RLeVan
What is with all the threads about anything without hitting or running isn't a sport? Curling is very much a sport, and an ancient one at that. Yes, there were sports before snowboards and hockey. Curling, much like pool or billiards is a finesse sport. The stones that they throw are 42lbs. They are 90ft (30yds for us football folk) from the scoring rings. Now, imagine trying to hit a stone that's 1ft wide from 30yds away. If you can, that's the easiest throw in curling. Being able to throw a stone and "curl" it around a blocking stone "blocker" and stop it inside the rings is hard as heck. Unfortunately, television makes sports like this and luge appear to be very simple. Even watching the European dart championship, it looks easy. Before you ask, I also consider NASCAR a sport. Is it as physically demanding as football, not physically but mentally it is.
smsmith40
Absolutely curling is a sport. From personal experience throwing down the first one of those stones is damn hard work. By the time you get to the twentieth stone of a game that lasts a couple of hours you are pretty tired, the sweeping is pretty hard work too. It takes skill, strength and strategy while competing against another team. Why wouldn't that be a sport. BTW curling has been in and out of the Olympics since 1924. Rumrunner6900
"A sport has physical activity, side by side competition, and a scoring system. The difference of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of individual (or team) skill or prowess." According to Websters NASCAR is out  IMO, sounds like NASCAR is a sport by that definition.
