Actually, I think he will. There are some really bad QBs out there. And while many here have an extreme hatred for the guy, many teams would be glad to have him as a back-up. It would be a pretty big upgrade. Of course, that's not saying much for their QB situation, but still.

 

Unfortunately, I don't think we will get a chance to find out. I am almost certain he makes the 53 man roster. He may be inactive game days like most of last years games, but he will be on the team.

 

That's what i think will happen. As for what I want to happen, I actually agree with you. Cut them both and hope at least one is there if you need them.

 

On another note, what do you think about the idea of keeping a kickoff specialist? I don't like it. I think Forbath can get it deep enough. Our KO coverage was pretty decent even with his shorter than most KOs. But there are rumblings they might use a slot for a PO specialist.

I WOULD HAVE TO RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE lol, as bad as you think the QB play around the league is, REX IS WORSE!  They got him on deck for just 1 interception but if you check the tape, you'll find 3 other passes that literallly hit the defender in the hands.  Look rex is what he is, a 2 turnover per game QB.  In addition to that, he hangs his recievers to dry which often leads to injury.  Not to mention that he's quick to point the finger at his teammates.  I have not forgotten rex (RG3 ain't that good lol), I vivdly remember the type of BUM he is!! 

 

So here is how I do the math, 3 x 32 says that Rex is NOT better than the other possible 96 QB's that may be on rosters this year. It's that simple gentleman.  Besides, Pat White IMO never got a fair chance to win a QB job in his career, why not here??

Regarding Rex, if a team recently signed Vince Young then I'm certain a Team will sign Rex, Heck even Steve Carr still has a spot in the NFL.

The NFL would allow a shirt stating "I Eat Children" as long as there is a Nike Logo with it

"IF" RG3 is cleared to start, and "IF" Cousins shows no ill effects from his injury, and "IF" None of the guys I think need more time in the system who would not clear waivers for the PS get hurt (placed on IR), then I would run the risk of having only 2 QB's on the 53 man roster. Do will really require insurance for our insurance? Just ask yourself this question, "Would you want to face Grossman in a Cowboy or Giant uniform later this year or a guy like Lewis, Dawson, Nixon, Thompson, or Jamison?" Remember, it was a few nice punter returns that cleared the way for us to make the play-offs last year, I sure wouldn't want to have the tables turned on us. I just don't see letting a guy go that can help us long term for a 3rd string QB that no one wanted to sign but us, that we can bring back anytime we want. My hope is that one of these guys has a break out game Saturday to make it very hard for the GM to let him walk.

Hail 28 - I just disagree. I know people hate rex. I am not a fan. But he has been a starting QB. He has experience that most 3rd stringers don't have. Also, with the talent that we have in other areas, I disagree the season is lost if RGIII and Cousins go down. rex at least gives us a chance to win, albeit not nearly as good a one.

 

Let's see what the coaches do. I will make you a friendly wager (bragging rights only) that we keep 3 QBs and rex is one of them.

@ dreday - No one forgets how bad he is. When we signed him I sent an email to danny (I doubt he ever read it) and told him i was could not believe we would sign this idiot. The only other time I wrote to danny directly is when we signed Jeff George, the big cry baby.

 

We have hashed this over an over and I get that you have your opinion, but there is a mountain of data that says he is not as bad as you make him out to be. He irritates me to no end when he throws his picks, but he can move the ball and he had a horrible team around him.

 

No one is saying he should be the #1 and even the #2. I am not saying I would keep him. I am just saying the coaches will and why. We will see in a few weeks. I actually hope you guys are right. I am ready for rex to hit the dusty trail too.

I got a good chance to see Jose Gumbs Monday and was impressed, I will say that doughty had a nice special teams play but Gumbs did well too! I hope Pat white gets most of the playing time along RB's Jamison and Thompson. We all know what rex can and WILL do, if they give him the bulk of the playing time we (FANS) know what the deal is lol.

well there is a plan for both white and rex ,with the pistol/read option working so well and rex knows whats going on we might have to find a way to keep him .white looks like a lefthanded biet leesser clone of RG3 we may have find a way to keep him  .

white is young enough to play different positions rb,wr .but i havent heard of him practicing there

First let me say that it is wonderful having a debate in here based on football, Redskins football, and the concerns of trying to find the best 53 guys plus 8 more for the PS. Fans making good points about the skill levels of Redskins roster members without getting worked up to the point of name calling. I really hope it stays that way. Now let me ask a question, What if Morris go's down? It wasn't long ago we used 8 or 9 guys at RB in one year. While Helu can carry the back up role and spot start, do we need Royster plus another guy or maybe 2 guys on the PS at RB? Should we be more concern with RB right now than QB when listing the 53 man roster? Will Morris be a Riggings type (never hurt) or a Bo Jackson type (poster boy for band aid). My point is that if you are going to make roster pick based on injury insurance, isn't RB our next highest asset? Your input is Welcome as I am not 100% sure myself, as an old coach, I want to protect and plan for everything.

Using my own logic you point makes sense. Pat White still has Up Side, can run the read option, makes for a better practice QB for Philly, San Fran etc. but has he shown he earned a spot or can he show that in the next few games? As for Grossman, I will say he looks better this year in camp than in years past. Maybe I should wait until after the preseason games to pass judgement of his value.

Who'd have though 4-5 years ago that we could be having this type of discussion? Last year coaches had tough decisions on the final roster(remember Keil got cut) and this year,whew, even tougher.

So, from what I understand the Bills have been running a no huddle offense in the preseason. EJ Manuel will not play so I hope their other qbs can run it so our defense has a early look at what the Eagles do. This could give us good film on our players even though the starters on defense will only play a couple of series or 20 plays.

Well TE J Reed is just like a Pat White so why use the roster spot beings we have so many young kids who could help our team win for years to come? can you say that about Pat White?

Ken great point on RB, Shanny has been known to go through 4-6 backs in a season and I for one can't trust Helu to stay healthy and we shouldn't lean on AM like last season if we want him for years to come.
