Isportsweb: Redskins Fan Card Movement; One Year Later

It was one year ago that the fans of Redskin Nation declared in one loud voice ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Through an idea that was born on extremeskins.com, Redskins’ fans decided to symbolically turn in their fan cards. Redskins’ fans were increasingly frustrated with everything from the constant losing, the lack of direction of the team, the overall incompetence of Washington management and even the game day experience. The idea was not to spend any more money on the team until competent people were hired to run the team and most importantly have VP of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato basically “kick rocks”. The idea picked up on facebook and there was even local TV coverage on this in the DC area.

So being that this is election time, let’s ask, “Are the Redskins better off this year than they were last year?” Well, first and foremost Cerrato resigned or was fired…regardless he’s gone. Bruce Allen, son of late Redskin coach George Allen, was hired as the Redskins GM. Allen fired second year head coach Jim Zorn and hired Mike Shanahan. I even had a Cowboys fan tell me they wanted Shanahan, well…people in hell want ice water. Tough luck, Cowboy fans. Anyway, finally hiring a GM and a head football coach, who has won Super Bowls and was not too far removed from the game, was a first good step.
