This article gives a little info:

China’s newest aircraft carrier heads to sea for first time

Thanks. I'm incredibly not-worried now. A carrier is pointless if you can't sustain air operations. That requires A LOT of training and practicing, something we do a **** ton of and they don't.

Do you work for the Navy or something?

Hey all. My 14yo Honda commuter has developed this on the roof in the last 18 months. I've tried waxing with no luck...any suggestions? 2nd pic shows you can scrape it off (I only scraped a small bit in the bottom left of that pic with my fingernail)..but am I scraping off the clear coat or something?

Fwiw, my advice is decide that you care about what your car looks like and get a nicer one or that you don't care and just let it go. Either way, not worth the effort to fix that.

This is true, but for the immediate future China is focused on Taiwan and the South China Sea. Taiwan is about 100 miles off the Chinese coast; the "conflict area" for the South China Sea is further out but obviously not that far from the coast. China doesn't need a global navy to achieve it's immediate goals. Their version of the dear leader has decreed the navy should be prepared to invade Taiwan by 2027, so they have 3 more years of shipbuilding to go, and lots of training.

But as was already pointed out, we control the global seafaring supply lines. And war is ultimately about logistics.

    Three aircraft carriers,

It's been a while since I really looked at their capabilities. Are any of their carriers even seaworthy, much less able to sustain operations?

Yes China's navy is mostly coastal.  95% of the navy doen't sail more than ~1000 km outside of China.

Recently there have been attempts to rectify that by securing bases in the Pacific and Indian Ocean, such as Djibouti and Thailand.   But you're still talking mostly talking about a brown water navy.  As opposed to the US which is the exact opposite - nearly all of our vessels are designed to sail anywhere in the world.

In the event of a conflict with the US, China's coasts are going to be flooded with active sonar.   US subs won't get within 100 km of China's coast.   But they do have pretty long range weapons now so it won't matter all that much.

And China is vulnerable on imports/exports, especially oil from the Middle East.  Somewhat paradoxically, the US Navy keeping the oceans free for global trade has been a massive boon for China.  They can't protect their merchants once they reach the Indian Ocean, if the USN would have to go that far.  Of course, they could use a "shadow fleet" like Russia is doing and ships can simply lie about where they are headed, so there would be some political risk at the USN enforcing a naval blockade beyond the immediate approaches to China.

This is an impressively accurate response on naval doctrine.

China is a different problem. Russia is a land power with a navy that was supposed to be sufficient to defend itself, not to project power overseas like the US navy. China has the largest navy in the world, and can out-produce the US in shipbuilding by about 4:1, and do it for less money. The wargaming of a Chinese invasion and blockade of Taiwan shows both the US and Chinese navies taking huge losses, and whichever side wins that fight, the Chinese are going to be the ones who replace those losses first, and then we have a real problem.

One thing I want to add is our submarine force. Obviously,  we can't say just how good we are or how bad they are. But my understanding is our sub force is leaps and bounds beyond anyone else. That would greatly limit China's ability to operate in deep water much beyond their territorial waters.

Buzzette and I went to an O'Hearn signing last night since that's her main crush. I posted a while back about a ball I mailed him to sign for her birthday last year. Anyways, this happens:

Buzz: hey, you remember last year I wrote you a letter and asked you to sign one of your baseballs for my wife for her birthday?

    O’Hearn: oh ok.

Buzz: yea that was me, just wanted you to know I really appreciated it!

*people look at her, aw that was sweet*

Buzzette: Oh I’m the girlfriend, not the wife.

I'd be cool with a conviction, and a jail-free sentence, on this case.

And a week in jail, for all the court orders he violated during the trial.  (My reasoning would be that the judge couldn't jail him at the time of the offenses, because it would risk prejudicing the jury.  But now that the jury's been dismissed, . . . )

I'd be fine with this also. Then using his status as a convicted felon for harsher sentencing in other cases. The J6 trial, if it ever happens, could see jail time.

I agree with you, but how come Trump Chumps haven't gotten sick of his constant grievances about 'witch hunts' and everything else yet? One would hope that people would get tired of feeling angry all the time, but it seems that being a celebrity who runs for office means being held to a much lower standard by the voters.

Short version? Biden and Trump are appealing to two different level-of-intelligence voters.
