My foundation of belief suffered a crack this evening.
Devastating loss.
You’ll recover. You’ve been here before. It will get better…I promise you this team will win 5 more games. And we’ll exist in perpetual mediocrity

I haven't used the Sad reaction in a gameday thread this much in a long time...
That’s because ES didn’t have a sad emoji option when Sherman Lewis was calling offensive plays in 2009….Thankfully. It could be worse

So who are some DC replacements for Jack@ss Del Rio?! Our LB's are garbage(that's on the GM), but JDR has not schemed good enough with the D talent we do have. Or will it not matter as long RR is here?
Let’s check the local nursing homes for “bingo callers.” That’s worked before- 1

This will be Ron Riveras signature game as the coach of this franchise.
I will always remember this game
What game? Thursday night against the Bears?we won 12-7…. Carson Wentz was fantastic

So one decent defensive play makes our defense average? Are you by chance a manager somewhere? And are you hiring? Because it sounds like you’re a great guy to work for.
I’m a manger at Applebees, and I take my job seriously.
…. though, yes, we are hiring. If you can deliver a sizzler platter to a table at the same comparative speed Jamin Davis can deliver his status as a first round bust/ wasted draft pick… then you have a job

The ghost of Jim Zorn haunts the unhallowed halls every time the maroon and black uniforms are dragged out of the closet.
At least Jim Zorn made 4th down play’s interesting… fond memories of the “Swinging Gate” call, against the Giantsgood ole days

Passable? Average? Benign? Mediocre? So far this season they have been more along the lines of, “we think there are 11 players in full uniform on the field for the Commanders… but we need to review the tape.”
And the “tape” showed Jamin Davis running fast toward the sideline, forcing a fumble against the Bronco’s. That’s our first round pickTape doesn’t lie

Other teams do it. I’m not sure why it’s hard. It’s only hard if you’re coach is an idiot.
Jim Zorn was an idiot( though, comically lovable)Rivera is coaching like a person whose end is near…

I’m sorry… the defense is what now?
Mediocre? Average? Benign? Passable? Exist?I imagine, with time and an more games, the defense will revert back to the median.

Nah. You tap out if you can’t win and live to play another day. Teams do it all the time. Why get somebody hurt when there’s no chance of winning. Obviously, if the playoffs, you don’t do that, but it’s October. It’s fine, there were 2 min left in the game, just end it already.
Again, that’s the right answer. But it’s difficult to accept the idea( mostly from a fan’s perspective) that the starting LT basically concedes, and has little interest in playing out the game to its end.
Logically sensible. Emotionally, difficult.

Sweet. I can’t wait until our “vaunted” dline consisting of first round studs…. Show up to play.
This narrative is tiring. The defense is average. The Dline is infuriatingly average, despite their draft position.

Pretty certain its been said many times
It is time to fire Ron and Jack. Give EB the reigns, see what he does in a season long try out
This team isn't winning with Ron as HC
EB can barely handle playcalling duties. You want him to take on more responsibility, as an interim Head Coach?
-
Defense lost the game. The Bears offensive game plan, early on, was literally have the receivers run straight lines, and then throw it to them. Schematically, very rudimentary. I’m not entirely sure why those routes were that difficult to defend.
DJ Moore…. Is pretty good. DJ Moore indefensible? Doubt it. Shockingly bad secondary play.

That’s on Ron. After the last TD he should have pulled the starters and run the clock. They’re not scoring 17 in 3 minutes.
that’s likely the sensible response. But the optics of pulling starters because you’re losing badly, is detrimental, psychologically.
The idea is you replace starters because the team is winning big. Not losing…

I do understand the concept of having 4 first round DLineman… but, I do wish JDR would mix in some blitz more frequently. At lesser crest some confusion on the opposing Oline.

