should have allowed himself to be talked into going the UN Security Council route by Colin Powell. China, Russia, France, I don't believe ever had any intention of supporting military action against Iraq. I think they only agreed to the first resolution because they knew ultimately they could put the brakes on it when the time came. It ultimately won't matter. We're going to do what the Bush Administration deems is in our national interests, but we'll take more abuse for it now than if we'd just bypassed the UN entirely and gone forward with what we deemed was in our national interest. The irony is that we won't get UN blessing for action without a smoking gun, but realistically we don't have the assets on the ground to find one without going in militarily.

As for France, well this is par for the course, and Germany is right there with them as far as playing both sides of the fence (until they desperately need us that is).

The French first of all have gotten so caught up in maintaining their national identity (ironically while arguing for internationalism on our part) that they at least initially oppose almost anything that we want. The Germans are only slightly better in this regard, but their present left-of-center leadership negates that.

To make matters worse, based upon recent hisotry both countries seem to view Iraq more as an entreprenurial opportunity than as an international menace. Why should we inconvenience their money-making ventures inside Iraq with our war-mongering?

The U.N. is nothing more than a powerless, spineless, symbolic debate society. That people actually believe that they - as opposed to the U.S. - provide international leadership is laughable.

Iraq doesn't have nukes...we'd be hard pressed to launch a ground war against a nutjob like Hussein if he did. But your post does clearly identify the problem with screwing around until he does possess one. It will be bad enough just with the risk of chemical attack which most likely will occur.
