They are 3-4. How can a team with a losing record be in the top 10. Someone is smoking some serious stuff!
The Chargers are the same team as the Giants (strong offense; weak defense) but with a different record. I happen to think the Chargers took one win off the board by themselves when they killed Gates' chance to play in the season opener vs. the Cowboys, and then lost a squeaker there - if he plays, they win that one.

In other words, I respect them overall - I think they're a better team than their record. Top ten? No. But that's a good team.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the seahawks are an elite team. Yes they are pretty good and should make the playoffs, but definitely not 5th in the league. Also, the falcons are not the best team in the nfc.

You're right the Falcons aren't the best team in the NFC, but as long as they have the most over-rated player in the sport, they're going to be ranked that high.

My take on the NFC teams ahead of us.

3 (4) Falcons

Did anybody watch that game last night? No passing offense at all. They have a good D and a great running game but will Vick make it through the season?

5 (11) Seahawks

Just silly that people always hype them every season. The consistantly crumble down the strech and Alexander isn't the RB he has been the past few years.

6 (5) Buccaneers

Okay I can see that with Griese playing but he's out for the season. They start the slide down this Sunday.

7 (6) Eagles

Either will not or cannot run the ball. McNabb hurting badly. Some stupid coaching calls in that game they should have lost. Certainly they have taken a couple steps back this year and the rest of the NFC East has taken a couple steps forward.

10 (14) Giants

Hyped up to the point it's making me mad. Yes Eli is playing good...against some pretty bad defenses. And their D can't stop anybody.

13 (13) Panthers 4-2-0

Without Jake Delhomme they are fooling nobody.

13 (13) Panthers 4-2-0

Without Jake Delhomme they are fooling nobody.

WITH Delhomme they shouldn't be fooling anybody. Delhomme has been god awful this year with his only effective pass being the underthrow. Teams are starting to catch on that is all he throws and the costly interceptions are mounting.

Of course, the Panthers are the media darlings and the mediots buy into everything they do. Just switch around the Panthers and 'skins schedules and the 'skins are 6-0 and the pathetic Panthers are 1-5 (2-4 at best).

Who's their overrated player?

Despite this poll, I think the Skins could easily be ranked in the top 10 or better.

Its simply...amazing that they have us ranked this low...our opponents combined record is 22-17.....thats pretty impressive especially when you consider that if you remove the games we played against them...they would be 20-13......we've had a hard schedule and it will get a bit harder......frankly I like being disrespected because it gives our guys incentive to play harder and spank our competition...

2005 Power Rankings: Week 8

RK (LW) TEAM REC COMMENT

1 (1) Colts 7-0-0 Maybe the Colts won't want to pay him as much as it will take, but there's no way they'll just be able to replace Edgerrin James.

2 (8) Steelers 4-2-0 Steelers went back to basics. Pounding the ball on the ground with Willie Parker, a bruising Jerome Bettis and company for 221 yards.

3 (4) Falcons 5-2-0 It says more about the NFL right now that the Falcons are ranked No. 3 than it actually says about how good the Falcons are.

4 (2) Broncos 5-2-0 Tough loss to swallow. Broncos were riding a five-game winning streak that looked almost certain to go to six before stunning collapse against Giants.

5 (11) Seahawks 5-2-0 OK Seattle fans, you can stop pinching yourselves. The Seahawks really did win the type of wild finish they've normally blown.

6 (5) Buccaneers 5-1-0 It might be unrealistic, but you know Tim Rattay has already imagined throwing a game-winning TD against the 49ers this weekend.

7 (6) Eagles 4-2-0 Maybe they should have lost the game, but what the Eagles did to LaDainian Tomlinson (7 yds. on 17 carries) was pretty impressive.

8 (10) Jaguars 4-2-0 Take a look at the Jaguars' schedule the rest of the way. They should win 10 games minimum.

9 (3) Bengals 5-2-0 Bengals are still a game up on the Steelers, but Sunday's loss had to be a big blow. To have all that buildup and not produce -- it will be interesting to see how the Bengals bounce back.

