I have tried several times to make an account...

Maybe its because I haven't tried on a computer. Been lurking for years. I really like Javonte Williams if we can get him in the 3rd. I feel like he could possibly go in the second. I'm biased because he came from my tiny high school and he wound up going to my college team. I pull for Wallace Rose Hill, UNC and the football team.  I played with Nate Irving, we got a good program but D1 and draft picks are rare around here

    for sure...go Heels!!!

Of course you're right about that. But EVERY scout completely and utterly failed with Brady...including NE's, seeing as how they waited until the 6th round to take a flyer on him.

But Brady isn't a once in a lifetime thing. He's a once in the history of a sport kind of thing. There was simply no way to know what he would become. And it's not like there was some super secret puzzle piece that if they'd just seen it they would have immediately known that they were looking at the best QB to ever play the game.

Brady's existence doesn't necessarily mean that there are tons of other absolute stud future HoF QBs just milling about in drafts waiting for some intrepid scout to see that missing puzzle piece. If that were true there would be way way way more HoF level QBs playing right now.

agreed...but I'm not hoping for the next Brady or Montana, I'm just hoping for a top 10 qb...and if the "GOAT" can be so easily dismissed then maybe Heinicke has been dismissed too...a boy can dream can't he...

No. I'd probably be ok with taking him if he falls to 19. He's extremely talented but IMO he's not a Kelce, Gronk, Kittle level TE. Those guys are phenomenal pass catchers AND they're great blockers. From what I've seen when I've watched him play and in his cutups, Pitts is a pretty terrible blocker. He also has a very slight frame for a TE at 6'6 240.

He's basically a big WR and whoever draft him is going to need to play him that way. If they try to force him to gain weight and fit him into a Gronk or Kelce role, he's not going to flourish in my opinion.

"I saw a guy win the lottery once with a ticket from a store I've been into as well. Conclusion: That store gives out winning lottery tickets and I should focus my investments on buying lottery tickets from that store every day."

lol or you could conclude that scouts aren't infallible...

  4. didn't wow teams with his arm strength or athleticism. In fact, his 5.24-second 40-time was pretty awful.
    --Poor build
    --Skinny
--Lacks great physical stature and strength
--Lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush
    --Lacks a really strong arm
    --Can’t drive the ball downfield
--Does not throw a really tight spiral
--System-type player who can get exposed if forced to ad lib
    --Gets knocked down easily

    JMSkins is real football savvy...

Yes he is. Did you see his eyes when he thought he was going in? And the look on his face when Scherff was talking to him?

    I imagine the convo was:

SM: Hey Brandon, I think I got this. Do you think I got this?

BS: I doubt it, but don’t be an idiot and make a stupid mistake and cost us the game or I’ll be having a real convo with you in the locker room.

    SM: *Deer in Headlights*

I liked that guys college break down of Montez...seemed to have the same kinda skill set (to a lesser degree) of hienicke...goes through his progressions, good pocket awareness, good at re-establishing...maybe a better arm...nice athleticism...not  Houdini heinicke...but something there...looked bigger...

I agree! I don't want to throw a bunch of picks to the Lions for Stafford given what we saw in Heinicke on Saturday.  Why not offer him a really reasonable three year contract, make him prove it, and then continue to build up our LB, S, TE, and WR positions.  If we dump a bunch of money into a Matt Stafford, that will really hamper our ability to keep our own guys (like the D-Line).  Heinicke is serviceable at the very least and a gamer at his best.  If he stinks it up next year, then we are in good position to have a good selection of QBs to pick from in the following draft and we won't have to give up a bunch of capital to do it.

I’d love to be in position to get Howell after next season...but, baring the injury thing, I truly believe hienicke/Allen/cheap veteran/build THIS team is the way to go...I’ve been drinking but from what I’ve seen a either Allen/hienicke/tyrod-esque combo gets us to 10 wins playoffs/division champs...all in on the TEAM...that’s culture

    Agreed.

Everyone is clamming for us to maximise this ‘window of opportunity’ and now we are handing the keys to a guy with about 70 career completions in the pro game.

He did play great though, I’ll grant him that.

Could he be worse than the last 30 years?...do not let this dude leave...fair competition and let’s see...but don’t let him go

100% agree.  It was such a good story that this off the street kid and Ron's ability to coach him up so fast garnered more praise and online buzz in losing than the goat did in winning.

(Sry...I thought when I said "Pulled a rabbit out of our Heini" it was obvious I was going for a cheap sarcasm poke at this thread in my original post.  You are 100% correct in the story book ending of our season...I haven't been this happy losing the last game of the season in years.)

I haven't been this happy losing the last game of the season in years EVER...

It feels like forever ago, but remember Haskins locker room speech that apparently sparked the team to the 2nd half comeback?

I was always a bit skeptical on that, and wanted to hear more about what exactly he did or said in the locker room.  The above comment makes me wonder if that was some hub-bub to pump Haskins confidence up a bit.

whoa...that's about the most damning statement I've heard

The Oline that won 3 SBs? They didn't start calling themselves the line and then become great. They were great.

How long did that Area 51 thing go on for? How did that work out?

