  1. News is breaking that Cruz tore his ACL and is out of his fight against Faber.

Cruz tears ACL, out for fight with Faber

If you’ve been watching this season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ then this news will be a major bummer. It was confirmed earlier this morning that TUF coach Dominick Cruz, is being forced to pull out of his scheduled fight with fellow coach Urijah Faber, due to a torn ACL.

News of a replacement for Cruz is still unknown or if the co-main main event of UFC 148 will be scrapped all together. Regardless if this event is canceled or not, UFC 148 is still shaping up to be an amazing card, with Anderson Silva taking on Chael Sonnen for the rematch of the century.

The real question is, who should replace Cruz if anyone? Or should the fight just be canceled? Let us know your thoughts!

  2. True BJJ artists, if they are worth a lick, are not threatened off their backs. They don't consider it a position of weakness. However the UFC's style of judging makes it hard to win any favor for a fighter off their back, even when the guy on stop isn't doing anything, and the guy on the bottom is actively pursuing submissions the entire time.

Paul Sass is bringing back the guard in MMA. He's fighting Jacob Volkmann at 146 on the undercard. The dude will straight up pull guard in the middle of a fight and either heel hook or triangle his opponent.

  3. Some gifs from last night:

Bermudez had a bunch of good slams on the Fuel TV portion:

Louis Gaudinot had nice guillotine choke out:

    Pat Barry getting worked:

Maybe I should change my sig from Palhares heel hooking to him getting TKO'd:

    Awesome sub by Nate Diaz

    ---------- Post added May-6th-2012 at 01:45 PM ----------

I might be remembering a different fight. Forgive me if I'm wrong. I think Nate has as a good as chance as anyone to beat Ben. I would favor Nate but I am Diaz fanatic.

Believe me man, I am too, I was on here sticking up for Nick when he was in Elite XC and got stopped by KJ Noons' punk ass. I think Nate would have a shot at a submission, but Ben Henderson's top game is phenomenal, if I had to guess, I would see Bendo GSPing him to a victory. I think his strength and top game are just too much.

  4. I don't recall that Rory/Nate fight being competitive, maybe I need to watch it again.

I don't either, from what I remember Rory worked him in all three rounds.

Nate's improved a lot, but I can't ever seeing him beating someone with the wrestling ability of Ben Henderson.

  5. Excellent free card tonight on FOX. I don't think anyone I picked won but damn it was entertaining. Great finish by Diaz, but I still think he's going to struggle against good wrestlers. I hated seeing Palhares lose to Belcher like that, but props to Belcher for surviving Palhares' heel hook attempts and finishing him. Also I hope they keep Pat Barry around, I know his record is terrible but he's never a boring fighter. Would at least be a good undercard mainstay.

Now I can't wait for 146, they're going to have to reinforce the bottom of the octagon. Plus I want to see Edson Barboza and Paul Sass on the undercard.

  6. I had one of these tonight:

    Human+Picture+949.jpg

    (not my pic)

And if you're a stout fan I highly recommend it. Nice hints of chicory/coffee/chocolate great change up from the IPA kick I've been on for so long.

  7. Seems popular up north, I'd never had it or even Yuengling till I went up there

Do they drink a lot of Shiner in your area? My sister lives in Ft. Worth and it's really popular around there.

  8. I could see him getting a Brian Stann or Rousimar Palhares (assuming he heel hooks Belcher) to test him in the big leagues.

UFC Signs Former Bellator Champion Hector Lombard

    By Ryan Bafaloukos - Intern

Earlier this week, the UFC announced the signing of Hector Lombard. Lombard is the former Bellator Middleweight Champion and comes into the UFC with a 31-2-1 record.

Follow @sbnarizona on Twitter, and Like SB Nation Arizona on Facebook.

Apr 27, 2012 - The UFC middleweight division got a little deeper earlier this week when the UFC announced the addition of Hector Lombard. Lombard (31-2-1) is the former Bellator Middleweight Champion and is undefeated since 2006.

Lombard was one of the most recognizable fighters in Bellator. He joined Bellator in the promotions' inaugural season in 2009. Lombard stormed through the middleweight tournament, winning all three of his fights by knockout, eventually wining the middleweight title in June of 2009 with a fourth-round TKO victory over Jared Hess.

Lombard is know for his explosive knockout power and superior striking skills. Lombard has fined seven of his last eight fights, with six knockout in that span. Lombard holds the records for fastest knockout in Bellator history with his six second knockout of Jay Silva at Bellator 18.

The options for Lombard in the UFC are limited at least right away, as possibly the top six middleweights in the UFC are all booked for upcoming fights. Chael Sonnen challenges Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight TItle at UFC 148 on July 7th. Top contenders Chis Weidman and Mark Munoz clash on July 11th at UFC on FUEL TV 4, and coming up on May 5th, Alan Betcher and Rousimar Palhares battle on UFC on FOX 2

I think a perfect matchup for Lombard's octagon debut is Brian Stann. Stann is one of the best middleweights in the UFC and is coming off an impressive TKO victory over Alessio Sakara. Stann is the former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion and has won four of his last five fights in the UFC. Both men are standup specialists with extreme power and skill on their feet.

UFC fans are in for a treat whoever Lombard faces. He is a powerful fighter that can end a fight anytime. While Lombard's level of competition is questionable but his knockout power can make him a problem for the top middleweights in the world.

  9. And it is moved to 148 in Vegas. way to screw this one up Dana. I swear, ever since they signed the deal with Fox, it is as if all their other business takes a distant second place. How do you not know that there is a UN conference in town the same week you plan to go there? Even if you didn't check the UN website, or a local Rio event calender, you would think that before announcing a big fight you would check to see what hotel availability will be like that week? I'd expect this type of mess up from a smaller promoter, but not the UFC.

