But you forgot to mention that your light fixtures are all about to go out/break in the next 12-18 months and you need to think long term. Allen's deal expires after December '25, and is a tradable asset, Paynes in December '26. Neither is young, either. Both are well into their second contracts as vets as well, not young, and about to exit their primes within a season or two. If you need everything, and the need at DT, which is amongst the hardest and most valuable to fill in terms of draft capital and FA cost (it sits right along Edge, CB, OT, QB and WR). Basically we got a top 15 to 20 player, for 2nd round draft capital. This isn't the Raiders drafting Bowers a year after they drafted Mayer. This is us finding a long term replacement for Allen or Payne in the discount bin, knowing it should be on the show room floor.

It's frustrating it wasn't a shiny top 20 rated OT, I agree, but they weren't there and the fact that no OT's were selected between the late first and the late second illustrates that. The first run on OT's went from 5th to 26th (with one more taken after Dallas moved down to 29), the next from 55 to 79, and we pulled one right out of that tier with similar rankings. So to my mind anyway, we basically owned the board, holding off on OT, convinced they would fall, and were proven right, while selecting the best player on our board. That's exactly how I want drafts run. We need everything, yes DT was my exception too, but its not hard seeing the reasoning when you consult spotrac.

If both Allen and Payne have good years and Newton plays well; I can see us trading Allen or Payne.  It will be cheaper and maybe we can get at least a 2nd rounder, maybe even first.

I am not convinced that Jamin Davis makes this roster.

    He might for 2024 anyway.

We already have a 60% roster turnover. I expect more as some of the holdovers won’t make out of training camp. Then even some more won’t perform this season and will be gone next offseason.

The season finale is always a divisional game. And I actually think the Bears will be good this year now that they have a real QB and some legit weapons around him. D improved big time with Sweat too. They're my sleeper to win the division.

    .  Remember Bears went 7-10

last year.  They just needed a qb. Nfc North will be interesting but the Bears could make wild card and nfc north could send 3 teams to playoffs.

    Bears- Commanders in October.

  4. The o-line will limit what this team can do this year. It’s not a playoff year though the ceiling is 8-9, based on JD alone.

Actually making the playoffs this year doesn’t help much. Another year of drafting in the lower half of Top 10 will benefit us.

I expect 2025 to be the highest we draft for a long time.

When you take over a team  that's got a lot of talented players with losing attitudes you work on the attitudes and try to rebuild the players.

When you take over a team with players with poor talent  and great attitudes you try to see if you can find a place for some of them until you can replace them with more talented players.

But when you take over a team filled with poor talent AND a losers mentality-- you clean house and bring in as many new players as you can from any and all available sources.

    .

The purging isn’t over. Some of the holdovers won’t make it past training camp and some will fail to perform this season and get cut next offseason.

Doesn't matter to us, but don't agree about Penix.  That was a good pick IMO and they had the QBs rated appropriately.

They said today they are willing to

let him sit 4-5 years.  You don’t waste a Top 10 first round pick like that.

Cousins is gauranteed 100 million for 2 years but in 2026 Atlanta needs to move on and start Pennix.  The Raiders though should offer Atlanta picks for Cousins.

If the league wants the NFLPA to agree to an 18-game schedule, they might have to expand the rosters. That would theoretically lead back to expanded draft. It used to be 13 rounds, if I recall correctly. They don't have to televise all of it!

It was I think as high as 18 at one point.

Players would want an expanded roster but they prefer free agency more.

So my overall thoughts so far:

    Our picks:

Daniels: Big upside, small frame. His biggest obstacle will be a stiff wind. But this guy can play.

JZNewt: Absolute stud. I think we will employ a 7-1-3 defense

Sainistril: Love the player. Bit of a logjam at the nickel spot with inSain, Quan, Davis. Not much on the outside. BPA is BPA. He's short. But he's a hell of a football player. I have retired the term ballhawk after Forbes.

Sinnott: Just a whole lot of yes. He's our Juczchyk or however you spell the H from SF's name. Except he's also a true Y. 100% yes. May be my favorite pick.

Coleman: Shouldn't be a starter for us... but given this team's tackle situation... He may actually start for us. Promising prospect in a good spot in the draft. We'll see.

