  1. I'm not saying that Floyd can do 2mil with any and every fighter no matter of their star power. But what I am saying is that there is a reason everybody wants to fight Floyd and most times it's not because they truly believe they can win. But more so because it will guarantee them their highest payday. Fighters are only guaranteed career high purses because of the amount of money the fight itself will generate.

If you compare the numbers of any other ppv fighter to Mayweather's, they pale in comparison. You mention Tim Bradley.. what were Pacquiao's numbers with Bradley?? Do you think if Floyd fought Bradley he wouldn't top those numbers??

  2. You know what I'm talking about. Alverez/Mosley was a co-feature on one of his cards. Two fighters with a built-in fan base. And I often wonder just how much a Mayweather PPV would do if he wasn't fighting a Mexican or a Puerto Rican fighter. And know as well as I do, they're probably the most passionate fans there is.

No one's debating whether Mayweather is the biggest draw, but I think his drawing power is a bit overrated. Let him fight Second Alexander or Tim Bradley and see just how much he draws.

Mayweather generally does good numbers with anybody he fights. Look at his numbers for Mosely, Judah, or even Sharmba Mitchell. Yes these fighters already have a "built-in" fanbase but that's because Floyd isn't normally fighting "no-name" fighters.

  3. Gonzalez just derailed some major plans. I'm sure GBP is still in shock. But I think Abner Mares has been kind of getting a few gifts from the judges these past couple years. Golden Boy did a nice job building him up and unless he immediately avenges that brutal L he just took, this is a huge setback for Mares.

  4.

I don't blame Bradley. If what he says is true, they agreed to have VADA and the USADA handle the testing, not the Nevada Athletic Commission who can't be trusted.

Bradley says it has to be VADA or USADA. Marquez says let's role with USADA. I think problem solved...

But did they agree to both? If so, Bradley is right. According to the article, Arum.just wants the Nevada State Athletic Commission to handle it.

The contract vaguely states "and/or" which means one or both. But what I think everybody agrees on is that trying to get the NSAC to handle testing procedures of any sort is a damn joke. Like i said, I don't know what Arum is up to but I'm sure he has a motive here.

  6. Can't blame Bradley for that, I'd be shocked if Marquez was clean.

All these people want to.grandstand about steroids in sports, I wonder where's all the outrage over Marquez's late career transformation? Anybody who don't think he was juicing for the Pacquiao fight needs their head examined.

    http://www.boxingscene.com/juan-manuel-marquez-timothy-bradley-showing-his-fear--68286

Marquez says he's down with OSDT and Bradley is scared. Could be anothr one of Bob Arum's crooked schemes or just trying to draw extra pub to the fight that everybody seems to have forgotten about since "The One" actually stole their date.

  7. Can't blame Bradley for that, I'd be shocked if Marquez was clean.

The last two fights against Pac, he looked to have more muscle mass than usual and a lot more power on his shots. (Hence the reason Pac is just now waking up). Also very suspect that Marquez been working with Angel Heredia the last few fights. I just don't know. Its tough to call w/o some kind of insider knowledge.

But what I will say is Bradley hasn't really shown me anything to suggest he can beat JuanMa in 12. The Pac fight was an utter disappointment and shameful to the entire sport. Then, in his next fight he faced Provodnikov and earned back a little of the respect I had lost for him. But with or without PEDs, taking into consideration their styles, I think JuanMa beats Bradley by decision with or without PEDs.

    vegeta613:

Rigondeaux took zero risk against Donaire and Im sorry but fighting a one tap and go style looking for a decision victory at the start of the fight is not going to win you any fans

Sorry bro but I'm sure Floyd Mayweather, as the highest grossing fighter ever in the history of the sport, would adamantly disagree with that statement.

  8. Exactly. and while Rocky undoubtedly goes in the Instant Classic category for movies, it really didn't capture the art of the "sweet science" so to speak. He would always take a beating and come back to deliver one in return. That's not always what boxing is gonna be about. Not all boxers choose to take punishment just to make fights exciting. Boxing clinics like the one Rigo put on Donaire is excitement enough for me and a lot of other boxing fans.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching all-out Brawls like im sure all other fans do as well. But just as much as I love and appreciate an offensive fighter or brawler, I also have great love and appreciation for a defensive minded/technical fighter.

  9. dude you watched the Donaire, Rigondeaux fight right?  Where Rigondeaux only threw one light pitty pat punch at a time and ran away as the crowd booed him out of the building?  Love boxing but his style is beyond boring.

Rigondeaux took Donaire to school that night. That was nothing short of a boxing lesson. Just because he doesn't put on a Figueroa-Awarkawa every time out and doesn't take endless punishment, def shouldn't put him in the "boring" category. But I guess if you're looking for action-packed brawls with little to no defense than Rigo is not your guy.

So do you think Ward, Marquez and Mayweather too are like watching paint dry?

  10. It sucks that HBO is treating Rigo this way. He's one of my favs right now and would def be top ten on my personal p4p list. In addition to Mayweather, Ward, and Rigo, I would also have to add Marquez to that list of technical fighters. I love the way these guys fight!! It's a shame that casual fans don't appreciate the sweet science these days. People would much rather see a come-forward style like Pacquiao's. But the thing about that is normally a boxer with that style has poor defensive skills (like Manny) and they are more likely to end up having life-long health issues post retirement. People seem to have forgotten that the main object in the ring is to "Hit and Not Get Hit'... guarantees victory every time!! As a boxing purest and a HUGE fan of the sport, I love to watch skilled ring technicians at work.

