  1. None of the players available to the Wizards are win now immediate impact options. A slightly undersized rebounding PF (TRob), a wing that can't shoot (MKG), an undersized average athlete that can't create his own shot at SG (Beal). I do find it interesting that people are willing to accept that Beal is a great shooter despite his numbers screaming otherwise. Shot selection is part of being a great shooter.

yeah, that is the funny thing about this Beal love. Im not sure if he is better than Jeremy Lamb.

  2. Davis has a floor though, even now, that could be effective for the wizards. Looking at those highlights, all Drummond can do effectively is dunk. Jan can do the same thing, but not with the same authority. Drummond has also shown to be quite incompetent in defense...which would take time to fix, and the fact that he may actually be able to fix it. Drummond's floor IMO is current Kwame Brown..a serviceable Big man that is bigger than most in the league (but ever Kwame plays competent Man D). Davis' floor is Camby IMO. Davis' main concern is his need for bulk in order to bang down low. His frame suggests he can do that. As stupid as the wizards are at developing bigmen, they wouldn't have trouble in finding a nutritionist to help him gain weight. It must be said though, I think Drummond's ceiling is higher than Davis'. A team doesn't necessarily need to extend their rebuild plan with Davis, I guess that is what I am trying to get at.

Davis' frame suggests he can add weight? Im not sure about that one.

And what did Davis do last year except dunk, rebound, and block shots? He showed no post game at all, and at least Drummond has NBA size already. He may need to refine himself, but he is already a massive player. Davis and Drummond will probably take 2-3 years to be good enough offensive players, imo. I really believe the mess at UConn last year hurt his stock (and it did the same to Lamb).

Defense, shot blocking, and rebounding are not part of playing basketball?

    apparently not

I dont say any of this to say the Wizards should take Drummond, but just that people need to think about what they are saying.

  3. Drummond was the fastest player at UConn last season. The guy is a freak, and does have good ability. I just hope the Wizards dont draft him because he will never realize it here.

    ---------- Post added June-8th-2012 at 02:01 PM ----------

Drummond is a project player though...he isn't exactly refined in the low post. I'm not sure that John Wall would appreciate us trying to develop another big man (who has franchise potential). Drafting Drummond would lead me to believe the organization doesn't believe wall has the ability to develop to be a top 5 pg.

    that is an interesting leap.

If the Wizards drafted Davis, would you feel the same way? He is as big of a project as Drummond, imo

  4. Andre Drummond is a physical freak' date=' isn't he?[/quote']

would have been the #1 pick in the draft if he came to UConn in shape last year and the UConn coaching situation was settled, regardless of how Davis played.

He was really burned by the mess that was that coaching staff and the horrible PG play, but he also was out of shape.

  5. Because Tech is in the southwest corner of Virginia. I never really got how the local media would always include Va Tech and Virginia as a local team. Each of them are more than an hour away. I get that there are alot of fans of those teams in the area, but that would be like where I live currently, Charlotte, embracing the Tennessee Vols as a "home" team. Wow, I don't even remember this quote. You must have gone through alot of pages.

this started in the late 90s when VaTech became really good at football. The local media started to embrace them because we had no other good college teams. That, and a lot of VaTech alums live in the area but the same is true of Michigan and Florida and we dont embrace them.

I never got it myself and I dont include either of VaTech or UVa as local.

    ---------- Post added June-8th-2012 at 01:18 PM ----------

That wingspan more than makes up for his lack of "ideal" height for a PF. Give EG, GM of the year if he can somehow pull off getting a 2nd lottery pick and the team takes either Austin Rivers or Jeremy Lamb.

I would love Lamb. I feel better about him than Beal.

Rivers, Id pass since we have Wall.

    ---------- Post added June-8th-2012 at 01:23 PM ----------

Good writeup, but I disagree with you on DC being a basketball town. The Redskins have been #1 since I was a little boy. I think the Bullets were always 2nd with the Capitals 3rd.

this is a Redskins town, but its basketball first.

The area has been one of the best bball talent rich areas in the entire country since Elgin Baylor. The HS bball scene is among the best in the country, and of course the colleges. We have some of hte best AAU bball teams also.

THis area is not in love with football like it is in other parts of the country, we just love the Redskins. Basketball has always been our love. Kenner League and Goodman league are some of the most attractive summer leagues in America,

  6. You are missing my point. Let's see what he does with a full offseason training program, that is my point.

I like that Wall was in LA working with Cassell a few weeks back.

He really has a lot of work to do with his game. If he can just develop a consistent jumper, and that would mean working with a shooting coach because his shot is flat, he would elevate himself to a fringe elite PG next season, imo.

