Yeah if takes 2 O-lineman AND a RB to block Chase Young......Chase Young isn't the problem, it means the other members of the D-line can't even beat their 1 on 1 matchups.  I think the D-line is really missing Ionnadis.    I'm sorry to say but Allen & Payne have not been the presence in the middle that we all expected they would be.  Both of them have individual good games here and there, and I think overall Payne has had a pretty solid 2020, however, you need a D-line that can collpase the pocket or at least push it backwards because that is what causes the QB to crumble into the pursuit of the pass rushers on the outside.

    ?????? 5 Sacks yesterday.

I’m not trying to poopoo your stance. There IS differences. And for some guys it’s going to be so much different that they are going to struggle a little bit.

But with the quantity of film and the incredible technology that’s available some of this is going to ultimately help scouting as well. Not having to get on a plane saves money and time. Morale will improve as they aren’t away from their families quite as much as they used to be as well.

This is a very positive step in my opinion.

Damn I didn't mean to sound snarky in that post above I was actually deferring to your experience. You have more knowledge being a coach than I have.  You have more expertise than me in this and didn't think you were poo pooing my stance.

Sure, that’s different. But schools film practice so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are sharing some of that film.

That stuff impacts prospects down the road more than it does the current guys. Game film tells a lot of the story.

I know what you’re saying but it’s really not as much of a detriment as many think.

im currently coaching in it. Our season got moved to March. We are allowed to practice 2x/week... but we can have unlimited meetings. We only do 1 or 2 a week. But for offseason work it’s huge. It’s the biggest turn out we’ve ever had for this stuff.

Hmmm, ok have to defer to experience.

It’s actually more free to interview now than ever before. Can do it from your couch. No flight necessary.

Wasn't referring to cost (ie Scout notices someone at practice and talks to him etc.)

Interviews are so easy with technology. That’s wrong.

    It’s just different.

Why I put the as freely. (BTW McClaurin got the Redskins attention during the pro-day they attended for Haskins).

I don’t think the draft is going to be that much of a crapshoot. Most of these teams are playing. Most of these players are playing.

The crapshoot guys are the Trey Lance’s of the world. Dillon Radunz. But there’s not a ton of those guys.

Scouts can't visit, watch practices, interview coaches and players (as freely) etc.

Although Trautman hasn’t exactly set the world alight this season with 3 catches I think, looking back at the nature of that trade by the Saints, all day 3 picks to get back into the 3rd round....how would we view such a trade?

Trade our day 3 picks to move up into the third round again.

    Gives us picks of 1,2,3,3,3

Five picks, likely top 90 in the draft.

Definitely a bad plan to do that in 2021 (see last few posts above and below).

No, we're out of the running for the top pick.  There is talent up and down the first round... Picking 15th still nets you a first round talent if you're capable at evaluation.  The football people wanted Sweat in the first, but Snyder wanted Haskins.  The football people were right and they arguably could have gotten him at 15... and still would have been right.

We have good football people evaluating, and presumably we have a front office and HC who have the power to make the decisions.  There will be a talented player on the board at every pick in the draft.  This group of evaluators have had really good drafts over the last 3 years since Kyle Smith got elevated to the point that he was running the department.  We have been so bad at drafting in the past, that we thought we needed to have no. 1 overall in order to get a quality player.  Good front offices make good decisions.  We don't have Bruce Allen and Vinny Cerato running our draft board anymore.  The talent gap between us picking 5th and 20th is much smaller now.

The point is they can't evaluate properly this year which is why I said this draft is more of a total crap shoot than normal. Better to trade out entirely if not in the top 5 picks. (Example if the pandemic happened a year earlier Burrow would not have have been 1st round pick while Jake Fromm would have been).

Riggo#44 is stating facts.  The total number of wins by each division proves your point.

    NFC:  West-20, South-16, North-15, East-8

    AFC:  North-19, West-16, South-12, East-12

The NFC East's record outside the division is hideous.  Eagles:1-3-1, Team: 0-4, Cowboys: 1-4, Giants: 0-5.  The NFC East is 2-16-1 against the rest of the NFL.  This means that 6 of the 8 wins are within the division.  Yowza!!!!!!

Is winning this division really a positive when it pushes you so far down in the draft from the very best talent?  Respectfully, I don't think so.

We're already out of the running for the best talent. This draft after the first 5 picks will be like playing darts while sky diving (board is falling too). May as well go for the Division title.

  9. After watching the Eagle/Cowboys game I actually think the Redskins are currently the best team in the division. None our rivals are even average in any aspect of the game at this point. I can't see them being able to withstand our defense (it's not great but it's better than average). So I think we go 5-1 in the division (Would have been 6-0 if it wasn't for the -go for 2-coaching mistake) and we take the Division title. (Sorry draft guys that means we'll pick 19).

I just can’t get past drafting another QB and putting him behind this Oline. Any prospect will be running for their life, and ruining their development behind this line. I would rather get Sewell as a life insurance policy for a future QB, maybe a Guard either through draft/FA.
pretty sure Scherff is gone at his price and position.

This kind of plays into my point. If Lawrence or Fields doesn't excel behind that line the Skins will give up on him and move on to plan B (or is it Z?).

