Barnes's hips is the only thing you keep bringing up like it's some insuperable barrier to NBA success. You and I both know he's a perfect fit in that system.
I keep bringing it up because he is not a fluid player. THat stuff matters in getting separation from these 6'8" athletic freaks that play on the perimeter in the NBA. And he has suspect handles.
What system does Golden State run? They chuck that ball. Barnes will get a lot of shots. He has a chance to do something, but he wont get the ball where he likes it like at UNC. They dont have a real point guard.
Or he'll almost never see the floor. That pick was a flier, nothing more. It's no skin off their nose if nothing comes of it. He'll have to earn everything he gets now and that's not really... his wheelhouse.OKC has no offensive talent on the bench after Harden. In fact they only have 3 scorers on that team. He is going to get a lot of minutes and you are going to look very wrong.
-
Barnes will make it a long time as a Pro. He's been a winner with an aggressive scoring mentality. I wouldn't be surprised at all if PJIII finds himself in a new line of work by the end of his rookie deal.
They're not even in the same discussion as prospects.
Barnes has stiff hips and who is going to get him the ball in Golden State? And his heart pumps kool aid without a point guard.
Jones will be good for OKC, great situation for him. He will be the 7th man after Harden and will ball with no pressure.
-
we just had 4 Baylor players drafted in the last 7 or 8 picks. Scott Drew is such an idiot.
-
Barnes was a much, much better collegiate player than Jones.
OKC is pretty much the only team I could see PJIII being successful on. He's a tin man through and through.
Barnes obviously isnt tho
-
And also because he plays like a scrub.
in fairness to dude, that idiot Scott Drew played him out of position the last two years.
But he drifts. He is a top 5 pick talent tho. OKC got a steal.
-
LOL what's with the histrionics guys? It's a second round pick in the NBA draft. You all realize these picks are worth exactly nothing and have like a -28% hit rate right?
great
next year we should just abdicate our 2nd round picks.
-
Ernie works for some Eastern European mafia don, dont he?
-
What?
He had top 10 talent last year. He didn't declare. He didn't play well this season and fell as a result. He doesn't have top 10 talent anymore.
I fail to see any appeal in drafting him. I'm glad the Wizards stayed away. There was no reason to draft him.
he has top 10 talent this year
he dropped because of the knee issue.
-
Because ESPN reports news at the pace of a snail. ESPN lost journalistic credibility years ago.
Teague drafted. Good for him.
also because it was the Hawks and not the Sixers
The Thunder's team now, wow. Thats scary good.
Not at all feeling the Beal pick. Lamb will be the best two guard in this draft.

Just dawned on me that Cotto is available for Canelo. That would be a great fight and would put up very good PPV numbers. Mexico vs. Puerto Rico is easily sold in boxing.too big of a risk for Goldenboy
-
Thats what I meant, it clears the way for JCCjr/Martinez to be the only scheduled ppv card that night. Nobody left for Canelo with a name value that would support it being on ppv.
yeah thats true
altho they could push it anyway considering that Canelo is the draw and Mexicans are going to buy the fight. Maybe throw more money at Kirkland? That September 15th date is cursed.
-
I wonder who Canelo fights now? Guess it clears the way for JCCjr/Martinez, although I still don't see that fight happening.
no chance that happens. Golden Boy want to make money off him, Martinez is too good for Alvarez and JCC is a light heavyweight pretending to be a middleweight. JCC jr is also Top Rank and an untrustworthy guy.
Lopez was impressive as hell, was wild because I dont recall him being that good against Vargas who I feel is overrated
GoldenBoy may have to just fall on their sword and not take take that Sept 15th date.

