Tom [Giants fan]
Can they give a first round compensation pick?
TheDane
Tom... If the Eagles can get thirty compensatory picks per draft, we should be awarded at least one for this offseason.
atloldskin
I never understood the compensatory pick thing, other than a way to help replenish teams that lost in FA. Is it arbitrary or do they have rules on determining the pick?
rdavis2005
The highest pick that can be awarded is at the end of the 3rd round. And we will only get a compensatory pick if we don't sign a FA like Dyson to replace Smoot or someone like Hartwell to replace Pierce.

GangstaSkinz
Draft Experts, is this true could we end up getting a few extra mid round draft picks?? That would definatley help add some depth.
Craigerson
http://www.theredzone.org/2005/freeagents/defintions.asp COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS: Compensation awarded by the league to teams who lost more UFAs than they signed. Compensation is in the form of extra draft picks added to the end of rounds three through seven. The quantity of picks is equivalent to the difference of UFAs signed to UFAs lost. For example, if a team loses 4 UFAs and signs 1 UFA, they will receive three Compensatory Selections. The value of the picks is determined by the difference of the contracts signed by the players lost and those acquired. The highest possible compensatory pick is the 31st of the third round (91st overall). If a team has signed an equal number or more UFAs than it lost, no "Compensatory Picks" are awarded
Pocono
So far you lost Pierce and Smoot but signed Rabach and Patten. If you don't sign anyone else the Skins might get a 7th rd pick because the players you lost were paid more than the players you gained.
RockyMountainHog
Doesn't matter... We will find some way to waste it getting burned in a trade.
TheDane
Apparently, since we've signed Patten and Rabach, but lost Pierce and Smoot, the rules as written will prohibit us from getting a mid-round pick. Provided Pat Dennis and Kozlowski don't sign elsewhere. If they do, I presume we may get an extra 6th or 7th rounder.

Pocono
No one outside of the NFL has ever seen the formula but that blurb from the Red Zone is wrong in that teams have received a pick when a player lost is a much better player than the player gained. Mister Happy
I think this is everybody: Gained Ethan Albright Cedric Killings David Patten Casey Rabach Joe Salave'a Mike Sellers Lost Fred Baxter Ray Brown Pat Dennis Jason Doering Kenyatta Jones Brian Kozlowski Antonio Pierce Fred Smoot EDIT: I should point out that not all the FAs are necessarily covered by the rule. Cut players, and re-signed players don't count. Also any player that signs after a certain date (july or august I believe) doesn't count. Gained Casey Rabach David Patten lost Fred Smoot Antonio Pierce Right now it's 2 to 2, so you guys may get a 7th or possibly a 6th b/c pierce and smoot signed for more. Tom [Giants fan]
Yes HeHateMe. I would have thought the people on here would have known that this would be a sarcastic post. I know the third round is where the comp picks start. I was trying to lighten the mood.
TheDane
Yeah, we knew it was sarcastic. At least some of us did... it just de-evolved into a discussion around compensatory picks. :whoknows: Bad timing is all. I think we were a little shell shocked. Pocono
I know Tom was joking. I mean get real when would any Giant fan be capable of making a serious point that the more evolved Skins and Eagles fans would be interested in???? There's a Cowboy fan named AdamJT13 who is also registed here who predicts the compensatory picks every year and is pretty good at it. So here's the link for the 05 draft predictions. http://www.kffl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116792 And here are his predictions. Yo man, if you want to ***** and moan about everything that is done then why don't you take yourself up 95 North and go root for them. Since everyone and their grandmothers seem to think they're doing everything right. I'm tired of the negativity by some fans. It gets old after a while. If you don't like what our team is doing there are 30 other teams to root for in the NFL. Go jump on their bandwagon.
