Yeah, I readily admit to being a homer when it comes to Heinicke, and there is a reason. Most of you have only seen glimpses of him on the field. Those of us who watched him for four years at Old Dominion know that he is indeed a baller who has "it", whatever "it" is. The fact that he completed 73% of his passes did not come as a surprise to those of us who know his background. He completed 67.7% while throwing for just under 15,000 yards during a four-year college career. In one game he threw for 730 yards (26 points in the fourth quarter) in order to pull out a 64-61 win. He is a very good quarterback with a superb competitive spirit, and he will bring significant numbers of wins to WFT if given the opportunity.

In the limited opportunities he's had so far, he's brought "it" and it's been fun to watch. The NFL has a long history of college QBs who had "it" at the college level of play but it hasn't translated to consistent success at NFL level.

Honestly, I won't care if the passes aren't pretty or pinpoint accurate if they keep on ending up in the hands of our receivers, the chains move and the points keep coming. It's a lot to ask at this much higher level of play though.

History is not on Heinicke's side, but it never is on the side of people who defy the odds to change the world. I'll stay grounded until Heinicke shows he can keep "it" at this level in spite of his perceived limitations though.

11 of 15 for 73% completion rate, and 119.3 passer rating is not accurate enough? With all due respect, get a grip.

    Ok, homer.

With all due respect completion rate and passer rating have nothing to do with accuracy. Ball placement and leading the receiver have everything to do with accuracy.

I rewatched some of the throws he made in the game. His short passes were accurate enough but his longer passes were not. The touchdown being a case in point, as well as the insane catch by McLaurin. The receivers did well to make those catches but he'll need to help them more to sustain a decent completion rate over the season. Herbert's accuracy was in a different league and frankly I watched on with envy.

Heinicke's accuracy was commented on by multiple observers during camp. Nobody said otherwise. It's a concern, whether you'll admit it or not. All things considered, I love the guy's moxy and I want him to succeed, the team needs that. I appreciate what he brought to the game and I think he'll always keep things interesting, but unless he puts  the ball in a better spot more often it's going to start having negative consequences.

We went over this a week or so ago but to me that performance was the sole result of not playing the starters in pre-season. They looked like they hadn't played together because they hadn't.

Can't agree with this. The Chargers' starters didn't play together at all during the pre-season and they executed much better, despite the new coaching staff. No excuse for not being able to build chemistry in training camp alone.

To me that performance is a result of an inconsistent team with lower level talent at key positions being outplayed by a likely superior team.

I don’t think many are saying the season is over. The general consensus seems to be, “wow did we suck. If we play like that again it’s going to be a long year. Good things it’s a short week to get this taste out of our mouths”.

That's about where I am, except for that last comment given recent history. We know Jones is an inconsistent QB, but if he has protection anything like Herbert did, he can and will take us apart.

On paper, the line should be able to generate pressure, but I think we all know that means nothing with this team. So I can't feel confident for this game, a loss would make the taste in my mouth a whole lot worse.

So sorry...I live alone in a house with stairs and I freak out all the time.  Hope you both come through it OK.

    Thanks.

Fortunately I have a very understanding wife and two helpful children. I'm relatively young, fit and healthy so I can manage stairs with a crutch and use a walking frame elsewhere. Certainly would need assistance if I were living alone!

Injuries at that joint are difficult in terms of healing, particularly if the blood supply there is affected. That's what can cause fracture repairs to fail and necessitates replacement. Hopefully Fitz won't have any significant damage there or a fracture. I'm less concerned about his ability to get on a football field again than I am the consequences of the injury to him as a person.

  6. Gutted for Fitz. Wasn't expecting miracles, but hoped he would add some dynamics to the offense even with the inevitable stretches of poor play.

I'm seriously sick of hip injuries right now. I suffered a neck of femur fracture last month and am waiting to see how my recovery is going post surgery. Found out this weekend that a good friend of mine has done the same. Unusual given we're 40 or younger. Now our starting QB goes down with a subluxation. **** you, hips!

  7. Second the above post. People can  only talk about what a stunning catch it was because the pass itself was so awkward. You can tell from the trajectory as Heinicke releases it. If that was Herbert throwing the ball, Terry most likely catches it in stride, in space and who knows what happens from there.

I get that Heinicke brought life to the offense, but I worry that his limitations are going to get picked on (and for that matter picked off) over the course of a number of starts.

  8. Past few seasons I've lasted no more than a couple of games before deciding to instead to pick an interesting matchup on a Sunday (usually my second choice as Sky Sports pick my first, resulting in a 24 hour blackout). I'll watch Washington games after the event if it turns out to be worth the time investment.

I'll gladly accept that it's not the sign of a great fan, but the sheer frustration was making my Sunday evenings miserable. This way I maintain a much better mood and it's better for those around me. On the flip side, I find it harder to get as engrossed in a game featuring two teams I have no attachment to. I'm not proud of it, but I was pretty much done with the team in Gruden's last season. Rivera eventually encouraged me to at least give them a shot.