  7. My sister lives in Chapel Hill and her boyfriend is a UNC alum. I get to watch a lot of UNC games and hear all about the program from the die hards. I've seen Harrison Barnes play quite a bit both freshman and sophomore seasons.

You're simply wrong about him. Barnes gets his shot against everyone. He's not a great ball handler and he's not an elite athlete, but he's not slow and he does get to the rim and the FT line, does get past his defenders from time to time.

Barnes wasn't a great defender in college, but I'd agree with Samuels that he's above average and will not be a defensive liability in the NBA.

Watch the cutups from those 20+ point games he had. Every video is entirely comprised of him creating a variety of shots for himself off the dribble.

I get the sense that a lot of the people criticizing Barnes only ever watched him play during this year's NCAA tournament, his worst slump of the season.

you are mixing up getting his shot off versus creating his own shot. He doesnt create anything for himself. When they had Larry Drew's son running point, he looked terrible and people were wondering what the hype was all about.

Then he transfers and Kendall Marshall is given the starting job, he starts looking like a good player again. Its not a coincidence. Last year in the tournament, the same thing happened. Marshall breaks his wrist and Barnes looks terrible against freakin Ohio.

Its one thing if dude was like Reggie Miller catch and shoot type, but he isnt good off the ball either.

And I didnt say Barnes was slow either, but he doesnt have any type of fluidness to his game. He is one of the most mechanical wing players I have ever seen at UNC. When I say he is not quick, I mean more of an acceleration thing. He doesnt have a great first step, which Paul Pierce and Rudy Gay have, and he isnt that quick laterally.

I live in ACC country and have seen Barnes play at least 40-45 games over the last two years. Ive watched a lot of his game, and that is what he is. He isnt an explosive player, not a good ballhandler and not adept at creating his own shot.

In saying that, I think he could be a good scorer in the NBA if he is paired with a really good pass first point guard to make up for his shot creating deficiency. But if the Wizards take him at #3 I will be very disappointed

    Ive watched Barnes

  8. IM seriously wondering what Barnes you all watched in college.

the one I saw i a guy who could not create a shot for himself. He has good bounce, but isnt really quick or shifty and could not get by anyone in college. He wasnt a good defender in college either, not as bad as Kendall Marshall but he was not good in college.

He just reminds me of Calbert Cheany, down to the swagless hair cuts.

    ---------- Post added June-6th-2012 at 02:55 PM ----------

Barnes reminds me a bit of Michael Finely

Finley was a great athlete and could beat anyone off the dribble. Not at all the same.

  9. thats a really good comparison. He reminds me of Glen Rice. I think he is the guy who gets knocked like Pierce and Gay did and some team will get a steal. The wide open NBA style fits his skillset alot better then the slowed down methodical college sets teams run. Barnes is gonna be really good spotting up on the break.

nah, Barnes is nothing like Pierce or Gay coming out of college. Not even same plane.

Both of those guys can create their own shot, Barnes couldnt at a college level. He has a slow first step too, altho he has a lot of bounce.

Also, UNC played faster than most college teams so I dont know what you mean by "wide open NBA."

Harrison Barnes is the next Sean Elliott

    If he is fortunate.

I think he is the next Calbert Cheany

  10. Am I the only Team Beal guy on this board? Sure feels like it. I can see why other want Robinson, I just can see our backcourt set for years with Wall/Beal.

    Id rather have Lamb.

and I get the MKG cant shoot stuff, but he improves our perimeter defense tenfold

Also, they really resigned Whitman for another year? I dont know why I bother with this organization some times. Leonsis is such a cheapskate.

  11. He might not even be 100% by September because of his shoulder, but he's taking the fight anyway. Kirkland's a credible opponent, but one that has enough flaws that Golden Boy isn't too scared to put their cash cow in the ring with.

Erislandy Lara was also in the mix, but Golden Boy would never take that risk.

Kirkland will make Canelo work, but I cant see him losing.

I also did not believe Paul Williams would be a good opponent either because Williams never learned how to use his height and would be open to a lot of shots, altho his conditioning is much better than Alvarez's.

Kirkland/Alvarez will be a very entertaining fight for the casuals, but I cant see it going far.

I am still not sold on Alvarez.

  12. I thought it was Nigel De Jong the first time, he hasn't been the same since then. Maybe I'm wrong...

yeah, I think you are mixing him up with Hatem Ben Arfa who De Jong broke his leg in 2010.

And notice how other countries are starting to catch up with us in terms of developing baseball and basketball. Just like they are adjusting to those sports, we are adjusting to soccer.

a lot of Americans dont want to admit this, but the Europeans are better at producing athletes than we are. Our system is completely screwed up in all sports but since we have a huge population and a diverse gene pool, we overcome it. Soccer's problem originally was that they went with the typical American sporting template and then realized that it does not work.

yea DCU not having their own stadium is an outrage. bulldoze RFK and build a new SSS on top of it. its really sad we don't have our own stadium yet.

you cant bulldoze RFK, DC United need to play in a new stadium. I fear they are going to move to BMore tho.

