  1. I'm not seeing a team who deserves to be in the playoffs. Aside from some good stretches against the Bruins on Saturday, this club has been very disappointing since their emotional win 9 days ago versus Detroit.
  2. I hate labeling games as 'must-win' but tomorrow against Pittsburgh is probably one. Bubble teams who want to make the playoffs can't lose 4 games in a row at this point of the season.
  3. Buffalo is not a bad team - they've got a good young core and a lot of people were picking them to make the playoffs this year. But we need at least a point out of this one.
  4. With awesome seats like that, I'm surprised you didn't run into Biden, Taylor Swift, and Jeff Bezos!
  5. They were never going to win every game down the stretch. I'm not pissed with the loss - sorta expected it after the emotional win on Tuesday at home. Detroit and Philly both fell tonight, so we didn't lose any ground. But giving up 50 shots is concerning. If they don't tighten up defensively on Saturday against Boston, the Bruins are going to eat their lunches.
  6. I'm not a Leonsis apologist by any means, but comparisons to Snyder are nonsense. Danny took a legendary franchise with one of the most loyal fanbases in sports, and turned it all into dog **** (both on and off the field). Leonsis did the opposite - he bought a club that was a junior varsity operation it's entire 25 year existence, and turned it into one of the hottest tickets in town. For as good as a man as Abe Pollin seemed to be, he was a terrible owner of the Caps, and made very little effort to hide the fact they were nothing more than an investment for him. As a person, Ted seemed like a good guy the first several years he owned the club. Always meeting with fans on the concourse at every game, making himself fully accessible to the fans and media, and answering every email and every concern brought to him. As a longtime STH, I had several interactions with him at fan events and I was always impressed. He doesn't do this anymore, maybe because he doesn't have the time, or maybe because he really has changed over the years.
  7. Looks like the deal to move the Caps and Lizards to Alexandria is officially dead. Now Ted is at the mercy of the DC Council, at least until another VA or MD suitor comes calling.
  8. Meh, we've gotten plenty of them too. But I'm with you that we really need to catch the Flyers. After this rough season, I'll be grateful for any playoff berth. But if we want to do anything more than one-and-done, we need the 3rd seed in the Metro. Playing Carolina would be no easy task, but they're a lot more vulnerable than the Rangers or Bruins (the two teams we'd likely play with the 2nd wildcard). No way either Boston or New York loses in the first round again this year (as they did last year).
  9. Yeah, it's not often you see deadline sellers make a run. I think what saved us is this year was clearly a buyers market. If GMBM would've gotten a fair, solid offer for Lindgren and Dowd, both of them would be gone, and our season would've been over 2 weeks ago. Good on him for not giving them away for dog ****, which I'm sure is what he was offered.
  10. This team keeps answering the bell. Never expected them to be playing meaningful games into April. Proud of them, regardless of how things turn out the next couple weeks. What a rollercoaster night. Late in the 3rd both the Caps and the Rangers (vs. Philly) were winning, and then almost simultaneously the Wings and Flyers tied it up. Both teams ended up losing in OT. Sucks they each got a point, but it doesn't matter as long as we keep taking care of business.
  11. Really looking forward to tonight's game. This is going to be a true test of what this team is made of. If they come out flying and hitting, I like their chances. If they have a flat first period, and rely on Lindgren to keep their asses in it with 12 ten-bell saves, they don't deserve to be in the postseason, whether they squeak in or not.
  12. Would have to go back over 20 years (Olie Kolzig) to recall the last time a Caps goalie carried a team on his shoulders to make the playoffs. The rest of the club is playing great, and buying into Carbery's system. But let's be clear - without Chucky we're talking about a lottery pick right now, not a playoff spot. Can't wait for Tuesdays game vs. the Wings.
