Groom could punt this year and when Tupa is healthy we can just waive him from IR and at this point anyone who knows the CBA can answer this. If Tupa was waived from IR and became a free agent could we re-sign him? If I remember correctly once a player goes on IR they can be waived and play that season... However they cannot play for the team that waived them. Otherwise you could use it as a way to hide players until you needed them. Once you pay them an injury settlement they are a free agent and I don't believe have to clear waivers thus signing with anyone they want to. It was a few years back and a player was on IR who wanted to do this. I think the Skins even tried and found out he could not play for them.