  13. Our best young player Stuart Holden suffered back to back serious leg injuries. He may never be the same, but he was looking excellent for Bolton and the US before De Jong broke his leg. Howard can play into his late 30's, so he doesn't need to be replaced. Fabian Johnson looks legit. Between Gomez, Agundelo and Boyd, one of the will be a good player. Who knows, maybe Jozy will stop being lazy?

    it was Johnny Evans.

US have some encouraging signs but that defense is terrible and old and has no one else in the pipeline.

I also dont think this Brazil team, or the full national team, are that good. Cant see them winning gold in London.

  14. I love MKG's intangibles and he is my #2 ranked prospect but why in the world would anybody want him on the Wizards?

That is about the only guy with a shot uglier then Walls on a team in need of pure shooters. He is a SF where we just spent 2 first round picks on that position in last years draft with Singleton and Vesely. So we got 3 SF's that can play defense and have good intangibles but can't shoot a lick makes 0 sense.

I will be shocked if Beal goes top 3 matter of fact i'm willing to sig bet anything he does'nt he is getting so over hyped right now.

The top 4 in my opinion are stone cold locks in some kinda order.

    Davis

    Drummond

    TRob

    MKG

After those 4 I could easily see Barnes going over Beal. And honestly I would'nt be shocked to see Barnes climb back up the draft boards after workouts.

Vesley's future is at the 4, imo an Singleton needs to develop an offensive game.

MKG is a guy I want. He is a winner and is one of the most hungriest players I have ever seen in college ball. If he drops to 3rd, he has to be taken.

  15. I disagree with Ward not wanting to lead. He took the fight to Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham last year.

In saying that, Ward is more of a BHop clone but with a bit more punching power.

It should be an interesting fight, I got Ward winning.

  16. Idk about "will," since this fight will never happen.

Did anyone see the Marco Huck/Ola Afalobi fight on Saturday in Germany? That 12th round could be round of the year and the fight is one of the best I have seen in some time

  17. Most people favoring Mayweather aren't really out there trashing Manny. It is more about Bob Arum and his politics. Manny has said himself he defers the decision making on his opponents to Arum. It's Arum that is carefully selecting who Manny will fight and at what weight etc etc etc, and it seems like every time Manny has fought someone over the past few years it always comes with some weird circumstances of the opponent having to do something to take them out of their element. Again, the blame is on Arum, but Manny also has the ability, especially at this stage of his career, to fire Arum.

On the other hand, the folks favoring Pac, seem to want nothing more then to preach the "Mayweather is scared" BS. It's more about how much they hate Mayweather as a person, and hardly ever to do with his actual boxing skills in the ring which most of the boxing experts say are the best in the world, and why most analysts believe he would beat Pac.

Yup, this is it entirely. I actually enjoy watching Manny box. Think he is exciting, BS catchweight stipulations notwithstanding but Floyd would beat Manny 9/10 times. Floyd will end up being a top 5 all-time boxer when his career is over, IMO. What he does in the ring is boxing at his core, and he has no weaknesses except brittle hands which has effected him his entire career.

    ---------- Post added May-9th-2012 at 10:18 AM ----------

Mayweather IS scared. Don't get me wrong, Arum is as big a reason this fight hasn't gone down as Floyd. His claim that they needed to construct a special stadium was BS. But Floyd keeps coming up with a different demand everytime. First it was Olympic style drug testing, then it was a date and venue HE decided on, now he wants the lions share of the purse. In other words, Floyd is making demands that he knows won't be accepted by Top Rank. IMO, that makes Floyd looks scared. Arum on the other hand, is a greedy old **** that just wants his hands in both fighters pockets. Since Floyd isn't a Top Rank fighter, that won't happen with him.

He offered Manny $40 million. No one else will ever offer that much money for him to fight.

I'm not absolving Floyd at all but this fight isn't happening because of Arum/Floyd relationship. Not because of Pacquaio because Floyd has damn near every advantage against dude. If a fight were to ever happen, Floyd would be the Vegas favorite.

    ---------- Post added May-9th-2012 at 10:20 AM ----------

Also Floyd takes the lionshare of the purse (it should be 55/45, IMO) because he takes all the financial risks. He rents out the arena, sets PPV prices, and pays the purse of his opponent.

Arum and co are robbing Manny too. Idk if you all remember the financial company who claimed Manny's money leaves him fast and Arum and his friends are the main culprit.

    ---------- Post added May-9th-2012 at 10:21 AM ----------

One more addition, 55/45 of PPV revenue.
