Theme Song For The Next James Bond Movie

Yeesh. "Another Way To Die," the Jack White/Alicia Keys duet for November's "Quantum of Solace," is a mess.

The Chris Cornell theme really grew on me after a few rounds, but this one ...didn't. It's not the worst Bond theme ever. Madonna's was worse, for instance. But it's not near the top, that's for sure.

I remain optimistic that the quality of the theme song will have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the quality of the film itself. And they can always drop into the real 007 theme whenever they want to.

I have enjoyed seeing Bond flicks over the years and consider myself somethng of a Bond historian. I've watched it change over the years and most of it has been good or needed. Connery was the original of course - Lazenby was a temporary setback. Moore did ok and added some humor to the mix. Dalton did ok, but lacked any humor. Brosnan brought it back rather well.

When Albert Broccoli died, I was hoping his daughter would keep things going in the right direction. But she didn't and getting rid of Brosnan for Craig was a huge blunder and now we have garbage like this song. Ugh.

Whaaaa? Really? I think the Bond films now are infinitely better now. It's not as "campy" is the only word I can describe the previous Bond films with Brosnan.

I understand why you feel that way, but this is a series that has been going on for forty-six years. There are certain nuances that Ian Fleming had in mind for James Bond. While some change is needed along the way, getting away (entirely) from that Sidney Reilly mindset that Mr. Fleming wrote about is not a good idea.

While Brosnan was perhaps the "Bondiest" looking Bond since Connery, "Die Another Day" was one of the very worst Bond movies ever made. It was just beyond horrible in so many ways. For some reason, the Bond folks thought they had to make the jump from envelope pushing gee-wizardry to straight-up magic like invisible cars and tsunami surfing. What a disgrace. That was not the right direction.

After that debacle, there was no going back. The reboot was the merciful thing to do -- and a trendsetting decision, as it turned out.

So Brosnan had to be out. That was the price they paid for "Die Another Day."

"Casino Royale" was one of the very best Bond movies ever made. Just incredible.
