  1. The draft never goes exactly as forecast but most of us assumed that the top tier OTs would be picked clean before the Commanders' next pick at 36.  It is what it is.  The good news is that there are some OTs still available, plenty of WRs and CBs.

2nd Round Options - a few will be gone before 36, or selected by other teams at 37-39

    OT - Kinglsley Suamataia

          - Patrick Paul

          - Blake Fisher

          - Kiran Amegadjie

    WR - Adonai Mitchell

           - Keon Coleman

           - Ladd McConkey

           - Troy Franklin

    CB -  Cooper DeJean

          - Kool-Aid McKinstry

          - Kamari Lassiter

          - TJ Tampa

          - Mike Sainristil

Pick 2 out of this list.  I think we will be fine.

I am sorry, but I cannot believe that anyone who knows about our draft plans would say something like this and be happy to share it with the world a couple of hours before the show starts. Especially since we are still keeping it a secret who we are drafting at #2. What's the benefit here?

Of course not.  "A source in Washington" could be me.

Whats frustrating for me personally is that the last three drafts, there have been guys that I've loved and every single one of them turned out to be real good and we didn't end up with any of them.

2021: LOVED Parsons. Obviously he was taken way before us. Really wanted Darrisaw or JOK. We end up with Davis.

2022: LOVED Olave(probably the biggest Olave stan on here). Also really really liked Hamilton. Unfortunately we trade down, pass up on both, and end up with Dotson.

2023: LOVED Porter jr and really really liked Deonte Banks. Also really really liked Gonzalez but didn't actually think he'd be available, and really really liked Darnell Wright but he was taken way before us. We end up with 90 lb beanpole Forbes.

And once again this year there is a guy I really really want and we're gonna pass on him. I hope for our sakes I'm wrong on this one.

Poor talent evaluation and poor coaching is a lethal combination.  We will be better.  There is always the possibility that another player winds up being better than the one we picked. Even so, if our pick winds up being very good then will be fine.

  4. The pundits have knit-picked the QBs to death.  Now they are trying to match up their last-minute projections with the soon-to-be reality.  The top 3 QBs all have the potential to be very good.  I don't care which one is best able to hit the ground running - I want a franchise QB who will be with the team for ten years (so we never pick #2 again).  If Klingsbury is any good, he will develop an offense that matches the skill set of whichever QB is selected.  I'm not going to lie though - JD will give me heartburn if he's tossed around like a ragdoll (RG3 flashbacks).

Well you’ve already paid Armstrong big money to be a starter. I am absolutely fine punting on weaker positions in this class like EDGE and TE until next year and focusing and doubling down on deeper positions like OT, WR and CB instead

Rome wasn't built in a day and OT, WR and CB are all, arguably, "needs" just like EDGE and TE. So, we should take advantage of the quality available at these positions instead of reaching for for EDGE or TE.  Still, I want to be excited about the picks in the first 100 - no more of the "what the heck" or "he must have a plan because I don't see it".

Somewhat ironically given this ^, I’ve been meaning to tell you that recently I’ve been leaning more towards your opinion of going wr in the 2nd and waiting on corner until the 3rd.  I think the corner depth is deeper than I realized (I thought it was mostly slot corners in the 3rd).  I do still think DE is a solid possibility in the 2nd (along with OT), with FS as a wildcard.  Needless to say, I’m loving our options.

I could definitely see landing two receivers, particularly if we trade back from one of our 2nds to gain a late 3rd or 4th.

I would like to get inside Peters' head.  Did he want to move up with the Howell trade instead of taking multiple lower round picks (of equal point value)?  If so, trading down to pick up a 4th might be pointless.  I'd consider it a success if we can find legitimate value players at OT, WR and CB in rounds 2 and 3.  We have five picks - I'll add G and then most any other position.

I do not like the Profootball Network mock (Joshia Caldwell):

    2nd Round

36 - Max Melton CB - OK, but Suamataia OT gets taken at pick 37

40 - Zach Frazier C  - why?  The following players are picked by other teams after pick 40:  Ricky Pearsall WR, Jordan Morgan OT, Ladd McConkey WR, Patrick Paul OT, Cooper Beebe G, Kiran Amegadjie OT. There are a number of CBs that are picked lower in round 2

    3rd Round

67 Adisa Isaac Edge - OK.  We miss out on Ben Sinnott TE, Cade Stover TE, Dominich Puni G, Roman Wilson WR.

78 - Trey Benson RB - NO!!!  Bralen Trice Edge was still available, Mike Sainristil CB, Ja Tavion Sanders TE, Malachi Corley WR, Troy Franklin WR, and plenty of other WRs lower in round 3.

