You're right. "What if" this is not a product of the current mass shooting culture in America. We'd still have it there as the new normal and this as an outlier.

323.1M people in the United States. 7.4B people in the world. Seems like today a single person can inflict more damage on others by themselves with a gun or a bomb or something biological, than any other time in the history of mankind. Directions are online. Access to the information and tools are readily available.

I think words are the most deadly weapon in history.

  2. I'm torn. I always liked the whole unknown factor of exploration in TOS. However, I think it might be cool to have a series somehow related to the 31st century and the time travel aspect with that character Daniels from Enterprise.

  3. Sitting here patching ESXi servers because I have nothing else to do while waiting for EMC support to "proactively" fix a controller on our XtremIO storage. Been going since 9PM Eastern and its worse off than when they started. Finance systems are shut down waiting for these guys to be done. Supposed to be a one hour job, and its been five. Another reason we left Dell/EMC for Pure Storage. So glad I start a new job in July and won't have to deal with this operational crap.

Just wanted to point out that Planned Parenthood absolutely provides adoption services and pregnancy care.

    No they don't. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/pregnancy/considering-adoption

Just like cancer screenings, all they do is say go talk to one of these places on the approved list.

Anyway. The problem with the GOP is not evangelicals, as much as some of you folks hate them. The problem is that its run by a bunch of stubborn old white men who are more about economic self service. It could still hold onto social conservativism and move more moderate in things like economics. You're average GOP conservative would follow economically to the middle.

Enchantress and the Executioner have been the main villains in more Marvel comics than almost anybody except maybe Dr. Doom. i don't think there's a single one of the staple characters that has not encountered them. Even when they are not the main threat, they cause a hell of a lot of trouble.

I'd also like to see them do something with some of Thor's older villains.. the Wrecker is too much fun, especially since Loki creates him to just **** with Thor. I'd love it if they made him a character and gave him that over-the-top badly written Brooklyn accent.

Ulik the Troll would be fun in a larger capacity.

So much they can do,, but not enough movies to do them i guess.

I'm waiting to see if they sneak in Mephisto somewhere. There was that whole story where he tried to capture Thor's soul, but got Loki's instead I think. And of course he was Thanos' henchman with the Infinity Gauntlet story.

    Both of them were Hela?

I liked Hela's helmet.. she looked like Jack Kirby pulled her right off the page.

But if the other woman is Hela sans helmet, that makes sense... although she ain't shattering Mjolnir.

Surtur is the cause of Ragnarok.. or at least that's how the stories go.

It looked like Cate Blanchette to me, and she's playing Hela. Or maybe my eyes are going bad...

That's a rather bold and unargued statement. Selective enforcement and prosecution happens all the time.  Do you think traffic laws are useless?  Most state's domestic violence laws used to give arrest discretion to responding officer.  Now, many require officers to arrest at least one or file a report why not (how many do you think write a report?).  Which is better?

Truth is considered bold these days I guess. You wrote one sentence or so in order to pay lip service to existing laws, but wrote an entire paragraph on why they shouldn't be enforced, which pretty much seems to be applicable to anybody but a violent criminal.

Those that exploit illegal immigrants should also be prosecuted.

Don't you think that those who employ illegal immigrants at all should be subject to the law? Not just those that exploit them.

I get that they are here illegally and the law allows ICE to do what they did.  But this will very likely deter illegal immigrants from seeking shelter from the cold.  Arresting them based on tips from their abusers at the courthouse will have very real and perilous repercussions. (I guess it would be too much to hope that they might be advised of their rights under VAWA?).  Harder crackdown of illegal immigrants will drive them further below the radar which will be obviously bad for those individuals, but also will have tremendous societal costs.  People will be easy targets for the unsavory among us, many will be fearful of assisting the police or testifying jn court.  It will actually encourage the unscrupulous to hire illegal immigrants because they can screw them over in wages, worker's comp, etc and weaponize legal status against them.  Does the law allow these ICE actions?  Sure.  But for crying out loud, there has got to be some exercise of prosecutorial discretion.

Actually, I'm not sure you do "get that they are here illegally" at all. I'm all for compassion for people, but at the same time, a law is useless if not enforced.

  9. Great blog post from a Christian pastor I have met several times.

Straw Men, Dead Children, and the Syrian Refugee Crisis

    Quote

Over the past week, President Trump's Executive Order to indefinitely halt the Syrian Refugee program has caused quite a stir around the country.  "Fake News" on both sides of the political spectrum have added an annoying level of drama to the situation, and followers of Jesus in the midst have reached differing conclusions.

For me, this is an easy case to figure out.

My international work has involved spending time in refugee camps abroad, and I've also had the privilege of working closely with a number of organizations stateside that minister to this vulnerable segment of our global population.  Additionally, I've also had the good fortune to work with members of our intelligence community whose job it is to ensure the safety of American citizens by "vetting" potential refugees who seek resettlement in our country.  They tell me that our refugee vetting system is as tight as it gets.  I'm thankful.  This is as it should be.

My knowledge and experience with this issue brought me quickly to the conclusion that this order is unnecessary, harmful to Christian mission here and abroad, potentially deadly to those seeking safety from the worst humanitarian crisis in the last 200 years, and ineffective at truly keeping Americans safe.

If anyone is considering rolling out office 365 email encryption, send me a pm.

    i found this:

    https://www.skylinetechnologies.com/Blog/Skyline-Blog/August-2015/EmailMessageEncryption

basically you can set it up so that a little button shows up in OWA and in Exchange (pushed via group policy) that allows the user to manually choose to encrypt the message. the plan was (not decided by me) to train the users to do this for message encryption, and to use the transport rules as a fall back for when people forget or use a mobile device to send the email.

but that guide is pretty bad ass.

Sounds cool. Unfortunately, we are stuck with Identrust PKI's or CAC.

Kind of excited when I get to play with new tech. We recently decided to change course on our virtual backups. Made an investment in Rubrik after years with Veeam.

  11. My sister is hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year. All we have to bring is dessert. My wife made home made whoopie pies!!

I am hosting Christmas dinner. Doing a glazed ham with this recipe. Done it for about the last 7-8 years and everybody raves about it.

Also trying to convince the better half to let me cook a goose as well. Every time I mention a goose to anybody they seem to think its a bad idea, sometimes even citing that it's dark meat, which doesn't make sense. I love dark meat instead of old dry white meat.
