Was he playing in the NFL?

He had a head injury against Alabama, by the way. Which… are hard to avoid when you take hits like he does.

Lots of guys get hurt in the NFL. If you are not satisfied with the pick then who should we have picked?

they don’t have to catch you if you willingly run into them like Wile E Coyote after he painted a tunnel on a wall

Look at the kids stats, he set records for passing and running. Did you really want DM? Look at his stats, same as Sam Howell.

  3. They didn’t listen to me when I said do not take Desmond Howard and they didn’t listen when I said do not take Chase Young or Forbes so they better listen now when I am saying do not take Maye. His stats look like Sams, the guy we just got rid of and he played for NC who is not exactly a football powerhouse. IMO he will be another Tanahill. JD is electric and he is the guy I want to watch every Sunday. The kid from Michigan just handed off and did not impress me. The kid from So Cal played in a weak league so he most likely looked better than he is. We are due to hit a home run with our 1st rd pick so go with the Heisman Trophy winner.

You just committed an entire year to Sam's growth and you're going to end it there? Why not build the roster and see how that impacts Sam's play? This kid is tough, durable and has an arm; maybe with some better coaching and experience he takes off? I'd hate to see another team benefit from Sam's potential the same as we have to watch all of our young coaches who got away be very successful across the league. It's one thing to throw all of your eggs in one basket and hope it works but wouldn't it be wise to keep Sam around to see how he plays out too while committing to the high draft pick? This worked out pretty well for the Niners with Montana and Young, Packers with Favre and Rodgers, Eagles with Wentz, Foles and Hurts. It's actually how the Eagles like to build their QB room....."We want to be a QB factory", Howie Roseman.

Daddy everything you are saying is true but a new GM, Coach, most likely will want to start out with their own QB pick instead of someone elses pick in this case RR.

Picking a QB later in round one is not giving Howell another year.  He'd be benched the first multi interception game that he has.

We need to get out of the QB desert mindset that this team has operated with for generations.  Good teams don't ****foot around with QB.  They pick a guy and form the QB-HC marriage and get to work.  Any more indecisiveness and half assed attempts to pick a QB are unacceptable.  Particularly when we might pick second overall in a historic QB class.

If we end up picking second, then the new regime needs to take advantage of this golden opportunity, pick Drake Maye, trade Howell, and start building up an offense around Maye.

Do you guys really think Maye is that much better than Sam? Is there a way to get the kid from USC? Only prob I have with either of these guys is they don’t play against top college teams in the country.

  6. If we get lucky enough to draft one of the top 2 QBs then you have to get one regardless of what you think of Sam. Just think if we went with Tua or Herbert instead of that generational talent Chase Young we would not be in the mess we are in today. Drafting a guy with the second overall pick and then trading him for a third. What a joke this franchise is. What is that old saying, “people that forget the past are doomed to repeat it”? If you get the chance pick the QB from UNC I believe he is from,  take him or trade the pick for multiple picks. Using a top 3 pick on a O lineman is dumb.

This game shows me two things

    1.  The biggest issue in the last 25 years has been the acquisition of talent - We have had no one that has built a good roster

    2.  This current team is not that not good.  The players are not that good.  We have had some bad coaches (Zorn, Spurrier, etc) - but the players have never been that good.  RR is not a bad coach, but he has no business building a roster.

Add poor drafting. You can’t take Chase Young when Tua was on the board. You can’t take a toothpick like Forbes when there is a stud like Gonzalez on the board, and the list goes on and on. Look at MIAMI Ron, they know how to build a team. You should do the Constanta method, Pick the opposite that you would have picked and you would have been better off.

There is no point in winning any more games this year. I hope they lose out. Play well but lose. It’s going to be a bunch of new players hopefully, new coaches, new front office so winning would just be useless.

Agree and is there any chance if we loose out can we get to the 3rd pick. Would love to get MH or a top QB. Maybe some team will give us some great picks to switch spots with us.

Oh. Sorry to hear that. Yeah, getting old sucks. I have to keep up with some of the new slangs my kids use these days. Good thing there is google lol

No complaints here about getting old. Saw the “little general” and Sonny play.  Charley Taylor and Larry Brown. I got to see Lombardi come to DC. The George Allen years were great with his over the hill gang and his winning percentage. Of course the super bowls were the best. Just would like a competitive team after 20 years of stink, think we deserve it. Cheers and happy holidays.