McCaffrey: @Jumbo said, "A New Hope" last night in the draft thread, which I didn't laugh react to because I was half asleep. But young Skywalker is going to be a major help to our receiving corps.

    Overall Thoughts on the Class

We've helped Daniels in many ways. I have really apprehensive about our OL. Our LT is below average and our RT is essentially an open space on the field. We'll see how LG pans out. C and RG are all set. You can't force picks, though. So I'm glad we didn't reach on these guys.

    What I Hated:

No one will ever convince me that trading Dejean, one of the top corners and the best returnman in the draft (the new special teams rules are going to put a MAJOR emphasis on the return game. It won't be all touchbacks anymore. There are going to be more returns, which means more need for an explosive returner) was a good play. I know what we got. And I like the players we got. But trading with Philadelphia and giving them Dejean is a move that I absolutely despise.

I also hate that Beebe is in Dallas. Not going to be a good situation for us. He will likely start day one for them at LG.

    Today:

I think we can go any direction. It's clear we're going BPA.

    Some interesting names:

Christian Jones, OT, Texas - He has tremendous upside and athletic for a big man. But he's "just" 305 and needs some development.

    Mohamed Kamara, DE, Colorado St

Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon - I actually think he is one of the better receiving prospects in the draft. 4.41 speed but moves smoothly through his patterns and was reliable as all hell.

TJ Tampa, CB, Iowa State - He's not my favorite player, I know others were really high on him though. And at this point I think he's just as good of a guess as any other player we could select. And we desperately need help at outside corner and he fits in the BPA mold.

Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina - Oh ****. Yes. I put Rattler. I like Rattler. He definitely has a lot to work on from a consistency basis. But... I really, really don't like Marcus Mariota. So even if we have to keep him for the year, I wouldn't be upset with a plan to start JD, Mariota is the backup and develop Rattler from a mechanical perspective and then next year move on from Mariota. This isn't likely. But I'd like it. And no - this wouldn't be to challenge JD5. He's the QB.

Will Shipley, RB, Clemson - Others were higher on him than I was, but we're creeping into value territory.

Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia - Only downside here is he is a pure center.

Jeremiah Trotter, LB, Clemson - Another guy I didn't love when I watched as a high end prospect. But I like him a lot more down here. He flashes, so he needs to be more consistent but again: this is the range.

Cade Stover, TE, Ohio State - Raw, but this guy can do it all. I'd take him as a pure Y without any hesitation. Ertz won't be here long.

Cedric Gray, LB, North Carolina - I like him better than Trotter. Not sure his ceiling is as high, but I think his growth potential is higher. (IE I don't think Trotter hits his ceiling, Gray may).

Audric Estime, RB, Notre Dame & Braelen Allen, RB, Wisconsin - We have BRob, CRob and Ekeler. But... these dudes are straight war horses. I'd take them on my team in a heartbeat.

I think Spencer gets taken in round 4.

Las Vegas, Dallas, New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams seems like the teams that could draft him.

A couple of questions for anyone that can answer them:

I know that we have a minicamp starting on May 14th. Will that be for the entire team, or just the rookies?

Also, there used to be a rule which allowed an extra optional minicamp for teams with a new head coach. Is that still in effect, and if so, are we taking advantage of it?

Think this one is the voluntary extra minicamp that new coaches are allowed; so it’s open to all players.

The mandatory minicamp is in June.

I mean Im pretty sure we had the most picks going into it and made a great value trade with Philly. All the picks are real good players, no head scratchers like im years past(Newton doesnt fill an immediate need but talent wise hes a 1st round caliber player).

Newton is a future starter and eventual replacement for Allen or Payne. When they are up for next contract; we probably won’t resign them.

You guys know some of the teams that drafted OL earlier might cut some vets, right? We could grab one of them as a placeholder until we find a better answer next off-season.

I think some of you forgot just how much we stunk and how many holes were on the roster.

We hired AP to address this, have juuuust a little faith that he knows what he's doing.

Going take 3 years to rebuild the roster completely.

Don't want it to happen but don't be surprised if we trade our pick at #67 to get more picks.

Trade down. Would love to have 3 third rounders again and pick up a 4th.