  13. I'm never happy when someone passes away, but I won't be sending flowers and a card this time.
  14. It seemed like an accident (I'm biased) but he's gotta be more careful with his stick. Deserves a game or two, but I'm hearing the possibility of 6 or more, which would be ridiculous. That big goofy jerkoff for the Rangers (Rempe) has been running players every night since he came into the league, and he finally got suspended after a blatant elbow to the head of Siegenthaler (who is still out 2 weeks later) and that was 4 games. Rielly from the Leafs was suspended for 5 games for cross checking a Senator in the face after the guy scored a goal, in a play that to me isn't much different from the Dale Hunter hit that people still talk about 30 years later. I get it that Willy is a repeat offender, but 6 or more games would be overkill, and would probably end our season.
  15. Completely agree. For the first 2 periods I thought they matched up really well against a very talented Toronto team. Disappointed that the Leafs seemed to have more in the tank in the 3rd, even though they played last night and we were rested. No shame in losing to Toronto after 3 hard fought victories on the road. But they absolutely have to win at least one of their two games this weekend versus Carolina and Winnipeg, and it won't be easy.
  16. They've given up 3 f'ing goals tonight in the first or last minute of a period 😡
  17. Oh that trio, along with Tinordi and Witt, were great. We weren't the most talented team, but nobody wanted to play against us. Simon was at one point a top-5 heavyweight in the league, but when he came to the Caps he could just never stay healthy. Then he had that ridiculous season where he scored 29 goals to lead the team, decided to cash in by holding out for a bigger contract, and missed all of training camp. As soon as he came back, he messed up his shoulder and was never the same player. To his credit, he would still answer the bell against other enforcers. But he went from pounding guys, to just hoping he could hold his own (and a lot of times he couldn't). When Stephen Peat emerged as our tough guy, Simon became expendable.
  18. RIP Chris Simon. Before the injuries started piling up, you were one scary mother f-er who gave us some good years. Keep your hair long in the afterlife.
  19. Great game so far. After getting our teeth kicked in vs. Edmonton last week, none of us thought the rest of the road trip would go like this. They've got a brutal schedule to close out the season, but they're playing a lock-down defensive style that can neutralize superior offenses, and is very conducive to playoff hockey. I said this team was dead in the water in January. Glad they proved me wrong.
  20. As lousy as this season has been on so many different levels, I can't believe we're in control of our playoff destiny with 4 weeks left. We took care of business with two huge wins, including taking a game in Vancouver that no Caps fan outside of a psych ward had any thought of us winning, and just about every team we're fighting with lost their games. 1 point behind the last wild card, with 2 games in hand. Crazy times.
  21. Inflating expected revenue is par for the course for anyone pitching a project which requires funding. I wouldn't read too much into it. The $75 parking will be for the bloated fat cats who park right next to the stadium (probably close to what parking costs now in the garage right under Capital One Arena), and there will be a garage a block down the road which will charge half that. The $731 hotel room will be for the penthouse suite with a butler and private plunge pool. The rest of the rooms will be available on Expedia for $150 on non-game nights.
  22. And to kick someone when they're already down, Connor Brown just scored his first goal in 2 years. This is the guy we traded this year's 2nd round pick for, all so he could play 4 games for us last year before getting hurt. Nicely done, GMBM.
  23. For the second game, we're getting exposed as average by a better team. The only way we beat a club like the Oilers is if we outwork them on a night they don't play their best, or have one of our goalies stand on his head for 60 min, or just get lucky bounces. By the time we get back from this road trip, we'll likely be a mile outside of the playoff race and hopefully management can start focusing on what needs to be done next year.
  24. It's easy to get carried away with recent wins against teams like Philly, Pens, and the Hawks, but games like tonight show that we're just not on the same level as the real contenders. From the beginning of the game until the end, there was no question of who the better team was. We'll get there, but it's gonna take a couple years.
  25. Loving how awful Pittsburgh is this year. Unlike the Caps, who were simply hoping to squeeze a little more juice out of their aging core (wrong bet), the Pens went all in with the Karlsson trade. Now they're just a dumpster fire, and there are a ton of rumors circulating that Crosby may want out.
