jimster
from the Broncos website Middlebrooks Among Cuts As Broncos Trim Roster By Andrew Mason DenverBroncos.com ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Broncos officially trimmed their roster to 75 players, releasing 12 players -- including 2001 first-round pick Willie Middlebrooks -- while placing wide receiver Domenik Hixon on the reserve/non-football injury list. Five of the 12 players waived by the Broncos were on the team's offensive line: guards P.J. Alexander and Martin Bibla, offensive tackles Javiar Collins and Cornell Green and center/guard Rob Hunt. The team also trimmed a pair of linebackers (Kevin Harrison and T.J. Hollowell) -- two defensive tackles (Patrice Majondo-Mwamba and Bryan Save) two cornerbacks (Middlebrooks and Antwaun Rogers) and fullback Rashon Powers-Neal. "It's always tough," Head Coach Mike Shanahan said following a Tuesday afternoon practice. "Guys have been working with us since April, and going through the offseason conditioning program, going through the (organized team activities) in the summer camp. It's always a tough day, but I get a chance to sit down with each guy and talk to them for at least five minutes or so (about) their potential future -- not only in the National Football League, but maybe with us at a different time." For Middlebrooks, the release brings an end to his second term with the Broncos, which began when the team signed him in May. Denver had traded the six-year veteran to the San Francisco 49ers last July in exchange for defensive end John Engelberger, but he was released by the 49ers multiple times during the 2005 season. Jimbo
Unfortunately, Middlebrooks is not real physical for a guy his size. He's not quite agressive enough against the run. He is also not very instinctive with his back to the ball. His real strength is as the deep man in a cover-2 zone facing the ball. He's been tried at safety and can cover like one but doesn't hit like one. As a person, Joe Gibbs would love him. As a player, Gregg Williams would hate him.