  10. Why would you guys want to fire Ron in mid season? I am under the impression that when a NFL coach gets fired he still gets paid so why pay him to play golf every day in sunny California? I say make him stay and finish the season so he can watch the disaster he has created. He can walk across the field at the end of every game and say congrats to all the coaches that do a better job than him for the next month and a half knowing he is getting canned when this mess of a season is over. Cheers and happy holidays.

Yeah.  I would think this is the best course of action if you can start interviewing early.  If not, I would keep status quo and try to lose out.

I also do not want us trading our two 2nd rounders to move up into the first round.  We need LOTS of talent, and a new, quality GM will see it the way as well.  Also, the analytics say to keep more picks.  I would think/hope that with a quality GM and scouting department installed before the draft, we can finally say goodbye to the annual flushing of our second round draft picks and actually use them going forward to acquire talented players that become a long-term asset to this team.

Trade, deal and do whatever you have to to get the best football players you can if it means moving up included. Quality instead of quantity. The Steelers moved up in the first round last year to take the last good LT on the board. Good teams know how to deal and we are not one of them. That’s the main reason we stunk for the last 20 years and teams like the Steelers were winners.

  12. I don’t want anyone fired at this point. I want to loose all the rest of our games and I think the staff we have now can do that.  I want a top 5 or 6 pick in the draft. I want the best LT in college football that is if you think Sam is your QB of the future. If he isn’t then move up to get a QB. I then want to trade our 2 second round picks to move up and get the best stud LG available. I want the Hogs revisited. I want to maul defenses with our line and protect the OB. I am sick of watching our OB running for his life. It is impossible to win if you cannot protect the QB in the NFL. We have enough receivers even if Harrison falls to us. Trade the pick if possible if we can still get our LT for the next 10 yrs. We did not get a good LT last year because we did not have brains enough to move up. We had a crap O line and we drafted secondary instead. Guess RR can’t figure out why he is going to get canned. The answer is look at the way you draft Ron. Cheers everyone an happy Thanksgiving.

    He was certainly overdrafted.

A top 15 picks yes, 2nd pick no.

We wanted Garrett and got Clowney.

Herbert and Tua were huge risks at the time though, and both would've been destroyed by this organization.

Agree with a mid 1st rd pick like you said. Do you think CY is as good as Clowney? I wanted Tua but my son talked me out of it because of his hip injury. So I said fine, give me Herbert, at least he has a good arm.

  14. Didn’t like picking Young with the #2 draft pick during that draft. Watched his last few college games where he did nothing. Bull rush into a tackle 50 lbs heavier than him over and over, same results. Guy had no moves and seemed slow compared to elite NFL pass rushers like the kid from Pitt. Yes he did OK against division 3 type tackles but against big 10 linemen he did not shine. Wanted one of the QBs or trade down. Wish we could have received a #1 or at least a 2 but he has health issues so I can see what we were offered. He would have wanted a fortune when his contract was up so good luck in San Fran. Let some of our younger guys play, he’ll, can’t be much worse.

  15. Really would not mind most times as drafting a corner is the hardest position after QB to draft so a draft miss is very possible most times. What really bugs me is we took Forbes and passed on a stud like Gonzales who most regarded as a much better pick. RR should be fired just on his drafting record alone, never mind the poor coaching job he has done the last few years. I mean RR should adopt the George Costanza policy on making decisions. If he thinks pass then run. If he thinks kick a FG then go for it. Look at this draft class. Has any team done worse?

  16. Yes I too want to see Ron and JDR gone but I was under the impression that this season was for an evaluation of what we have. We have a young QB so realistically there should have been no Super Bowl aspersions. I thought RR had 2 years left on his contract after this year and I am guessing 3-4 mill a year. Do you really want to pay him that kind of bread to sit by his pool in So Cal for 2 1/2 years? I assume the new owner has his people working on replacements as we speak. We have been putting up with this kind of play for years, what is another 3/4 of a season. Looks bad when a new owner takes over and fires everyone right away.