It's only week one, but I'm guessing this season is going to be much the same. I expect the giants to make us look stupid as usual in Thursday night. At least with the time difference I can wake up on Friday morning and make a choice.

Was he the guy persuading our fanbase (and me) that Haskins was the real deal heading into his second season?

    Maybe.

Not exactly a full on cheerleader for him in that article, but he might well have said a lot more on the topic elsewhere.

It's a cool story that the once slightly overbearing student with an opinion on everything on the NFL UK forum is now lead analyst for PFF. While I'd love for him to be correct on this occasion and I feel the team is definitely trending in the right direction, I do see this as a bit of a stretch.

I don't follow the guy, but his assertion that Fitzpatrick is good enough to get us to the championship game makes me think he hasn't changed at all, only he now hides behind next gen stats to justify his own opinions, which aren't really any more accurate than the average talking head that makes these bold assertions.

Rivera says they’ll create a gameplan for next Saturday against the ravens and it’ll be like a regular season practice week leading up to the game. Should have a good barometer of where the team is (mainly the offense) after next weekend

I think Rivera had stated as much previously and based on production so far I'm keen to see what comes of this. Lack of any touchdowns from the starting unit is a concern but if they manage to put up a couple against the Ravens (depending on playing time) I'll feel a bit more confident about them going forward.

We know they should be better than in  recent years, but yet to see any real indication of that outside of practice.

  12. Final scorelines don't tell you much in the preseason, that much is for sure. I don't think anybody thinks the chiefs are going to score as few as 17 points in many games this season as a good example. It is, however, definitely concerning not to have the starting offense score a single touchdown in 6 or so series.

I seem to remember in preseasons past that a lack of production from the starting offense in these games has been indicative of sub par offensive performance in-season. This is purely based on memory, so I could be wrong. I do seem to recall this being an issue in preseasons past and I don't think we've seen a half decent offense since 2015. I hope I'm wrong and one thing for sure is that I'm not pessimistic about the season because of this. Definitely think it's going to be a mixed bag type of year again though.

Feeling we're all going to be let down...

Well, it's best not to count your chickens before they're hatched, but these most recent tweets are the first I can recall seeing suggesting an ownership change as a potential fallout from this. They're still the ones to state that, but so far the only punishment I can recall being referenced is confirmation it won't result in a loss of picks etc.

    The anticipation is mounting...

Question:  Didn't Boris get voted to PM with the support of the conservative party (similar to how our speaker of the house is selected)?  So shouldn't they have had a good idea what he was going to do when they picked him?

Boris won the leadership contest (series of votes amongst their MPs whittling down by at least 1 candidate at a time until only two remain, then the full party membership vote between those two). Boris was always the front runner and something of the charismatic Brexit poster boy for the party.

For all his exuberant proclamations and fist pumping, he declined to mention his intentions to suspend parliament, possibly with the intention of forcing through a no-deal and expelling party members, irrespective of how important they are, who would stand in his way. Unsurprisingly.

Whilst being prepared to walk away is part of negotiating 101, when the other side has every reason to believe that they will come out of it the better off substantially if you do, then there's no reason not to call the bluff.

In spite of the denial of the brexiteers, a no-deal outcome will cause significant disruption to the UK. Boris and his supporters are clearly being dismissive of the potential extent of disruption and although nobody truly knows what will happen until it does, if it does. This includes downplaying impact reports prepared by experts. But realistically, even the best disaster management plans aren't sustainable for a prolonged period of time and are a massive drain on resources, so it's a matter of how long it takes to fix the mess and the consequences of the disruptive period that leaves people like myself unable to support a complete cutting of ties.

But then how does one fix the problem? Overturning the referendum result is potentially very damaging towards those who voted to leave. Leaving without a deal is potentially so damaging to the UK that lifelong conservatives have stood up to their leader in spite of the consequences. But any compromise with the EU is never going to be offer the spectrum of benefits of full membership.

Seriously, they're gonna waste all but a few weeks of the extension because the Brexit extremists refused to vote for their previous Prime Minister's exit deal.

Not really. One of the few things in this whole debacle that has united a large group of people with varying opinions in both sides is that it was a terrible deal.

What is risking wasting the extension is the length of time taken to vote for a new leader of the Conservatives, then the insistence on continuing with recess and party conferences. No apparent sense of urgency whatsoever. Considering the importance of the issue, they should be working on emergency timelines, with recess and conferences scrapped, or at least significantly scaled down.

Of course, the fact the referendum was held in the first place with no clear leader and defined plan for a Brexit strategy is borderline criminal.

Last time I did that, we lost to the Eagles and Colt McCoy was injured. Giving me tons of articles to post in the morning...

I don't know why, but I feel like I'll have twice more to do tomorrow morning because Dan will have gone on Rampage and cut everyone... And named Ben Kotwica interim HC...

So, you disappointed as I am that we've not woken up to this scenario?

I'm disappointed nobody has been fired yet after that ****show.

Snyder needs to go on a maniacal rampage through the building, firing everyone in sight, then firing himself out of a cannon and into the nearest brick wall.
