Getting Saunders is a good move. The offense needed some shaking up. Gibbs is big enough to recognize that he needs some updates in this area. He has not allowed his ego to get the best of him.

On the other side, I will say it seems like we are a bit top heavy. I heard the NFL network refer to the fact that we have 2 OCs and 2 DCs. I'm guessing they are talking about the QB coach as the second OC. It does make you wonder what Gibbs will be doing on the sideline. But again, I think this is a step in the right direction.

I see Gibbs as Head Coach/President of the Redskins.

He is assembling a crew and "delegating" all phases of the operation similar to his doings at Joe Gibbs Racing..... his job this time, is to oversee and guide the entire Skins "football" operation top to bottom.

If he does his job well, as we all hope he does, he should be able to "retire" from the Redskins leaving the organization in excellent shape and with his "stamp" on it.....for years to come.

That is exactly how I see it as well. Joe Gibbs cannot coach forever. He is getting things in shape and ready for the day he retires.

He has returned. He has instilled the Joe Gibbs way into the team. It stopped everyone from questioning the top brass. He hired all of his future top brass so that when he does retire again, the team is in "allstate hands".

This is also a fine example of "whats best for the team"..a concept that seems to have been lost among some of todays players. Its a WE thing..Coach Gibbs has always shown his true self in his totally "SELFLESS" approach to the game. Hopefully this will be something that the entire team can recognize and appreciate for what it is..

'gave up his job?" absolutely not! To me this shows what a great job hes doing and how in control of this team he is.

I read an article that had a good example.

Holmgren HAD the same power Gibb did and was not being as successful as he was accustomed to because he was no longer just a head coach but he was in charge of all football operations.

This year, he gave up some power and hired a general manager and thay gave him more time to focus on football and now he's in the super bowl.

Gibbs is in the same boat but came at it in a different direction. Gibb's strength is in organizational Leadership. Look as his nascar success. The redskins organization is bit muddled in between Dan Snyder and the head coach.

Now Gibbs can focus on his President position and focus on personnel matters, everyday operations, Drafting and scouting. I don't think Gibbs offense will be totally abandoned, hell we did finish 10th in the league in offense which ain't too shabby.

Saunders did say he would tweek and add a few wrinkles, lets face it, a total overhaul would be somewhat of a step sideways since the team would have to learn new schemes, plays and terminology but thats why this such a good fit because Saunders system was already similar.

It takes a really humble man to be able to admit he needs help and get someone in here to do his job. NO EGO AT ALL.

Can we say that about any of our previous coaches?

Guys think for a second. This is like adding a specialist or an expert consultant to a job. I think the move was brilliant for one key reason, look at all the teams we struggled against this season. A majority of our losses have been to AFC TEAMS. So who do we grab? Somebody familiar with AFC schemes and teams. If all Saunders does is create special offensive schemes, packages and play calls vs AFC opponents, that alone would plug in a key gap. Who knows, maybe gibbs will handle NFC opponents and Saunders will handle AFC. At the very least I see Gibbs and Saunders working together to come up with new plays and then organizing their sequence of execution. Gibbs will always have the final say on calls, and can implement a play package as he feels needed, other than that, I think Gibbs is doing whats best for the team, in spite of what people may think or say.

Great point! I hadn't thought of it that way. If you can't beat them - join them! Imagine one or two wins against one of the AFC West teams gives us at least one (if not more) playoff games at home.
