I say we just admire Chicago's trade prowess, point our fingers and laugh at the Panthers, and otherwise stay out of that fray.

Nothing we can do trade-wise would be better than taking Maye or Daniels and developing them with our new massively improved coaching staff. No goofy Snyder-esque business, please.

The old adage is that even the best scouts and GMs rarely hit on more than half of their picks. Thus, the more picks, the better.

So much of this is about the organization that the QB lands in. Do they get supported? Do they get to ride the bench without criticism if there are significant areas of development needed? Is there a culture of accountability and love of hard work? Do the coaches understand the QB's specific talents or do they try to force them into a bad-fit scheme?

We'll never know whether Tim Couch and David Carr had championship potential, because they were stuck on hapless expansion teams.

Adam and Kliff need to choose the best available QB to fit their vision, not necessarily the best overall (if that can even be measured). And then they have to support that young man with the best of everything. I can live with whoever they choose.

I'm ready to just go with whomever the new leadership team thinks fits their scheme and vision the best. We outsiders can make a case for all three, but we're not the ones who have the full picture.

With Forbes, I like what Quinn said in his press conference about player utilization. Try to find out what the kid does well, rather than sticking him out there on an island and hoping for the best. Maybe it won't be enough, but I imagine Quinn and Whitt will give it a good try.

I wanted an offensive guy, too. However, once Ben Johnson flaked out, I'm not sure there was a Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay to be had in this hiring cycle. The OCs that were hired up to HC this year all seem awfully green, apart from Brian Callahan, and he's an unknown commodity having coached under Zac Taylor for several years. 

I'm coming around to the idea that Quinn might have been the best available coach in this cycle. His hiring doesn't bring much excitement by itself, but maybe it's time to stop winning the offseason and start winning the actual season.

Also, this guy loves kicking ass and telling you about it, what's not to like? It's the infectious energy that's really going to go a long way for this team, something that was extremely lacking over the past few years. RR wasn't exactly a tonesetter. 

I predict there'll be some guys who surprise us all next year. Dotson comes to mind, and perhaps Jamin.

Mike Shannahan believed in something similar. He always said he liked to look at a guys highlight film and make it his mission to get THAT guy on the field in whatever capacity he could. Find out what a guy is exceptional at and then find a way for him to do it consistently. That's why he went with Trent Williams when everyone said that it was a bad move.... to the point where he has to literally say this a few times in Trent's defense. 

Belichick took that philosophy to its limits. He'd find guys who could only do one thing well and would wash out otherwise, and then get great results asking them to only do that one thing. It takes a lot of planning and coordination to build a roster that way, for sure.

It is ALL ABOUT Peters and the acquisition of talent.  It starts with selecting the right QB with the #2 pick.  It continues with having a good draft.  It continues with having good free agent pick ups.  I don't care what coaches we have, you need talent to succeed.

I do like DQ saying he will coach and the FO will acquire the talent.

 

I think there could be immediate improvement just based on guys finally being coached and utilized properly. But I'm thinking more like going from 4 to 7-8 wins. The talent infusion will take time to get to the really good results.

Well, I'm sold. I can see why the players respond to Quinn.

I'm still nervous about the Kingsbury hire, but I'll give it a chance.

I think Josh could have done it, even as a new owner. However, it gives off the vibe of a guy who thinks entirely too much of himself without the experience to support it.

I don't know enough about him to have an educated opinion about whether that's actually the case, but a rookie HC is always a risk. He obviously wanted to be in Seattle, and he's in Seattle. Case closed, I guess.

I didn’t like the process going sideways and how we ended up with Quinn but Quinn is so superior to Morris. He’s a legitimate football coach. I don’t think Morris is. Regardless, Quinn is the man now and I’m behind it and will give the guy full support and a chance. If we hit on the QB, this is going to be a fun ride. 

I did say "comparable", not "the same". They're both experienced head coaches and widely lauded as leaders. Their resumes were the most comparable in this hiring cycle, from my perspective. I agree with you that I think we got the better guy, but I don't have quite as strong an opinion of it as you do. 

My larger point is that Morris was the one credible "off-ramp" the Commanders had to go in a different direction than they did. I don't know if you got that out of my post.

From that article, here's one place where Adam and Josh had a clear, viable alternate direction to go:

The Commanders could have short-circuited their process the way the Falcons did and just gone with Raheem Morris, if I'm reading this correctly. Morris and Quinn seem like comparable candidates in this hiring cycle, and it'll be interesting to see how their tenures compare over the next few years. Morris starts with a better roster (apart from QB).

Otherwise, I can't find anything the Commanders reasonably could have done differently.

A bit of commonality between Quinn and Kingsbury: talented, experienced guys who have a lot to prove. No training wheels needed here.

The risk, of course, is a repeat of their past performances as HCs.

With Wright, I'd mostly want to know how he's done since Josh bought the team. We haven't heard much from or about him since then, which is how it should be in a normal non-Snyder organization.

The timing is unfortunate coming up on Super Bowl week. It's possible the league doesn't want hiring stories overtaking weekend SB promo. Announcing it on a Monday/Tuesday media deadzone would help alleviate that.

Or, maybe they're still finalizing the contract language. Could be a number of things. Quinn would be working on assembling the staff the minute he agreed in principle.

It's official when Quinn signs on the dotted line. We don't know if that's happened yet. Doesn't matter if it's been publicly announced or not. They may want to announce Quinn and the coordinators as a package deal, but the PR aspect isn't relevant to anything except the media.

I'm not sure how I feel about Kingsbury. I recall his tenure in Arizona being rather underwhelming and drama-filled, but I don't know how much of that was Kyler or just the general atmosphere of failure that has surrounded the Cardinals since 1948.