10 (14) Giants 4-2-0 Peyton Manning's passer rating jumped to 90.7 his second season. Right now Eli's is 88.3. If Eli can duplicate Peyton's success in the win column (the Colts were 13-3 in his second season), they'll be building statues of him in NYC.

11 (12) Patriots 3-3-0 All eyes will obviously be on Tedy Bruschi and whether he's back in the lineup Sunday night against the Bills.

12 (9) Chargers 3-4-0 The Chargers are clearly the best 3-4 team in the NFL. But they need to start winning some close games or they'll dig theselves a hole that's too big to get out of.

13 (13) Panthers 4-2-0 Jake Delhomme will be back behind center, but the team has to be happy knowing it can turn to Chris Weinke if necessary.

14 (16) Redskins 4-2-0 We'll admit we were doubters, but anyone out there still think Mark Brunell doesn't have anything left?

15 (15) Chiefs 4-2-0 What a week! Victory in Miami; two division rivals blow games; and they now have two extra days to get ready for the Chargers and LT.

16 (7) Cowboys 4-3-0 Second time this season the Cowboys have flat-out blown a game at the end. Bill Parcells isn't going to be any fun to be around this week.

17 (19) Rams 3-4-0 Pretty amazing -- Jamie Martin is 35, has been in the NFL for 11 years, and Sunday was his first win as a starter (and only his fourth start).

18 (17) Bills 3-4-0 Big letdown for the Bills, who could have moved into first in the AFC East and built up some momentum heading into Week 8's big divisional game against the Patriots.

19 (18) Bears 3-3-0 Bears brought the pressure Sunday. Every time you looked up, there was a Chicago defender in the Ravens' backfield.

20 (23) Lions 3-3-0 Now that the Lions have a QB in Jeff Garcia, they need to find some WRs. Kevin Johnson has joined the group of ailing wideouts.

21 (30) Vikings 2-4-0 So Mike Tice said some "negative" things to get the Vikings going on Sunday. Did he really have anything positive to say before then?

22 (29) Raiders 2-4-0 LaMont Jordan became first Raiders back with three rushing TDs since Marcus Allen in 1985. Impressive company.

23 (28) Cardinals 2-4-0 It's not a good thing when your kicker is nearly doubling up the offensive players' scoring (66-36).

24 (24) Titans 2-5-0 Billy Volek has put up gaudy numbers at times, but he's just 3-7 as a starter.

25 (20) Dolphins 2-4-0 It will be interesting to see if Ricky Williams can succeed being an 8-10 carry back (so far he hasn't). Williams was always at his best getting 25 carries a game and punishing opposing defenses.

26 (21) Ravens 2-4-0 Obviously teams are stacking the line to stop the run, but there has to be something physically wrong with Jamal Lewis, too.

27 (22) Jets 2-5-0 The Jets turned the ball over 16 times all last season. They've already turned it over 16 times this year in seven games.

28 (25) Browns 2-4-0 When you throw for 73 yards and three INTs, people will start calling for your job. Pretty much no way around that.

29 (27) Saints 2-5-0 They might not have won anyway, but the Saints got robbed by the officials for the second straight week.

30 (26) Packers 1-5-0 With three of their top four WRs out of the lineup, don't be surprised if Donald Driver gets about 15-20 looks a game.

31 (31) 49ers 1-5-0 The Texans have to stay at No. 32, but the 49ers sure could make a pretty good case for the bottom spot.

32 (32) Texans 0-6-0 One easy way to limit the number of sacks you give up is to pass the ball only nine times.

No chance the Seahawks are the 5th best team in the league. No chance.

8 (10) Jaguars 4-2-0 Take a look at the Jaguars' schedule the rest of the way. They should win 10 games minimum.

Let me get this straight...the Jags are a good team because they have a crappy schedule? Nice logic.

31st ranked defense in a 32-team league. Last I checked, defense was still half the battle.

12 (9) Chargers 3-4-0 The Chargers are clearly the best 3-4 team in the NFL. But they need to start winning some close games or they'll dig theselves a hole that's too big to get out of.

Considering there are only three 3-4 teams in the league, this isn't saying a whole lot.
