All due respect, nobody wants this.  They'll have to pull this off in the pitch-black with no support.

No, what seems like a significant chunk of the fanbase doesn't want this. It isn't what I wanted. As fans, we have every right to feel that way after 30 plus years of mediocrity. A sudden end to that and return to success is something we've all been hoping/dreaming/praying for. But it's just not that easy to get it right and right first time. If it was, there wouldn't be perennial losers.

The only way this goes "pitch-black with no support" is if Quinn assembles sub-par team underneath him and Peters fails to recreate the success he's had with personnel in the past. None of that has started to take shape yet and we can expect missteps along the way.

Maybe they've already taken the first of those and already started off on the wrong track. But we don't know that any of the other candidates would have had better success here. We can follow their fortunes and envy those who are successful, but there's no guarantee they would have had the same success here. Each hire has walked into a different set of circumstances and their success will as much be determined by the people who surround them as the individual.

This is 98% about roster construction, and Quinn isn't the final or sole voice on that.

Belichick isn't in the HOF without Brady. Kid Shanahan isn't in the SB next week with Trey Lance or Jimmy G. Reid is still the "lovable loser" he was in Philly without Mahomes. And it's not just QBs, either. Dungy and Payton probably have several more rings if the rest of the Colts' roster had been better.

There are just too many moving parts involved to say that Quinn is "another Rivera" or that we'll get a repeat of what happened in Atlanta.

Disappointed this post didn't get any reaction at all, but this is somewhat how I feel.

A football team is a vast and complex ecosystem and no one element of it alone will dictate success (OK, a top talent at quarterback covers a multitude of failings elsewhere, that much we've seen).

If Quinn puts together a top staff and Peters stacks the roster with talent over the next few seasons, then winning seasons will come. Maybe Quinn doesn't give the team that edge to beat the other big contenders. Maybe he's learned valuable lessons since Atlanta and is a better version of himself. Who knows?

What he does bring is the maturity and experience to see a franchise in transition through its first years under new ownership. If he doesn't succeed? Well, hopefully by then the team will have the promise of better facilities and a better stadium with which to lure candidates.

I'm not sure, I'm not interviewing.

I'd like to see Slowik get more of a shake but there has to be a reason he's not, right?

Yeah, I'm not the speculative type either. We really don't have any idea what goes on behind closed doors. Doesn't feel like we're fighting for scraps yet, but this is a blow to the excitement and hope of the start of the Harris era.

Nothing is guaranteed, however. Whoever they pick might excel. Johnson may never amount to anything. Just has to play out. now.

Well, the caveat is we need a qualified guy to be the HC. If they don't think the O guys are qualified (or there are no O guys qualifed they can reach out to) they have to hire the best candidate. But it feels like we're going to be skimming the pool for debris a little now.

Who from the pool of new HCs would you have taken over who is left?

It’s less the decision than the timing. F him for that.

Completely agree. I get being caught up in the passion of a downtrodden city that has been starved of success. But he could've got that here, too. If he didn't give an indication in his interviews that he might do this, it's even more frustrating.

Still, there are candidates left and I will withhold judgement until I see the results on the field.

So I suspect that the situation with Peters and Cunningham was kind of similar. We know that other teams requested interviews, but don't know that they ever entertained the offers. Given both turned down other teams, seems they were only tempted out of their current roles for this one opportunity. McClay, on the other hand, was happy staying put all along.

Getting the interest of two out of those three, though...What a turnaround!

  7. Theoretically, this could have a beneficial effect on the defense. If the scheme Del Rio was running wasn't working due to communication failures, stripping everything down to basics and building from there could be more effective.

Doubt that's the approach they take though. Couple that with the personnel and the upcoming opposition, I doubt we'll see much difference.

So all in all an empty gesture.

  8. Didn't have problems with the stream, but don't like not having the option to start straight from the beginning. Goes to live feed, so I have to pause and manually rewind without looking at the screen to avoid seeing the score. Such a simple and obvious thing to offer.

Yeah that's how I use it. Watched all the pre-season games that way. Would have been nice to be able to download the app on the tv but that doesn't seem to be an option. I'm not getting ads but the stupid frozen screen they use instead is more annoying I think. I hope you've found the option to turn off the game scores now and I see there is a literal spoilers option at the bottom which needs to be off.

What's with the stats screen that's suddenly appeared though? That's going to give the scores away, what are they thinking?! I'm guessing that's what you were referring to.

Tried seeing if things were any better on the tablet than phone, but not really. I've not long moved and at some point I suspect I'll get a smart TV and put the old one in the children's play room. Current one must be about 13 years old, but it works fine and I've never been one for throwing stuff out that works. Seems some, but not all, smart TVs can get the app. Meanwhile, my best solution turns out to be to use my son's xbox, better app on there and I can skip/ffwd using the controller.

Stats screen would be what I was referring to. As soon as I saw stats, I figured it would have the score there, so blocked it out until I had full screen on. Maybe not, but still high spoiler risk. I did see the spoiler setting, but thankfully it was already set to off.

Anybody had experience with starting a live game in progress from the beginning? I typically don't get to sit down until 7-7.30 to watch on a Sunday. While not perfect, it did the job fine on the old app.

I tried to get tickets for the Bils game and on Thursday was put in a virtual waiting room. At 12pm they allocated everyone a random place in the queue. I was given number 326,459. I whatsApped my mate who was also trying and he said that I was about 70,000 in front of him. Suffice to say, neither of us got any

There I was bemoaning my luck for being #91,174 in the queue. Not really a lot of difference in outcome between that and 326,459 though!

  11. So, how did you guys get on with last night's game?

Friday evening viewing for me so not the live game. Major grievances were, starting with the setup of mobile app casting to TV via chromecast:

    1. DAZN assumes I want to watch a 5 minute highlight reel. Took me a little while to work out how to watch the full game.

    2. Day after broadcast retains adverts and all. So have a choice between 5 minute highlight reel, 40 minute condensed version (OK in a pinch, but always felt like something was missing for me), or 4.5 hour broadcast. With the old app, I'd get the full game, trimmed to a 2-2.5 hour broadcast

    3. App seems very sensitive, was very easy to completely shut down the stream, having to start again.

    4. With this setup, could only jump backwards in the broadcast using an on-screen button, not forwards. I could jump forwards using the time bar, but on a phone the accuracy is so poor that skipping a 2 minute commercial break is near on impossible.

Gave up with that setup and used a laptop connected to TV via hdmi cable. Easier to control, with 30s time jumps in both directions. However, DAZN assumes I want the box score and game stats and quite happily displays these prominently on the screen. Complete PITA trying to switch from 5 minute highlight to full game without giving away the outcome of the game, but I managed.

Once in full screen with this setup it was a significantly improved experience, although not smooth at times. Easy enough to control, but would rather not have to navigate the adverts myself on a completed game one day later when I didn't used to have this inconvenience.

I'll explore other options for setup and  there are probably ways to change the settings to avoid unwanted spoilers. But first impression: really not pleased.