Think Dotsons game is more down field...still needs to make those underneath lpays when there though.
I would say his game is more intermediate- he’s not a burner down the field, but he’s smooth and fluid running routes 10-15 yards down the field.- 1

Sigh… Dotson, pretty reliable hands. That was a big drop, though.

I can’t believe Hurts held onto the ball that long on a 3rd and 3. Still, glad Payne and Young eventually got some pressure

That "great" defense didn't do its job, but the offense was so bad a Div 3 football team could have beat them today
But as a team you have to hold folks accountable, I would cut him and I would sit Chase next game for his awful play this game.
I don’t put much credence into “taking accountability” bull**** platitudes.I’m more supportive of “taking accountability” in winning the game. And this “game” is played once every 7 days. Limited time frame.
I ascribe to the philosophy of winning the game. And to do that, you need your best players on the field- because we only have one shot at that concept, a week.
Gibson’s fumble didn’t lose us the game today. He’s too valuable, to cut.

Gibson needs to be cut. Limited plays and 2 fumbles. He won't be on the roster next year, better to have the rookie playing
Respectfully, I disagree.
His value as a potentially explosive playmaker, in a league where explosive plays are imperative to success, supersedes, his detriment at holding on to the ball.
This team, offensively, gains little, and loses more, if we cut him.

Ok. We probably can’t do Jack Diddly Poo about the construction of the OL right now.
But what we can do is cut Gibson.
And what we should do is cut Gibson.
And not because he’s a scape goat.
Because you can’t trust him to be on the field and hold onto the ball. Ergo you can’t play him. Ergo there is no reason for him to be on the team.
Sorry dude.
Bring back one of the other backs. It’s unfortunate. Because he has a unique skill set.
But you can’t have the turnovers from a 4th year RB. You can live with mistakes from a developing QB.
He needs gone now.
Gibson still remains one of the most legitimate playmakers, on this team. There’s plenty of data to support that. However, there is also plenty of data supporting the idea that Gibson, commits costly turnovers. Difficult conundrum.
Chris Rodriguez, takes that screen call, doesn’t fumble, and gets tackled 3 yards in the backfield. Certainly better than a turnover.
…. But, Chris Rodriguez, doesn’t measure up to Gibson, in terms of the potential for an explosive play. This offense, needs to maximize potentially “explosive” plays. Especially in this league, against teams like the Bills. We won’t win grinding it out, punting and playing field position( despite the collective thought to how “elite” our defense is)You keep Gibson. His potential value, supersedes his fumbling issues.
Just my opinion

Pressured on 80% of drop backs. That’s unacceptable.
Oline and offensive coaches need to get their asses handed to them on Monday. Film review will be ugly.
Sam had a couple on him, at least one was on Robinson and we missed Thomas on chips. But list of this falls on the O’line and to some extent a failure to protect both the O’line and Sam via play calling.
Agreed. Time to max protect Sam, when this team wants to throw.
Yes, I realize that limits some “duplicity” in playcalling. But, perhaps its time to simplify some concepts, to avoid the performance today.

Run some more outside zone and let’s see some waggle play action of it to some easy high low half field reads. Get Sam off the spot 7 yards behind center - because that’s where the defense are meeting right now.
What happened to the screen game today as well. Let get some of that in to slow the pass rush.
And why not max protect him, when the inclination, play call wise, is to throw down the field? From what I’ve seen, 5 man protection schemes, with a RB addressing the pressure, hasn’t worked.
Stack the line.

Game Day Thread ~ Commanders vs. Da Bears - Got Mauled By The Bears!!!
in The Stadium
Posted
I can confirm to you, that you and I were both posting and crying, on this lovely message board back in 2009.
Somewhat incredible to comprehend, that this fanbase has been suffering for 14+ years. This game day thread(2023) looks and feels the exact same, as the game day threads from 2008-2009. The exact same.
Happy Birthday to your Dad. I suppose the best gift, is that Dan Snyder is no longer in control. Lets hope Harris is, at the very least, marginally better