Ortiz broke his jaw
those upper cuts
---------- Post added June-23rd-2012 at 10:54 PM ----------
Ortiz has no one else to blame but himself. Even tho Lopez was impressive he never had his guard up for those upper cuts.
Lopez was killing him the whole fight with those.
I had Lopez winning by 2 rounds
-
Ortiz needs to reitre. Just end his career. he is not built for this.
-
Lopez is really good.
I have him winning this fight 4-3
---------- Post added June-23rd-2012 at 10:41 PM ----------
Ortiz has nothing for Lopez's uppercuts
-
Ortiz got hurt tho
Good fight

Great fight between Humberto Soto & Lucas Mathysse, and an even better job by Soto's corner for stopping the contest. Mathysse's body shot were devastating.
im upset the ref let that fight go on. Soto was grabbing the rope and walking slowly to his corner. Dude was finished. Good on his corner for stopping it.

Stat wise, Collison and Ves were near twins as rookies
when you look at advanced stats like shot location, total rebounding rate, etc they arent.
They arent similar players, and Collison was more efficient his rookie year.
If Vesely played on the level that Collison played his rookie year, I dont believe people would be so conflicted about Vesely's future.
-
What is it that you think makes them so different?
Collison is more skilled. He has a back to the basket game and isnt nearly 7 feet tall. No where near the athlete that Vesely is either.
They both are decent rebounders and are physical players, but Collison has a lot more basketball ability than Vesely.
-
I don't think Nick Collison is nearly as good as you do. He's a rotational big man. Vesely is that, at worst.
I say that about Collison on this current Thunder team. I would take Collison over Kendrick Perkins.
And Vesely didnt look anywhere near as good as a Nick Collison.
My real thing is i dont see the comparison, they arent similar players.
-
Its not the same system because he learned under Dean you just assume it was. Roy did run alot of the same sets with Pierce though. I believe even one of the draft sites wrote about Roys system being Pg and Bigman dominant.
Dean's systems were big man and PG dominant. HE made King Rice look like a decent player. JR Reid, Brad Daugherty, Montross.
But to continue on with this, Wayne Ellington and Rashad McCants were featured and the leading scorers for those teams. Im not buying this "Barnes wasnt featured" stuff at all. He only started to look like a decent college player when Marshall was put into the starting line up.
People can knock Barnes all they want but this thread will be on here and hopefully we bump it up for next year.just as long as you are willing to bump this if Barnes shows off those stiff hips to no avail in the NBA too.
-
Those saying Vesely will be out of the league... Could you explain why Niick Collison is 8 years deep in the league with no plans of retiring? Vesely simply needs to hit the gym and learn to set screens and he'll be in the league for a decade. I'm not saying gain starting center weight, just enough to provide length in a "small" lineup and because of his speed and finishing someone will always pay him,
That IMO is his floor.
why compare him to Nick Collison? Nick Collison is a pretty good player who should be starting for OKC. Not really an energy player either like Vesely is, and not a similar athlete.
I would be delighted if Vesely became like Nick Collison.
-
he was flabby and sick in that bout too.
-
Can't put all that on Barnes although he did struggle. And nobody ever mentions that Roy Williams system is'nt designed for a guy like Harrison to really get off. In the NBA he will have a more wide open, heavily spaced league that fits his strenghts much better. I think that to many people scream to draft certain guys based on college play and there not projecting them into the next level or looking at the overall big picture coaching, systems, teammates etc.
UNC had a great chance to win it all this year. Marshall going down killed them and any chance they had especially with his primary backup out as well, that little dude who took his spot was just awful.
The NBA is a pick&roll heavy league with lots of isolations. Barnes has proven that he is by far the best midrange shooter in this draft. He has also scored in isolations a ton his 2 dribble pullup and step back jumpers are NBA caliber. He has proven he can shoot off screens much more then Beal did this year. He is a good long defender with a NBA offensive game.
Roy Williams' system is the same system Dean Smith had. Vince Carter, Jordan, Stackhouse, even Forte got busy in that system. Barnes didnt because he has stiff movement.
The same system that Paul Pierce did his thing. That Keith Langford looked like a potential lottery pick.
