I think its unrealistic to assume that a veteran top tier qb like Russel Wilson or Rodgers would want to come to an organization like ours. I also do not want Deshaun Watson who doesn't even want to come here and has the reputation of a serial rapist to become our franchise leader, especially when our Dan Snyder run organization is trying to get away from that image.
I am also unimpressed with much of the qb talent in this upcoming draft. Historically about a third of all draft classes in the last two decades have not contained any franchise qbs and I think this qb draft class is likely to be one of them. Using a first round pick on a guy like Pickett or Corral who both seem like third round talent if they were in any of the past few draft classes, feels like a waste. I think our best shot at finding a franchise qb is next years draft because the qb talent in that class is already so much stronger than the 2022 draft class. We cannot start Heinicke again, but I do not believe a guy like Trubisky is much of an upgrade over him.
Personally I think Jimmy G is our best option for next year. His stat line and highlights are not dazzling but he's a proven winner. He is 31-14 as a starter and the 49ers are 7-26 without him in the lineup. I could see Jimmy G taking us to a record like 11-6 since our division is still pretty weak and we get to play much weaker non-divisional teams. Since the 49ers mortgaged their team by trading three first round picks for Trey Lance they will be looking to get rid of Jimmy G's massive contract. We are an ideal team because we have lots of cap space and with a contract as big as his I think he will probably go for a third or at the very most a second round pick. I know its hard to go into another season without a potential franchise qb but if we stay relatively healthy I see us making the playoffs with Jimmy G and then we can finally go all in on moving up for a franchise guy in the 2023 draft.
