I wouldn't trust Tua to stay healthy even with a clean medical. I'm sure he had a clean medical at the start of his last two years in college. I don't know many players who couldn't hold up to the college game and had multiple serious injuries then suddenly became healthy and invulnerable as a pro. A quarterback is going to take hits. Big hits. Blindside hits. A mobile qb almost always takes more hits.

As I've said before, it may just be because the RGIII injury bug has made me skittish, but I wouldn't roll those dice. More importantly, the last group I'd trust to deliver a meaningful clean medical report is the Redskins.

The concerns about his health are legit.  No question from me.  But I'm willing to bet on Tua because the potential a great starting caliber qb can bring to your team changes the team's outlook for a decade +.  I'm not overlooking his health problems - it has the potential to ruin his career.  But I'm willing to take a chance.  As good as chase young is you cannot win the big one (of course there are a few anomalies) without a QB.  Even this past year - best defensive line with DROY pass rusher.  Can't win without good QB play and who knows if they will ever be back.  A great pass rusher is a piece to the puzzle.  a great QB solves the puzzle.

There are certain teams that are perennial contenders, and that's because of one position.  and it ain't pass rusher.

  2. IMO Tua has a much higher floor/ceiling than haskins.  Much, much higher.  He is my pick at #2 if we get a clean medical.  That's not to say anything bad about CY, I think he has huge upside.  But a healthy Tua is arguably the best player in the draft at the most important position in all of sports.  If you can hit at the QB spot it can revolutionize a franchise.  If health were not a concern Tua'd be your #1 pick.

For once, an absolutely bang on move from UEFA.

    100% behind this.

You DON'T F around with head injuries. And no team should be penalised whilst a players being fully assessed.

    Hail.

Problem is if a head injury occurs early in the match you basically have to trot a replacement out there with no warm up.  Which puts that player of muscle injury.  And if you do give them a bit of a warmup by the time the warmup has concluded surely the concussion evaluation will be over.

BTW, Chelsea are European champions I don't care what anyone says!

Steve Nash played soccer and is very knowledgeable they didn’t just pick s random ex NBA player. He knows the game better than most American ex pros I’ve heard do commentary.

He's a spuds fan though so his opinion is irrelevant.

  5. I don’t expect loads of thanks from Liverpool fans but I turned the game on 2 minutes before the Kante goal....nbd. Everyone was talking about how city was playing us off the park to start but as soon as I turned on that tv it was Chelsea advantage.

I dont want want to take credit for it but...maybe I do?

  6. By far the best game of the season so far in the prem. It had everything, goals, movement, GREAT saves, a worldie, world class players, defense, and atmosphere. I think 1-1 is a fair result the way it all went.  I’m impressed with sarri, my guess is he’s sharing a glass of wine with Klopp after the game laughing at man united. Chelsea need a striker to really be competitive, but giroud is still miles ahead of morata. Kovacic was great and Eden was...Eden.

Of course sturridge had to score it...of course.

  7. @Gibbs Hog Heaven Unfortunately I missed the game yesterday but watched the highlights.  Looked like two teams who rotated heavily but still battled and really wanted to advance to the next round.  That should always be the case when two elite clubs face off, no matter the competition...so I'm happy with that.  I looked up the stats at halftime and saw possession in our favor and shots even.  Then after halftime possession was closer to even and you had taken a fairly large shot on target advantage...then the goal.  Then Eden came on and things changed from what I can tell.  Speaking of Eden...

And you hit on exactly what is the most frustrating part about Eden Hazard: consistency.  From a dribbling and technical perspective he's already one of the two best in the world IMO, but if he starts adding goals at a consistent rate then he is firmly in the top 3 or 4 best players around.  My fear is as soon as he becomes consistent in his goal scoring he will move to Madrid and they will get the best of the player we have been cultivating for the past 6 years...

Anyway, see you back in the thread this weekend!

The tougher part for me to make sense of right now is what exactly the front office's plan is for the Alex Smith era itself.  We all know he is not the long term answer, but does the team have a plan laid out for a franchise QB, and whether or not they intend to draft young skill position players for that QB so they will be hitting their 2nd and 3rd seasons when Alex Smith hands over the reigns.

This kind of thing worries me more than how the team finishes in 2018.  I never really get any kind of idea of just what in the heck the front office is trying to do.

Our plan is continue to get between 6 and 9 wins every year, never improve with good enough draft picks, and drive me personally insane. That is our plan.

  9. Courtois is a snake.  Adios amigo, welcome Kepa.  I don't know much about him at all but apparently a young talented keeper.  I said it before in this thread and I can't go back on it now...that's too much to pay for a GK.  I said it with Alison and I'll say it with Kepa.

Mateo Kovacic apparently coming in on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season as well.  Good, low risk business for a quality midfielder.  A midfield trio of Kovacic, Jorginho, and Kante sounds really good.  Hope they can gel.