Every time someone gives a nickname to any part of the team, before they earn it (Hoggs 2.0, Capital Defense, East Coast Offense, etc) everything falls apart. No more nicknames!

    yes, let it happen organically

This is a crazy thought.  But hear me out.  In Taylor we may have unsuspectingly found our poor mans Russell Wilson.  This kid seems magical.   He is mobile.  He is smart.  He is resourceful.  He can pass.  Has great vision.  He is fast.  Sounds a lot like someone out west.  Plus, he would be immensely affordable.

Whose to say we couldn’t be modeled  the vaunted Seahawks of 2012 - 2016.  We add a few more pieces (linebackers) and we can arguably have the best defense in football next year.  I want the linebacker Zaven Collins from Tulsa.  Go look him up on YouTube.  Imagine adding him to our defense.  Rueben Foster would be a luxury.  That is typically a two year injury.  He may be a wash.  But what if he’s not.  Ron and Jack could have easily cut him.  Both being linebackers they seem willing to give him one last look by placing him on IR.   This will be it for Foster.

Keep in mind, back then Russell just managed the game.  He wasn’t what he is now.  However he was clutch.  If anything Taylor has been clutch as well.  For instance did you know he had like 14 come from behind wins while in college.  Quite frankly, was on the verge of doing it last Sunday.  But we got ripped on a bogus flop call.  And, had Simms pulled that catch in, we were gonna win that game.   That was with seven minutes left.  Technically the dude almost threw three td passes in nine minutes.

    Why the affordable route.

Our focus needs to be to keep our front together the best we can and for as long as we can.   We go and get a vet and it will cost a fortune.   A Stafford.  A Ryan.  A Dak.  We will lose players as a result of the cap hit. The more we pay for qb, the fewer defensive line players we can re-sign.  And the more players we can add.

We have Allen this off season and Payne next year.  Don’t get me wrong.  There are arguments you can make for a guy like Stafford.  I’m just saying the Seahawk model did work.  Their defense was good when Russell was on that affordable contract.  Not so much now.

Really all we are asking Taylor to do is effectively manage the game.  Make the right reads.  Don’t give the game away.

It’s all just a thought.   Of course all this will be moot if Taylor doesn’t play.  We would need to see him perform again under the bright lights.  On national tv.   I think this kid has “IT.”  Some do.  Some don’t.  We may not win.  But I think he will keep it close.

Moral of message:  Why not model the 2012 - 2016 Seahawks.  They were dominate. We seem to be starting to have the pieces in place for such a run.   Young and hungry.

sooo good I had to like it twice!!

    /plus he's only 27 or 28

//only thing is I've heard (here) he has a "history" of being injured...how much of a history? bad luck?? I dunno

Are there questions about Wilson's character?  I ask because I haven't seen anything about it and after sunshine he's my favorite QB in this year's draft

Some Teams Have Makeup Concerns with Zach Wilson
    Updated Dec. 23, 2020
By Charlie Campbell. Follow Charlie on Twitter @draftcampbell.

Recently, CBS reporter Jason La Canfora broke some interesting news that some NFL teams felt BYU quarterback Zach Wilson could go high in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft and be the second quarterback selected after Clemson's Trevor Lawrence. Since the end of the 2020 NFL Draft, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has been the consensus second-rated quarterback, but La Canfora quoted an executive who felt Wilson could go ahead of Fields. After reading that excellent report by La Canfora, WalterFootball.com followed up with team sources to see if they agreed with that contention. Multiple sources said it was possible that Wilson could go ahead of Fields and high in the first round, but they also said that some teams have character and makeup concerns with Wilson, so there could be some discrepancies across teams and a lack of consensus.

In speaking to a director of college scouting from a NFC team that is in the market for a new quarterback, he outlined the makeup concerns with Wilson:

"Johnny Manziel comp without the [drugs]. [Wilson] is fun to watch, but is he a 1-year flash in the pan? He's a backyard baller who is fun to watch."

"Someone will grab him in the first [round]. I doubt he gets to the second [round] because once the third quarterback goes, after Lawrence and Fields, there will be a run on them. [Wilson] has character concerns, rich kid who is an entitled brat - uncle owns Jet Blue -, parents are a pain, not a leader, selfish, and he's a know-it-all.

"His positives are that he's super competitive, not to get scared and won't back down, extremely confident, very smart with keen recall and teammates will play for him."

That college director outlined the makeup of Wilson well, but his team is strict on character, so perhaps that plays into them having Wilson as the fourth quarterback.

In speaking to a director of college scouting from another team, they said this regarding Wilson in the first round:

"[Wilson]'s going to go high. He may rise to the second quarterback in the draft. I think he's a second-rounder, but I just feel the quarterback spot is different than others and the round is just a starting point. The postseason process changes a lot. He is as talented as the rest, minus Lawrence."

Rounding out the responses we got from team sources, here is what we heard. A third college director thought Wilson would go late in the first round or early in the second round. A player personnel director thought Wilson would go in Round 1, and a senior director of player personnel thought Wilson would go in the second round.

Thus there is big variety in prospect evaluation across the league, and those spreads can happen with quarterback prospects in particular. Add in that some teams have football-character concerns with Wilson, and he could have a big range in the 2021 NFL Draft from high in the first round to somewhere in the second round.
