  1. Dowd will bring a nice return. Not sure about a #1 but it's not out of the question. He's one of the best 4th liners in the NHL. Dominant in the D zone, plays C and wins faceoffs, kills penalties, scores every now and then, has another year left on a great contract.

Definitely need to move Mantha as well. He's never played "bad" imo, but he's not worth anywhere close to the 5.7 million he gets. He makes nearly as much as Oshie and more than Wilson. Even in his wildest dream he's no (healthy) TJ Oshie or Tom Wilson.

  2. I think Ovi lost his piss when his pops died. Hasn't been the same since. I also think Carbery's system isn't working for Ovi. He's always been a transition goal scorer 5v5. Now, every time he/they enter the zone they wrap the boards. Not sure if it's lack of speed or lack of a play maker on his line, but wrapping the boards and trying to forecheck their way into goals has rarely been successful.

  3. Kuemper is either fire or ice. Glad he was on fire last night! Somehow, someway the need to figure out the goal scoring. Just too many chances w/nothing to show for it this year. The Pacioretty/Strome/Oshie line was looking real good. Just need 3 goals a night and we'll have a chance!!

  4. Yep, Darcy goes down too early, quite often. Should of made at least 2 of those saves. Then we can't score so it really doesn't matter. Young guys who can skate but have mid skills is what we're stuck with. Carbery can arrange the lines any way he wants, but we can't overcome all the talent and salary we have on the books, who can no longer pull weight. I haven't looked at the stats, but I imagine we're 50ish goals behind what we could/should have?

Also worth noting that a player must be deemed fit to play in order to qualify for a buyout.  But let's say whomever we want to buy out is deemed fit and we go with the buyout.  It only saves a third of their cost, leaving the remaining 2/3s of the cap hit on the roster, meanwhile LTIR gives you use of their entire cap hit.

Yeah, lots of avenues to navigate. It'd be a real pisser if he did buyout Nicky or Oshie. Save himself a few bucks but screw the team for an extra year.

  6. Im not even sure what reason there is to not tear it up, since with the current lineup, Ovi isn't doing anything anyway. Soon as Nicky stepped away all bets should of been off about a rebuild. Kuzy playing like dog ass has expedited that, imo. Strome isn't a play maker. They need a true 1c in a big way, or Ovi might as well plan on playing till he's 45.