Not a great preseason, but I can see things are starting to formulate.  We will know how good this side can be in a month.  Our best players just returned from Holiday and will make a large impact.  Biggest issue right now is up front.  Morata just doesn't seem to have the ability I thought he did this time last year.  Hopefully Sarri's system can fix him but it doesn't look great.

If only he was the first manager to win the league at Chelsea and descend into complete dysfunction the next season. Well actually he is but he was then followed by Ancelotti...then him again...then Conte.

I just wanna watch other teams burn at this point lol.  The rollercoaster ride at Chelsea is never boring though!

    1. City

    2. Liverpool

    3. Chelsea

    4. Spuds

    5. Arsenal

    6. United

Those are my top 6 way-too-early predictions.  I will not predict Spuds or Arsenal above Chelsea.  But it wouldn't surprise me either...

  11. Mourinho is gearing up for the classic 3rd year firestorm.  He has already anointed Liverpool champions, basically said Martial is not in his plans, and spent last year bashing Pogba and Lukaku.  It'll be fun to be on the other side of a Mourinho self-destruction, for once.

Big Shaq. 8 Goals. 7 Assits. £13.5 million.

    Richarlison. 5 Goals. 4 Assits. £50 million.

The Ev. A continued source of boss hilarity to Liverpudlians everywhere since 1878.

    Hail.

I’m curious how you and the other pool fans here feel about signing Alisson?  Record for a gk?

My my own personal opinion is goalkeepers in general are never worth their transfer fee and also that alisson is overrated. He was best available for sure and good with his feet but the price quoted?  I dunno seems a very stiff price.

Either way the way the league is shaping up pool and city are obvious favorites.  Spuds united and Chelsea all for two spots basically. Ive heard Liverpool are interested in Gary Cahill also. We will ship him to you but only if you give us salah back. Deal?  :)

According to sky Sports Chelsea is negociating with la Juve for Higuain

Yea for Higuaín and Rugani.  We are basically funding their Ronaldo buy...

it probably also means the end for one of either Batshuayi or Morata.  Morata I think wants to go back to Italy so I think it's very possible by the start of the season Higuaín will be our striker and Donnaruma will be our GK if we swap him for Morata.  The Belgians wearing blue in London are causing quite a ruckus.  Courtois most likely out and I'll stand by the fact that I think we keep Hazard and hopefully convince him to sign a new deal next summer.  Risky...but with such short notice of losing our best player I just don't see how we can let him go now...

  14. Hope anyone traveling or getting to see their club in action this summer has a great time. All the posts make me jealous. It’s a goal of mine eventually to get over to the bridge and see chelsea one day...hopefully my guy Kante is still around! his brother died a few weeks before the World Cup, he was sick during the World Cup final, and had to have his teammate nzonzi make sure he got some pictures with the trophy because he was too shy to bother teammates. What a humble young man, I hope chelsea never lose him!

    not sure about this...

The question becomes, what are you willing to pay for marginal return (when compared to position players valued at 70m).  There are very few match winning goalies in the world...is Allison one of them?   Chelsea and Liverpool both appear desperate, and Allison is the best keeper seemingly on the market.  So it's not really shocking to me that he's overvalued. But 70+ for a goalkeeper is nonsensical money for me.

Mate. Slow it right down you’ll give anything. At normal game speed, how he should be viewing it back, there’s no way he can get his hand out the way and there’s no way that’s a penalty on anything other than a false, slowed down perception. It’s supposed to ‘clear and obvious’ to even go to a VAR look. You’re not a novice footie fan. You know there was nottin clear and obvious about that .

    Hail.

Could not agree more. It may have even hit matuidi in which case there’s no time to react. Even if it didn’t, there’s not time given the physical nature of what’s going on to react. Everything about his movement was natural and I’m not giving a PK for that. I’m just not.

In other news, looking forward to the regulars in this thread coming back and talking some PL!!  Sarriball is coming!!!!!

I have a hard time seeing Kante going but imo Hazard was auditioning during this WC. Ironic considering if Chelsea didn't guarantee CL football by winning the competition Hazard is playing for City or United, or Madrid by way of United right now. Can't blame him for wanting to play in the CL though.

Hazard has been on their radar for years. Getting the feeling he's kinda over Chelsea at this point.

The rumors are that zizou is the one who wanted hazard. The club would never budge and get him they wanted asensio to take over when Ronaldo left. Now that zizou is gone it would be strange for them to pursue hazard.

Hazard has 2 years on his contract. If they want him, they will have to offer close to 200m to get him. Otherwise they wait until he is 29 and in the twilight of his career.

No matter what I am a chelsea fan first. It will be hard to see hazard leave. I just can’t see it happening when we have a new manager and are going to add a few attacking pieces. If he does go though, he is my favorite player and I will root for him against everyone but Chels!