Also if you take a look back, most times a top level "offensive" fighter was up against a top level "defensive" fighter, defense almost always gets the W

  11.

People in the know on twitter making it seem like Garcia vs. Matthysse will be co-main event for Floyd/Canelo

if that is the case, they can charge me whatever they like

Man, I hope this happens. I was under the impression that Garcia was seriously considering fighting Judah again.

I heard that talk as well, but I'm going to give Garcia the benefit of the doubt. If Garcia fights Judah again, he might as well come to the ring in a chicken suit.

Garcia is making a LOT of excuses to try to get out of this fight. He's talking about drug testing, fight location, and even Mattysse's training location. All seem to "all of a sudden" be problems for Garcia. I doubt he really wants this fight. Probably feels more pressured into it than actually feeling like he's "ready" for it.

  12. This is ridiculous.

Price high to low: Some of them are 20-30 THOUSAND/ea

The press for this fight is beyond what I expected. The pre fight promo tour is drawing huge crowds at ever stop. This fight might challenge Mayweather/De La Hoya in ppv buys.

Yes the Promo is crazy. I went to the Press Tour last Tues when it came to DC. The fight has already broken two records including the record for Live Gate revenue; plus it will more than likely get the Closed Circuit record as well. As far as PPV i can see it happening. I'm only a little skeptical about it because things that have changed between 2007 and now. A lot of people dont even purchase the fights now but instead choose to do free live streaming. Plus the price of PPV has went up about $5-$15 depending if you watch in HD.

It's like a singer/rapper trying to go triple platinum. Possible but much more difficult today as opposed to years back.

  13. Dangerous fight for anybody between 160-168 not named Andre Ward.

can't imagine how that body shot must've felt

Golovkin is a damn savage, that power is scary. 160 is thin, only an aging Sergio  & Kid Chocolate to deal with, Golovkin could rule for a while.

GGG can beat Quillin and Sergio. Sadly he will have to step up to 68 before he's actually ready. Which could spell trouble. They'll toss him a confidence booster like Kessler or Bute then feed him to the wolves against Ward.

Golovkin stays active which is always a plus to keep his skills sharp and he's only getting better. Since Sergio is rehabbing injuries, I wounder who his next opponent will be. I'll be he fights again this year, probably in the fall.

  14. Adrien Broner: "I don't want to have to be the guy to give Mayweather his first loss"

This is only a 3min excerpt from a long interview Broner gave after a sparring session just before the Malignaggi fight. Really don't know if to take him serious or just laugh. The full interview is just as telling.

  15. I forgot just how young Mayweather was there so I stand corrected.

Riggo is good no one really heard of him until he beat Donair who IMO is overrated. I think Broner has better D.

I have been a HUGE rigondeuax fan even before the Donaire fight. Actually, I won a lot of money on that fight. I've always felt Donaire was a little overrated... and he got thoroughly exposed by Rogondeuax.

When it comes to defense, Broner allows far too much punishment to his body. Head movement is great but he still gets hit a lot to even mention him in the same category as Floyd. If I had to pick a second, Rigondeuax would definitely be next on the list. Honestly, I'm not ready to say that Broner even has better defensive abilities than Juan Manuel Marquez so far in his career as yet.

  16. So just for some possibilities/scenarios assuming Broner beats Maidana:

Broner could face Maidana late Oct/early Nov.

    1) Broner gets Garcia-Mattysse winner in April (or maybe Cinco de Mayo undercard if Floyd chooses that date for fight 3 of 6)

    2) Broner gets Alexander-Khan winner in May/June (assuming the winner isn't penciled in for Floyd's next fight)

    3) Judah/Mosely/Ortiz/Guerrero

    4) GB and TR kiss & make-up then we get a laundry list of possibilities

    5) ????...........

  17.

Didn't Floyd kick Errol out of the gym for that? When everyone who was said to be there was asked about it, everyone played dumb.

He did but he didn't. After it happened he put him out. Then a few min later he told him he could stay.

  18. There were some rumors a little while back that Broner got KO'ed by Errol Spence in sparring. Broner denied it happened. Broner can be hit,so I wouldn't mind seeing him against Maidana. Maidana would hit him, but will get outboxed like he did against Khan. As far as Broner maturing, he's gonna have to have a life changing event to get him to grow up. If it ever happens. Possibly something outside of the ring or a humiliating KO loss. The guy is talented, but still a loser.

Errol got him with a good shot and knocked him down, not KO'd. Errol is also responsible for Floyd's black eye before his last fight. But yes Broner can definitely be hit. He doesn't take a lot of punishment above the neck but his body is there to bash away. He just needs to learn that you can wear a fighter down a lot faster by making them swing at the air as opposed to blocking all their shots.

I do think Maidana-Broner would be a good fight. But you're right about Maidana being outboxed because that is exctly how the fight will play out. Broner probably should go down to 140 where all the "names" are.

On a side note: I would LOVE to see Broner get the winner Marquez-Bradley!! (Hey, dreaming isn't a crime yet)