What makes no sense is that they will still go ahead with a 147 card in Brazil, but no Anderson at a smaller venue because 'the fight is too big", yet they move it to the MGM which holds less than 17,000. Something is fishy here. maybe Sonnen got scared or the Brazilian authorities would not give an exception for TRT or high Testosterone levels, but something ain't jiving with this load of BS from the UFC.

Honestly I don't care. As long as the fight is still on, I'm happy. I just want to see the rematch.

    btw, just saw this:

UFC 149: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Cheick Kongo booked for July 21 in Calgary

    Too soon?

It seems like it might be for heavyweight legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who has his next fight booked for UFC 149 on July 21, 2012, at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

According to the Calgary Sun, "Minotauro" will be taking on 265-pound gatekeeper Cheick Kongo at the mixed martial arts (MMA) pay-per-view (PPV) event, the first ever in Calgary.

Nogueira will be making his return from a broken arm suffered at the hands of Frank Mir during their bout at UFC 140 on Dec. 10, 2011, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. That means just seven months after he had a titanium plate and 16 screws put in his arm, he'll be banging it out with a French knockout artist.

Doctors did say that he could return as soon as six months after surgery if all went well. Apparently it has and he's headed back to the Octagon for more punishment. Or glory. Perhaps both, even.

    Star-divide

Standing in his way is a chiseled 6'4'', 230-pound beast named Cheick Kongo, a kickboxer who was last seen getting his lights turned off by another former PRIDE great, Mark Hunt.

Prior to that, the French fighting sensation had put together a pair of impressive victories over Pat Barry (one of the craziest knockouts of all time) and Matt Mitrione. In doing so, and then losing to Hunt, he simply reaffirmed his status as the heavyweight division's gatekeeper.

And a perfect fight for Nogueira to come back to.

UFC 149 is expected to featured a main event of Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight championship against former Strikeforce 205-pound titleholder Dan Henderson. The bout has not been signed, however, but is strongly rumored to headline the event.

Jose Aldo was originally announced as defending his featherweight belt on the show but UFC President Dana White has said he could be moved to the UFC 147 fight card taking place on June 23 in Brazil.

Seems like an early return for Nog. Either way, I seriously think Nog can hurt him standing, Kongo's been hurt in so many fights recently. And if it goes to the ground, RIP Kongo.

  10. The part of me that loves Henderson is hoping that Bones will choke Hendo out so Hendo can retire with the distinction of never being stopped on account of strikes. Big Nog almost made it, maybe Hendo can.

Henderson getting submitted is the most likely scenario IMO. Hendo will be tossing that right hand like crazy and if he doesn't land it in one of the first three rounds, then I think he will tire out and end up getting submitted in the championship rounds.

Also, if things get wild and Hendo did manage to drop Jones and finish him with strikes, I'm wondering if he's really up for defending the title however-many times. Although, I imagine if that did happen Jones would likely get an immediate rematch.

No matter what though, I prefer to see Hendo go out on a high note.

  11. Widmer Brothers Rotator Series Spiced IPA

Very hazy, burnt orange color, small white head. Fantastic caramel & orange candy-like aroma. Flavor is the same, with a huge herbal hop presence. There are an array of spices in this beer, and it's easy to notice the pepper and ginger. After I read that it has black tea, cinnamon and clove in it, those flavors became somewhat apparent as well. Bitterness is high pitched, but not too strong. I tell ya, this is a fantastic beer. ABV is 7% and there is a ton going on here, she's a hefty one, I kind of wish I could have gotten a 3 pack of this. Two for now and 1 for the stash. Looks like it'll be 4 in the stash, and I'm not complaining. Thanks for the suggestion QBK (AKA Elvis Sinosic).

Great review, glad you liked it man

  12. Tonight is beer night and I don't know what to get, so I'll read through the last few pages and/or take suggestions. Thinking a relatively popular 6er for a craft beer. Not too expensive.

I just picked up a mixed 6er this weekend and one of the ones I really liked was Widmer Bros Spiced IPA (Rotator Series #4). It tastes just how it sounds: very balanced with some hoppy IPA flavor and a nice spicy finish, but not heavy on either.

  13. Not being a fighter, i'll never know the psyche in their head but it's beginning to feel like there is a "dignity of going all five rounds, live on to fight another day" mentality in modern day fighters.

I think some fighters have that mentality but there are still a lot of guys who come to fight and I think Jon Jones is one of them, that was the first decision he's fought to in nine fights. I think it was obvious that Rashad was scared to pull the trigger in the 4th and 5th while Bones kept hitting him with with everything from kicks to elbows, to trips to shoulder strikes to pulling guard and working from his back in the end.

  14. The fight never got close to finishing. Jones never landed anything that seriously hurt Rashad. Rashad played defensive for 5 rounds even when he knew he was losing. Post fight interview with Rashad showed that he barely took any damage. I can go to any elementary school and find a better pattycake match. That's all that was going on. Both fighters said they could have done so much more but were scared of messing up. When two fighters fight scared, you get Jones Vs Evans I. I don't even know what Jones was afraid of.

    Just bleed brah

Dana just confirmed Hendo is up next for Bones.

The h-bomb is definitely his only chance. Honestly, I would've rather seen Hendo just go out on the streak he's on now.

  15. What a snoozer. Evans barely looked like he was even in a fight, yet he lost to the champ. This was worse than GSP fighting.

Whoever paid for that card surely has to be disappointed. It's a farce of a match considering the hype, history of the division, and "personal vendetta" that we have been fed the past couple of weeks.

It wasn't the most exciting fight that Bones has had, but damn I think you're underselling it a bit.
