  1. I've had a beer twice in the last couple of days at different places. It's a collaboration between DC Brau and Bluejacket brewery (both in DC) called "Embers of the Deceased." It's a smoked beer. Never had anything like it, it's made with smoked malt and tastes very smoky but good. Aside from the creepy name, the beer was delicious. I found it at Church Key and at Rustico.

  2. This fight card is already beastly w/ only three fights announced. Please, don't let the injury bug hit. :fingersx:

Joe Lauzon vs. Gray Maynard Added to UFC 155

Aug 20, 2012 - The UFC's year-end show named one of its supporting bouts on Monday night, when the promotion announced that a lightweight matchup of Joe Lauzon vs. Gray Maynard will be included in the offering.

The show, which will be UFC 155, takes place on December 29 in Las Vegas.

Lauzon has won three of his last four, most recently defeated Jamie Varner in the third round of their UFC on FOX 4 bout, a matchup that will likely earn some consideration as the best fight of 2012.

After a back-and-forth opening two rounds, Lauzon finally closed out the show with a triangle submission. He's 22-7 overall.

Maynard (11-1-1, 1 no contest) will be fighting for the first time since his June win over Clay Guida, a fight that was notable from the controversy that arose due to Guida's unique strategy. In hopes of avoiding Maynard's power, Guida tried to keep the action limited to short bursts, much to the frustration of the audience. Nevertheless, Maynard won via split-decision.

UFC 155 is expected to feature Junior dos Santos defending the UFC heavyweight championship against Cain Velasquez in a rematch of their 2011 bout. In addition, Chael Sonnen will move up to light-heavyweight to face former champion Forrest Griffin.

  3. Rousey went all Sonnen on Cyborg.

I really wish that could in some way be a UFC main event. I know it won't happen, but it'd be great to see. The 135 Women's division could probably be deep enough to put in the UFC right now. Maybe I'm trippin. Sign a bunch of prospects, develop some talent, do what you're doing with 125.

Even if it's not super-deep yet, Dana should just put a women's division together in the UFC anyway. There's enough talent and enough exciting fights there to be worth having at least one women's division in the UFC. It will only help strengthen cards. If you have a ****ty card like the Faber/Barao card a few weeks back, you can't tell me that a Rousey or Cyborg fight wouldn't help spruce up an event like that.

  4. Btw, other than Shogun, Machida would probably get the most ratings out of any rematch for Jones.

Who really wants to see him rematch Evans? Probably no one, that fight was boring as ****. Anyone care to see a rematch with Rampage? Doubt it. Bader? lol. Machida makes the most sense if they aren't giving Shogun a rematch.

  5. If you've never been, you need to go to the Sam Adam's brewery in Boston. I was there in the Spring and it was awesome.

For one, its FREE. They just ask for a small donation. Then you get a little tour and then they pass around pitchers of beer for like an hour or so.

I actually made it out there last September. My buddy was getting married in Boston and I was in the wedding and he took all of us on a tour of the brewery one of the days. Pretty awesome indeed.

  6. Chael Sonnen vs Forrest Griffin (II) booked for UFC 155:

Griffin vs. Sonnen booked for UFC 155

Sonnen co-hosted UFC Tonight on Tuesday evening and announced that he would be returning to 205lbs to face former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin in December.

“I’ve watched him win the world championship, I’ve watched him etch his name in stone as a guaranteed future Hall of Famer, you and I and the whole world together watched him be a large part of creating and changing the industry that we have today. He’s one guy Jon Jones hasn’t fought, he’s beat two world champions in his last three outings, and on December 29th I will be taking on Forrest Griffin,” Sonnen stated.

The bout between Sonnen and Griffin is actually a rematch of a fight the two had back in 2003 during the famous IFC Global Domination tournament. Griffin submitted Sonnen with a triangle choke in the one-night tournament, which Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral eventually won.

Nate Diaz to fight Benson Henderson for title at UFC on FOX 5

Ultimate Fighting Championship's lightweight title will be defended on network television.

USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com confirmed with UFC officials that lightweight champion Benson Henderson (17-2 mixed martial arts, 5-0 UFC) will face Nate Diaz (14-3-1, 9-3-1) at UFC on Fox 5 on Dec. 8 at a host site to be announced.

A light heavyweight matchup between former champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (21-6, 5-4) and Alexander Gustafsson (14-1, 6-1) is the co-feature, and a B.J. Penn (16-8-2, 12-7-2) vs. Rory MacDonald (13-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) lightweight fight also has been rebooked for the card.

A fourth main-card fight is expected to be added in the coming weeks.

  7. While contiuning the theme of cheap 6 packs, I decided to get the Sam Adams Octoberfest.

Spices on the nose, caramel, maple, a hint of hops, good amount of grain on the big whiff. Flavor is caramel up front, maple as well, fruit complex (orange/banana/plum), assorted nuts, cinnamon and brown sugar back it up a little bit. Certainly a huge wasteland of grain in the flavor, but you can circumnavigate that when you concentrate. Finish is spicy, actually. I really like what's going on here, which is what I expected since I love the Marzen style. Obviously this beer is completely overhyped, beyond measure, even. However, it ain't bad.

So I go to the local grocery story for a few things and decided to buy a six of these.

It's been 25 years since I've been able to do this,(being able to buy the real stuff at someplace else other than the state store),so what can I say? :silly:

Sam Adams makes a whole host of good beers. I enjoy both of these, people do tend to overhype Octoberfest though. I really like their Winter Lager the best out of the seasonal brews though.

  8. Cyborg's no slouch on the ground herself, she regularly competes & wins jiu-jitsu competitions.

    dat suplex

Although I can't see her pulling anything remotely close to a throw off on Ronda Rousey...by the same token Ronda isn't going to be able to do anything against Cyborg with her striking....classic striker vs grappler match. But let's see her get past Kaufman first. I think she will but Kaufman isn't one to sleep on.

  9. I think Hendo will be going after Jones very, very early. He has nothing to lose and should know by now he's built for power, not stamina. He should try as hard as he can to make it ugly, because Jones has been so effortless in there. Once he gets his hands on Hendo and gets him breathing, doesn't matter if it's the first round, I'll pretty much lose all hope.

Jones can definitely take Hendo down, especially after making Dan defend combinations. Hendo's wrestling game has taken a back seat to his commitment to power punching. Everything in his game has taken a back seat to it. He either tornados one in to Jones chin or he'll be quickly dispatched.

This is how I see it too...it's either going to be an early KO for Hendo or a mid to late submission for Bones.

  10. Personally, my ideal outcome would be for Shogun to plow through Vera in entertaining fashion and get the next title shot. If Bones beats Hendo then Bones/Shogun is a great rematch, if Hendo beats Bones, Shogun/Hendo was one of the best fights I've ever seen so I'd be just as happy with that rematch too.

My 2nd pick would be Machida. As Machida/Bones would be a great rematch (I thought Machida easily won the first round in their fight) and of course Machida/Hendo would be a great fight as well.

btw here's a schedule for combat sports in the Olympics:

    http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/413855/MMA-fans-NBC-Olympic-schedule/

It includes wrestling (freestyle & greco), boxing, judo, and TKD. I wish they would show more judo but you can probably find it online somewhere.
