What does this game mean?

A feeling of dread should accompany my views of this week's game. A desire to avoid such a horrible repeat of last week's showcase should be overriding. Instead, I just kind of feel curious. I want to see what kind of team we have and this game will tell you a lot about it. If it falls flat, it doesn't mean we're doomed just as last year didn't. If we come out with a fight and win, or play close, it means we've got a bit more heart a bit more early in the year than in years past.

Thinking back, this game strikes me as the type of game a Norv Turner team would win or play teasingly well in. Perhaps that's wrong, but, when Norv would have a clunker, it seemed his teams generally responded best with a back against the wall. I don't want to practice that ability with Spurrier, but, of the things Norv left us, if that is one, it wouldn't be so bad Sunday :).

I just hope the REDSKINS show up Sunday, and not the team that was masquerading as the Skins last Monday night. I am wondering how the guys felt when they looked at the man in the mirror Tuesday morning.

I have not lost faith in the team or in the coachES. I still believe we will have 10 wins.

On the plus side for the Redskins, the defense has yet to have a quality performance and the team is still 1-1.

That said, the Redskins first 6 or 7 games outside the Arizona opener are schedule wise a brutal start for a new head coach. All playoff teams from last year or teams that are looking to rebound from poor 2001 seasons that have good talent on them.

My feeling has always been that the Redskins will not be a true contender until they get better playmaking capability at the qb spot. Matthews can be effective when he gets a good dose of help from the running game and time to throw, but he is not going to make plays on his own due to his arm strength or his ability to get out of the pocket.

So, to me this season is about respectability, producing a winning record (which still is possible given the back side of the schedule IF the team can steal a game or two in the next 4-5) and getting Ramsey prepared to start in 2003.

While we get Ramsey ready to go we need to end the merry go round on the lines. It is a testament to his grit to see Gardener trying to tough it out at DT this season, but for next year we need to grab a young DT with size to build around. We also need to put some 'lipstick on that pig' so to speak out at DE.

If we see Bruce out there again next summer as the starting DE at age 41 I am going to scream. Weren't we talking about platooning him or making him a rush specialist a year ago at this time?

On the offensive line we better get Jansen resigned. I am beginning to sense that Jon is starting to feel the Skins are quick to reward other teams' free agents in the offseason but slow to reward their own players that make a difference for the club.

To lose a player just entering his prime would be a definite setback.

Especially when the cupboard is bare in terms of prospects. Rod Jones, Ross Tucker, Kipp Vickers, Reggie Coleman?

The thought of any of these players at RT next season is enough to make me sick to my stomach :puke:

Perhaps the feeling you had contributes to the curiousness this week. It may have been a feeling more for the whole season than the one game hence the more subtle nature of it.

Usually everyone would have gone apopletic with the complete meltdown that was Monday. But there are quite a few posting that are not so upset including myself. It may be scar tissue. (I wonder what feelings a Lion's fan goes through?)

One thing, however, I don't want to see is character reminiscent of 3 coaches ago.
