Red Zebra taps WTEM sales vet

Dan Snyder's Red Zebra Broadcasting, which plans to build a radio network for Snyder's Washington Redskins, has hired Stephen Johnson, a 22-year sports marketing and sales veteran, to lead sales for the Redskins Radio Network.

Johnson had previously worked with Red Zebra chief executive Bennett Zier at sports radio station WTEM when Zier was general manager. Johnson was WTEM's Redskins sales manager.

"Steve Johnson is the best play-by-play sales professional in the country," says Zier in a statement. "I am delighted and honored to be joined with Steve again as we start our new company, Red Zebra Broadcasting, and take on the play-by-play rights for the Washington Redskins."

Red Zebra, formed in January, has already acquired three radio stations in the Washington market for a reported $33 million.

Before being hired by Snyder, Zier was regional vice president for Clear Channel Communications.

It would be great if they would expand the radio network to reach more areas of the country besides Virginia and Maryland.

I would love to be able to listen to Sonny and Sam again.

.....

By a Sirius radio and you can hear them every week!!! They carry both local team feeds for every game!
