Gotcha. I got that part now. We have 199 combos out of 1,001 possible combinations and that only the top 3 picks are in the lottery and they pull 1 combo for each of the those picks. Makes sense. Now, one more question. In the John Wall 2010 draft everything held to the order until they got to Pick #6 - which ended up being Golden State (4). The minute they announced that Golden State had fallen to #6 they said Philly (5) and Washington (4) had jumped into the top 3. I understand how they knew Philly had jumped, because they were not in their slot and thus one of the lottery picks. But how did they know the Wizards did as well? Here is the youtube of the draft - Edit - I think I got it. Because they moved back twice spots, two teams had to have jumped and the only two possible were the Wiz and Sixers. Okay, I think I got it. Hahah.

Okay, every year I think I understand the lottery and then I look up the odds and become completely confused again. Why do the Wiz have the best chance to pick 4th (35%)?

Anyone listen to the Bill Simons podcast with Mark Cuban from a few days ago? It was pretty interesting. I was impressed with how much Cuban understands modern basketball and uses metrics and analytics to an advanced level. I obviously knew he was involved, but I didn't know that he was just a stat geek. He thinks long term and understands the new CBA inside and out and how it will change the game in the future. They just seem like they are constantly pushing themselves and technology to find small advantages. Then I think of Ted and Ernie. . . . And I think, are we doing the same here? I have no idea. I don't know anyone who works for the Wizards and I have zero/nada inside knowledge. It just doesn't seem like we are running the same level of organization. Anyhow, just finished listening to it and thought it was pretty interesting.

Same. I have the exact same review/feelings about it. Good, not great. Not sure how I feel about the 1st person stuff, but it wasn't annoying.

This is how I feel right now as well. I don't understand all the draft love. Nothing about this draft has me excited. Vesely is another athletic freak who does not "fit" into an NBA position. Add him to the list, I feel like the Wiz are overflowing with them. I am tired of freak athletes who can't actually play basketball, and I fear Vesely is going to be one of those guys. Singleton has me intrigued. We need defense badly. I loved Buttler so I will be rooting for Mack. But I am not convinced either are anything more than end of the line NBA depth. I pray that I am wrong . . . . . and a lot of the time I am, so who knows.

This might be a stupid question, but why when do some picks "leap" into the top 3? I never really got that. They knew that the Cavs pick would be a top 3 right away. Why?
