  1. This is a card that I want see top to bottom. I almost hope they are all first rounders so I can see them all. Here are my picks: Couture vs. Gonzaga: Coutre will fight too smart a fight to lose. He will take this fight into the later rounds and earn a TKO. Gonzaga needs to beat more than one good fighter for me to think he can beat Randy. But maybe I'm wrong. They all start somewhere. Georges St. Piere vs. Kos: Kos is overconfident. He couldn't finish an extremely depleted staph infected Diego Sanchez. He is going to get schooled by GSP. Huerta vs. Crane: Huerta Huerta fights another guy that isn;t in his league and will win again Stevenson vs. Pellegrino: Stevenson is a stud. The only challenges I see for him are from the elite. Pellegrino isn't elite. Stevenson will win. Grove vs. Cote: Cote might have the advantage in boxing over Groves, but Groves is better with his elbows, knees, feet, and on the ground. Groves gets the sub in round 2 Leites vs. Jensen: Leites I don't kno wmuch about Jensen. I know Lietes is pretty good. Lietes wins this. Sobral vs. Heath: I've always been a Babalu fan. With that said he looked terrible against an average Jason Lambert. As a fan I'm expecting a big bounce back fight for Babalu and a first round submission victory. Heath is a good fighter though and I'd hate to say that I won't be that suprised to see Heath win. I just hope that the old Babalu shows up. Babalu by sub Mir vs. Hardonk: Hardonk Huge fight for Mir. He losses here he is gone for a while. Probably to the WEC. I hate to see a career go so downhill after an accident. Hardonk can knock Mir out in the first fairly easily if the wrong Mir shows up, but I think he'll be fighting for his career and will get a first round sub Guida vs. Aureilo: Guida is always in a good fight. This will be no different. The guy fights with so much intensity it is hard to see him get subbed, but if anyone can do it it is Aureilo. This is a toss up for me. I'm going with Guida by 3rd round stoppage.
  2. I hate Kosckek, but I think I hate Hughes more, so I loved this: http://ufcmania.com/2007/08/20/in-it-to-win-it-exclusive-ufcmania-interview-with-josh-koscheck/ UFCmania: Matt Hughes recently had a prediction on your upcoming fight and some choice words about Josh Koscheck (I read him this line). Thoughts? Josh Koscheck: Matt Hughes is on drugs, man. I’ll probably kick Matt Hughes in the neck (more on Hughes later). UFCmania: If you could only fight one more time — forever — and you could fight anybody in the world of MMA, past or present, who would you like to fight? Josh Koscheck: I’d like to shut Matt Hughes up. Now you’ve got me thinking about him (laughs). I mean me and Hughes have been cool but he’s always been arrogant and ****y. People who think I’m arrogant and ****y have to look at Matt Hughes — he’s ten times worse. UFCmania: Would that fight turn into a wrestling match? Josh Koscheck: Not at all. It would be me picking him apart, punching and kicking him whenever I want. He can’t take me down, come on. What was he, a one-time All American? And if we did wrestle I’d beat him by 15 points, easy.
  3. Except when he was a guest caoch on TUF a few years ago. He didn't help the guys at all because he thought he was going to have to fight one of them. And of course there was the classic advice he gave to Serra "as soon as the bell rings take a kneww so he can't kick you".
  4. You're going to have to wait a very long time to see Drew fight again: http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/08/14/report-drew-mcfedries-out-six-to-eight-months/ Miletich Fighting Systems’ Drew McFedries will be out of action for six to eight months following a nasty staph infection that’s wreaked havoc on one of his legs. ---- It says the infection grew to the size of a football.
  5. I think it is from dirty mats. I wouldn't think this was possible at a gym like MFS. Good thing it wasn't Hughes right before the title fight.
  6. Every place that teaches BJJ will offer you at least the first class for free. Some will give you a week or more for free. At least check out one class if you're interested. You don't even have to look for the best one. Just take the first free class you can attend; go from there. Or you can look for a place that teaches "MMA" as a separate class. I've taken a couple of those. They do striking, takedowns, and submissions. I think my favorite thing to watch is elite submission grappling. That said, I'd take a C- striking match over a B submission match.
  7. Fired? You're crazy. And so should Shawn Merriman Franca admitted he took them to help him heal in time to fight. It was the only way a training injury would heal in time for him not to pull out of the fight. That is exactly would steroids by doctor's prescription are designed to do. Steroids can be a wonderful drug if taken correctly. I don;t think we can hold steroids for the purpose of healing quickly against athletes anymore than we should hold Ben-Gay or ice packs against them. Not to mention the cortisone shots. Sherk said he didn't know he took it. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Let's see how the appeal goes before we fire him. Gomi is no longer an elite LW. Not top 5. He hasn't been fighting the top of the heap. He got his ass kicked by Diaz, pot or no pot. I would take Stevenson, Florian, Franca, and Fisher against him. Maybe even Guida or Griffin in a cage. Huerta would even give him a run for his money. And BJ has already destroyed him once. The fight wouldn't make sense for BJ The Great (he rececntly said he wanted a new nickname. I'll try to start this one). I would love to see a LW GP for the vacant title. Imagine all the guys I just mentioned with some more Pride guys like Aoki and Hansen. That would be incredible. But it will never happen. So I think BJ The Great should go back to 170 and dominate for a while, and I don;t know what they could do with the LW title if Sherk's appeal doesn't go his way. Sherk won it while vacant on his his fight in the division against a guy was 4-2 with the biggest win being against Sam Stout. I don't how how much credibility they could draw up for another one-shot match for a vacant title. I think they have to do some sort of tournament to maintain respect for the title. Even if it means just a four-man bracket.
