  1. here's the almost-finished project. 7 days dry time, and i'm painting some fish and other stuff in the shallow end (courtesy of my artist wife...i'm just the tracer. call me binky.)
  2. the 70th were garbage. these are great. i've been clamoring for this look for a while. http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2763356#post2763356
  3. yeah, i'd never be able to afford to put a pool in. it was here when we bought the house. acid etching isn't that bad. it's just that muriatic acid is very dangerous, so you have to be careful. just make sure you get an acid brush from the paint store. muriatic acid will eat a regular brush. follow the directions, and don't get it on you. wear gloves, long sleeves, pants and goggles.
  4. i'm getting a very late start on the pool this year, for a few reasons. first, i've been working on other projects, but i have also been procrastinating. the reason for the latter is that my pool is about 2 or 3 years overdue for a paint job. well, last season i determined that this would be the spring to paint it. since i would have to drain it, and clean it anyway, i decided to skip closing the pool down properly, i.e. thorough clean, chemicals, etc. just drained the lines, plugged them up and put the cover on. what a mistake!!! this is what i saw when i took the cover off: i drained it completely, pressure washed it, then etched the concrete with acid. after about 7 hours of work, 30+ gallons of ****-smelling algae sludge, this is what i've got: i will start painting this afternoon. if the rain holds off, i'll finish tomorrow.
  5. anywhere. my last bottle was from wal mart.
  6. be sure to NOT over-fertilize though. mine is done in spring and fall, then lime applied in late fall.
  7. weed-b-gone. won't kill the grass. but it'll take two applications to kill clover.
  8. if you have areas that get some shade, bleeding hearts and the wv state flower, the rhododendron are beautiful.
  9. 2-step is best. not NECESSARY on new wood, but still better than translucent. 2-step is a must for renovating. the first time you put it on, it'll last 2-3 years. during the 3rd year, re-do it using the same product, and it should last 5 years. they say the 3rd time you do it, it should last about 8 years.
  10. better durability, washability and overall quality. but the more i think about it, for bathroom paint, i'd go with sherwin williams durations....it's the most washable paint i've ever seen. i'm not much of a color guy. i'd go earthy, but not dark.
  11. i prefer benjamin moore. my summer painting partner (who paints year round), prefers sherwin williams. behr is a GREAT value. as far as deck stain, cwfuv is one that we use, but if you've got the money, nothing beats sikkens
  12. you're better off going with 1a. benjamin moore 1b. sherwin williams 2. behr (home depot) any of those three can match any color that you have picked out.
  13. we used unsanded grout on the walls in our bathroom. my wife wanted to do this artsy thing she saw on trading spaces.
  14. Very true....and make sure it's sanded grout.
  15. here is my weekend.....actually, the excavation took place the weekend before this past one. then last friday, we laid 3 tons of crusher gravel and one ton of sand, then 700 some odd pavers. here ya' go: here's the excavation, w/ lil' dude helpin' out: after the crusher run: and the finished product: (still got some things to touch up/ clean up)
  16. some billy goat must be desperate. brown-nose the mods thread in the stadium.
  17. zoony, where does the hate of pressure washers come from? i know i'm not taking a scrub brush to the 250 sq. ft. patio i just built. the pressure washer will make it's first appearance of the season.
  18. we are completely renovating a back porch that was converted into finished living space before we bought the house. i took out the window of the redskins room that leads to the porch and installed french doors. we are taking up the carpet and putting vinyl down. i spent a large part of the last week or so installing a paver patio in the back yard, around our brick grill. my next big project will be a split rail fence. our house was built in 1952. since we bought it in '03, we have, in addition to the above, painted every room, ripped up almost all the carpet since the floors are hardwood, replaced all the windows, installed a new heating/ ac system (that was contracted), updated the electricity in the kitchen, renovated the bathroom. i have a guy that takes care of the lawn as far as fertilizer, lime, weed kill.
  19. wvu football thread in the ncaa forum, discussing the top ncaa qb's for the upcoming season.
