  1. The world is at the bedside of Notre Dame, thanks a lot to all those people.

Eric Fischer, who heads a foundation restoring the 1,000-year-old Strasbourg Cathedral that recently underwent a three-year facelift, said he thought rebuilding Notre Dame would probably take several decades.

Some have expressed hope that detailed 3D maps of Notre Dame created in recent years by academics such the late US art historian Andrew Tallon, who used laser scanners to create a model of the building accurate to within 5mm, could help – as could similar near-perfect computer models generated for video games such as Assassin’s Creed Unity, which is set in Paris.

US citizens Henry and Marie-Josée Kravis contribute €10 mil. Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted on Tuesday that the company would be "donating to the rebuilding efforts to help restore Notre Dame's precious heritage for future generations" but did not specify an amount.

The German and Italian governments have also offered to help in the reconstruction, while Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to send “the best Russian specialists with rich experience in the restoration of national heritage monuments.”

Shared grief and memories make Notre Dame a unifier online

"From what I could see, the stained glass had not been damaged, the three beautiful roses that date back to the 12th and 13th century were still there," explains on BFM Paris André Finot, spokesman of the cathedral, who was able to enter the nave during the night.

The fear concerning these windows is now the fragility of the building. Other stained glass windows have also been damaged, but these are newer.
Another small relief is that the organ of the cathedral was spared by the flames.

A couple of french businessmen already pledged for +€300 mil, that's the total of money that our stupid governments have been granted to take care of ALL our historical  monuments !

  3. "The priority we had was to save the two belfries (the parts that supports the towers), and the two belfries were saved. Imagine: the belfry frame weakened, the bells collapsing, it was really our fear! "" All the works of art that were in the "treasure" part were saved. Most of the time, firefighters in Paris are committed to preserving people, there it was really about safeguarding property, preserving what could still be, so making choices. "  Mgr Patrick Chauvet

The frame dated from 1220. Last year I made sure Notre Dame restoration program was high in my last will.

Edit: the frame was called the forest, because each beam was made in an oak tree. Number of beams = number of oak trees used.

Brexit should be a warning to every country entertaining populist nationalist garbage.

Where does this garbage comes from ? From our politician mainstream pricks who love to play with the devil to serve their means. No excuses ;)

  6. Serenity featuring Matthew Mc Conaughey. He plays a fisherman obsessed with a huge tuna fish ala Moby Dick. He's also having sex with a rich woman in order to pay for his gas and baits. His ex-wife asks him to save her and her son from her new violent husband, asking him to take him on a fishing trip to feed him to the sharks.

MMC plays great as usually but the screenplay lacks mystery and "punch".

  7. Michel Platini, believes that the referee Damir Skomina should never have awarded the penalty to the Red Devils.

"During my years at the International Board, I've always tried to defend the game and protect the players, and what happened on Wednesday just confirmed my story, which is that the Parisian player ( Kimpembe) turns around and the ball hits him arm involuntarily, the referee did what he had to do by awarding a corner kick, and then people told him he needed to take a closer look. Awarding a PK after any contact of the hand (in the box), is against the spirit of football, against the game. And this may lead to situations where, instead of focusing on crossing the ball forward or their kick, the players will first target the hand of the defender, "said the former French player for the Journal du Dimanche.

  8. MaFifa will always find a way to fix games. Law 12 has been writen purposedly to allow the ref to make his own opinion about what is a deliberate act and movement of the hand towards the ball. In this case VAR is useless.

  9. The FIFA rule book (Laws of the Game 2014/2015) defines it as:

“Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration:

the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)

    • the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)

    • the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement

    • touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement

    • hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement”

  11. Getting owned in your own house after winning 0-2 away, letting another remontada happen ( No team in Champions League history had overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg). ManU playing with a B team without Paul Pogba, Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic.

Exiting the competition at the same stage 3 times in a row. Only the Evil empire can do that :ols: They invested €850 mil in players so far since 2011 !

PSG in CL year in year OUT !

Can anyone recommend a show that meets all or most of these criteria:

    1.  Worth sinking the time into

    2.  Apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic or survivalist or just a lot of people die/will die

    3.  Available to stream on any platform

    4.  Completed (i.e., once i start it, i can finish it all the way through)

    5.  Finished on its own terms (i.e., didn't end in the middle b/c it got cancelled).

    Thanks in advance.

My French is pretty rudimentary and I didn't care enough to try to figure out what that tweet said, but I'm pretty sure @FrFanhates PSG (always calls them the Evil Empire) so I think your assumption about his motivations is probably off, not that I actually know what they were in this case.

Congratulation for the effort learning our tricky language 👍.

Translation since this is french slang ;) "This is for the septics or bad-faith merchants who say "gneugneu (stands for scrogneugneu which is a slang term defining an old grumpy service man) there is no red card for Pogba".

I call them the evil empire as pure sarcasm. I do not hate them because they are irrelevant and it is just football, they do not deserve much more attention :).

I do not like their ways and means though. I like to make fun of those arrogants who think everything and anybody are on sale, and keep on losing. Nevertheless I recognize Tuchel's smart game plan. As a matter of fact I like him as a coach and as a person, too bad he is coaching for those people.