100 Trevin Wallace LB - Hmmm

A trade down from #40 to the mid 50s would net a 3rd round in the mid 80s.  But, the players that are still available at #40 in his mock would be difficult to pass on.  I could get players I want in round 3 simply by using pick 78 on something other than RB. We will know next Friday.

Got to think we’ll make a couple of trades. Can’t see us bypassing the 4th round for example.

Peters will have the flexibility to do what is best.  I'm not concerned about bypassing the 4th round though.  Picks #36 and #40 might net first round talent at some position.  If so, I'm not going to trade down for 2nd round talent + a 4th round talent.  Pick #67 could net 2nd round talent, so again, it's a keeper IMO.  Let's say picks 78 and 100 are legitimate round three.  If I hold onto #78, I'm are more likely to get the particular player who fits need and ranking.

Love the idea of getting 2 quality players at #36 and #40 but we need two bookend OTs.  Thus, the trade for FASHANU if there in the mid 1st.  I don't think Guyton falls to #36 but he'd be more of a project and we need to protect the rook QB.

    2nd:  Jordan Morgan, Arizona, OT

    2nd:  Darius Robinson, Missouri, EDGE

So, you would prefer to pass on Morgan and Robinson to get Fashanu?  I notice you didn't select any WRs in your mock draft. There might be some WRs available at 40 that are as highly rated as Robinson.  It's hard to say who would fit best in their plans since we don't have any idea of the defensive scheme.

Why? Ashburn is about 58 miles from Landover. I don't see that as being an issue at all. I think what plays a bigger issue for the HQ is what incentives does the team get from the State their in.

Why would there be any incentives for a football HQ?  What is the benefit to the State?  Is the franchise HQ bringing thousands of workers and tax revenue? I don't think so.

Local radio seemed to be actively discussing the idea of trading up first half of R1 for an LT. Some of these show producers must spend time on here and take some ideas for show fodder, because Grant and Danny literally had a segment on trading 36 and 40 for 12 or 14 with the Broncos or Saints, which is something I brought up earlier this week in here ...

I wouldn't doubt that they have an assistant scouring the internet for topics of interest to fans.  How else to keep our interest 24/7 for months?  On the draft!!! And, then training camp.  I remember when we didn't turn back to the Redskins (after the Superbowl) until the preseason games began.

That is kind of where I am. He looked very unathletic, but I'm no scout so I figured I was missing something. The kid from Arizona, MacLachlan looks like an interesting day 3 prospect

Just because we need a TE doesn't mean we should draft one.  But, we are fortunate that Peters seems to have an eye for unrecognized TE talent.  Taking a flyer on a TE prospect is okay but even using pick 139 may mean that some other team selects Zac Zinter OG before we get to our next pick at 152.

Kansas City rejected a funding plan to refurbish stadiums for Royals and Chiefs.

Why mention that. At some point, when Josh reaches a deal for a site; he will

want public funding. If the voters get a say, they might just reject it.

Harris owns the land for the old FedEx stadium and the RFK land is already "free".  Public funding will be needed for the surrounding infrastructure and financing of the construction of the stadium.  If DC can figure out a way to get a positive return on its infrastructure and financing investment, then it can make sense to have the stadium in DC. Unfortunately, rogue politicians can derail everything as we saw with Monumental in Virginia. As a fan, I want the stadium in DC.  But, Harris may get a larger return if he redevelops the current stadium site with assistance from Maryland.

Coming from PFF, that says something! :)

Makes me wonder if players are using Carolina as a big payday while they can.

I feel sorry for the Carolina fans but I'm happy that the curse has lifted from this team.

Matt Miller's 2nd round.  I like both picks for us but no way I'd skip over Kool-aid.  Looking at that configuring, I'd trade down if I can add an extra 3rd.

    36. Washington Commanders

    Darius Robinson, DE, Missouri

Washington needs an impact defensive end who can take over games after trading away Montez Sweat and Chase Young at the 2023 trade deadline. At 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, Robinson can rush from the edge or play inside. He had nine sacks in his breakout 2023 season.

    40. Washington Commanders (via CHI)

    Patrick Paul, OT, Houston

Paul has legendary wingspan at 86¼ inches and enough speed at 6-foot-7 and 331 pounds to run a 5.13 in the 40-yard dash. He is raw, but NFL offensive line coaches I've talked to are in love with his tools and want a chance to develop his traits into a high-end starter.

    67. Washington Commanders

    Adisa Isaac, DE, Penn State

Washington needs bodies to replace Montez Sweat and Chase Young. Isaac's first-step quickness and burst pair perfectly with the power of Darius Robinson, who we projected to Washington in Round 2 of this mock draft.

I don't like the idea of selected two DEs with the first three picks (after QB).  Is Patrick Paul OT really worth the #40 pick if he's that raw?  I'd rather go CB because the ones selected after 40 may not be there in a trade down.  For that matter, the WRs might be picked clean.