Current top prospect (kinda weighting position)

    1. Justin Fields

    2. Trevor Lawrence

    3. Penei Sewell (I think he’s the best player and “generational”)

    4. JaMarr Chase

    5. Micah Parsons

    6.........

Well it is clear the Redskins should pass on a QB in the first. We keep doing the same thing over and over to our drafted QBs - give up on them (almost immediately) and move them out. Why would anyone expect it to be any different with Lawrence or Fields? We should trade for a QB or sign a FA (if there are any suitable candidates) as the grass is always greener in the other yard when it comes to the Redskins and QBs (This goes back decades).

About the only thing as cynical as Moscow Mitch’s power play is the statements from Murkowski and Collins that they don’t support filling the seat until after the election. Translation: Even though we want to support it, we’re in hotly contested election fights so Moscow Mitch gave us permission to oppose this because he’s already got the votes to push it through. It’s as transparent as it is cynical. We really need to turn the Senate over.

Murkowski is not up for reelection this year and she voted against Kavanaugh so I think the Dems can count on a no vote from her.

I wish I felt the same way. Collins, Murkowski, Romney all vote no. Pence breaks the tie. New right wing nutter religious zealot on the bench by Christmas.

But I’m gonna hope you are right. And I hope Mitch’s arrogance costs them the Senate.

Well if Kelly wins he will be seated once the election results are certified.  So only 3 would be needed to vote a nomination down (unless they somehow get a vote prior to 30 November or a Dem crossing lines and voting).

If Dems take the senate they need to add at least 2 SCOTUS justices. There’s really no other option at this point. Republicans will probably try to do the same sometime in the future if they control Congress and the presidency, but that’s something we’ll deal with when we get there.

That would be the bottom of the slope. That would massively increase the power of the President. Every time there is a political shift from one party to the other the court would be increased (Heck I can see presidents increasing the court size even if it was his parties court and it blocks legislation important to him), until eventually there would no longer be political shifts in power.

I was just going to say this. If Biden wins, expand the whole judiciary branch. Fight fire with fire. Expand the SC to 11 justices and fill it with liberal justices. Expand the federal judges from 70 to 100. It's the only way you can fight the other judges Mitch pushed through.

Amazing how many people support this idea as it would be the end of democracy.

I saw a video from 2018 where Lindsay Graham said he would wait until after the election if a vacancy came up after the primaries were over.

These people are all full of it. Amy Barrett is going to be the next SCOTUS justice.

Yep but Graham could still keep to what he said. Trump will still have until first week in January to get a nominee confirmed (20 January if the Republicans keep the Senate).

  16. 3 minutes ago, Mooka said:

In the longer run, a Dem President + Senate could just increase the SCOTUS to 11 or 13 members.

Buttigieg was talking like 17-19 Justices during his campaign.

Which is what I was referring to when I said leading to the destruction of the Judicial branch. (as a Republican Pres and Senate would later increase it again and so on and so on).

Isn't there a fear for them that the democrats could win the election in a landslide and decide to pack the court?

I don't know a lot about this so I'm asking not stating.

But once the precedent has been set by the Republicans that they won't play by standard rules can't the democrats do that?

They could and might which would be the death of the Supreme Court.  Just the worst timing for this to happen imo. Living till January or retiring last year would have been better. She gambled on the former.

Hell, Mitch could ram thru a choice within a week of Trump making a selection.

Does this tip the election back to Donald?

    RIP RBG.

No it will have no effect on the election (Trump is going to lose). However, it does create a situation that could lead to the effective destruction of the Judiciary branch.

That was a political decision (As was the prosecution of the police officer - think about that - that is scary)  they decided not to fight it even though they likely would have won.

    ???

    For this part -

"There was a drive-by shooting in North Braddock around 8:30 p.m. Just 10 minutes later, police stopped a car matching witness descriptions of the silver Chevrolet Cruze used in the drive-by shooting. The police observed bullet holes on the side of the car.[12]

A video recording taken by a bystander shows police ordering the driver to step out from the car.[12] While the driver was being handcuffed, Rose and the third occupant, Zaijuan Hester, ran from the car."

He was suspected of an attempted murder 10 minutes prior and yes they got the right car and he was part of that attempted murder (in other words an active threat to the community).  I just want to point out don't make heroes out of those that were killed with good justification and certainly don't criticize those that refuse to go along with it when you do. There are plenty of examples (plenty) of non justified killings by the police the NFL can use - this wasn't one of them.

  20. NFL player breaks ranks with team on victim they chose to honor. The NFL needs to relook the victims of police shootings that they have on their list to honor. I would have refused to put the name of the guy chosen by the team on my helmet as well (team decision or not).

I wonder if the Broncos would want to trade for Kerrigan now that Von Miller is out for the year. They’re both around the same age and have both mostly played LOLB or LDE their whole careers.

That defensive line takes a severe hit without Von, but Kerrigan coming in can definitely mitigate a bit of the impact of losing their best player.

I would trade him for a 2nd or two 3rds, given the situation Denver is currently in. That would go a long way to helping our rebuild.

As long as they aren't 2021 picks  (after the first few picks that draft becomes a total crapshoot).