  8. Thanks for the link from a former Storm Trooper.
  9. Just read that the game is probably a year and a half away. Looks like I'll be sticking to Fifa for a while longer. I have a problem with unification bouts. Pride fights in a ring (and use to have different rules). Hendo shouldn't lose that belt to Rampage in a cage. It would be cool if the loser's belt was vacate, and there was a tournament for it.
  10. OMG! The new UFC video game looks awesome! http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/876/876981/vids_1.html
  11. So when Anderson Silva knocks Rich Franklin out again, do you think Franklin will go up to 205 where he probably really belongs? What else would he do at 185 having lost to the champ twice?
  12. The first 3 fights went the distance with one of those going 5 rounds. If a couple of those ended eraly they would have put the Florian match before the main event, but if that fight went the distance they wouldn't have had time for the main event, so it gets bumped until after if there is time. Ironically Marquartd has been in a few swing bouts that never make it to air which is why he has only been on tv a couple times.
  13. I think he is too small for LHW. Florian's fight is what they call a "swing bout". It is a fight they anticipate having time to air before the main event, but if everything is running long, comes on after the main event.
  14. Link to main event: http://www.dailymotion.com/Sebowski/video/4184667
  15. I saw that article but didn't click on it thinking it would be just recap. You would think that announcement would garner its own headline. I think Sherk might have trouble taking BJ down. I'm sure that Sherk will cause no damage to BJ. He might be able to lay on him enough to win the judges favor, but I think BJ is too skilled for him.
  16. Yeah, I saw Nate go down and and start to turn away, I just couldn't tell how hurt he was. I also remember seeing him wince when the first shot on his back happened. I didn't see him go limp or his eyes roll back. When the doctors were looking at him I couldn't tell if he was pissed off because he got caught or pissed off at the stoppage.
  17. I agree on all counts. Especially the last one. I think a lot of refs would have stopped that fight, so I am glad we had that one. Comebacks after flash knockouts are classic. I still haven't seen a replay of Silva knocking out Nate. I don't know if I missed it, or they just didn't show it after the fight. Was it a good stoppage?
  18. If I never saw Sherk fight again I would not be sad. He never tries to finish a fight. He puts himself in great position only to lay there and then switch to another position so the ref doesn't stand him up. I think I over estimated Rashad. How did he think he won the fight? What is he doing with all that energy after the fight when he didn't do anything until the last 90 seconds? Props to Kenny for calling out fighters who aren't looking to finish.
  19. I like both these fighters, but I don't like the fight. Diego needs to show people he is still the same fighter before the Koschek fight, not the one that fought with a staph infection against Koscheck. BJ should only be fighting the elite.
  20. mmaweekly.com (their rankings in parenthesis) Main Card Bouts: -Anderson Silva (#2 Middleweight in the World)* vs. Nathan Marquardt (#7 Middleweight in the World)* -Marquardt will try to get this to the ground quickly. Silva is very underrated on the ground. SIlva will be able to get it back to the feet if it goes to the mat and he will eventually knock Nathan out. -Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (#2 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Heath Herring -same as other two times they've fought. Nog by submission. I really don't understand why this fight was made. We've seen it twice. Nothing to gain here. Would have much rather seen both these guys against other fighters. -Tito Ortiz (#9 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Rashad Evans -I think Rashad is a better wrestker and a better striker. Rashad by knockout. I just read tnat this is Tito's last fight on his contract, and I can very easily see him leaving the UFC after this. It would be great to see him vs. Frank Shamrock again. You know that Tito would love to have that. -Sean Sherk (#10 Lightweight in the World)* vs. Hermes Franca -I love Franca. I hope he can catch one of Shrek's stubby limbs and submit him. I think he will. Hermes by submission. -Kenny Florian vs. Alvin Robinson - I don;t know Robinson, so Kenny by submission.
  21. I stopped watching a little over a year ago after 10 years over hardly missing a show. Benoit was always one of my favorites. This is crazy. I don't even know what to say.
  22. Not reading this thread until I see last night's fights. I am having trouble finding them online. If anyone knows a place please PM me. Thanks.
  23. I'm picking: Baroni by TKO. His boxing is too good for Frank. Buentello by KO. I always bet on Buentello. One of the most underrated fighters out there. Villasenor by KO. I'm not a big Ninja fan. I like Villasenor a lot. The whole card looks very good. I'll be working during the fights, but will be sure to download later. Wish I could watch it live.
  24. Thanks. My other website seems to be down. This is working great.
